Garrison
Dallas must not of thought they could have re-signed Ryder. That came out of left field.

DownUndaCanuck
Dallas got ripped on this one, and they threw in a 3rd rounder too. Last season both players had almost identical stats but Ryder is playing great this season (almost a point per player) and Cole is barely 0.5 PPG. So Dallas trade away a better player and give up a pick for a worse forward. After Cole made those CBA comments I wasn't surprised Montreal would move him, and the fans will be happier too now. Top of the Conference and they get a better player, look out.

Tangelos
Booth could be packaged in a bigger deal and get us more than a 32 year old pending UFA.
DeNiro
We got Booth for Samuelson and Sturm. How has his value increased since then?
Tangelos
Florida had to get salary off the books. Any knowledgeable hockey fan knows we won that trade. His value hasn't increased, but it is still worth more than what we got him for.
DeNiro
If he's worth something more than what we got him for then someone else would have given more. Economics 101.

Tangelos
Nope. Hockey doesn't follow the rule of economics. Tallon was looking for two players that were off the books at the end of the year. And he wanted two veteran wingers to fill in some gaps. Vancouver had what he was looking for. It's not always about the "best" deal, it's about the right fit, and pretty much who you wanna do a deal with.
DeNiro
I understand what Tallon wanted, but a player is only worth as much as the buyer is willing to pay. No other team offered better than Samuelsson and Sturm, so no other team thought Booth was worth more than Samuelsson and Sturm.
Tangelos
Value is subjective. You don't know that no other team offered "better" so you can't make that comment. Teams get ripped off all the time, not because they can't get better, but because they believed that was the best deal for them.

Tangelos
Don't forget we also took on Reinprecht's salary to help out Florida as well. They're a cash strapped team that wasn't benefiting from paying him $2+M in the minors, nor was it helping them to pay Booth so much with younger players coming up in the system when they could play a couple of veterans on expiring contracts to bridge the gap instead. Both teams got what they wanted from that deal. Florida's goals were short term and financially motivated, while Vancouver's were longer term and about on ice performance. It's much the same with this deal, where both teams have a reason for doing it, even if it doesn't make immediate sense.
