Too many 3rd line-type players being sked to provide secondary scoring. Offensive talent doesn't always come with flawless defensive responsibility. AV's insistence that everyone has to be great defensively hs stymied the offensive development of the club. I like Higgins, Booth, Hansen, Lappy even Raymond buth these guys are third line checkers with some offensive upside. THey are unable to generate any meaningful offensive pressure on a consitent basis. If the D don't score, it's up to the Sedins and honestly, they don't look like they have it in them this year. Maybe they're tired of not having any real help in the offence department and paying thie price by being targeted by every team in the league.

I honestly have not witnessed any team this year struggle to generate offensive opportunities as much as the Nucks. They need bonafide offensive power on that 2nd line. IT will cost assets but MG is delusional if he thinks the offensive talent on this team will take them far.

Not to mention the coach's style stifles individual creativity. This has to be one of the most boring, one dimensional offensive teams in the league. Overrated offensively is the term that comes to mind. And the constant miscasting of players is getting ridiculous now.

Did anyone else see that one timer by Garrison on a feather pass by Ballard? I want to see that all game long on the PP. Get Edler off there and get Ballard/Garrison on for a few games.

I haven't but it looks like fun.

Whatever is the problem(or problems)with our team, needs immediate attention. This embarrassment should stop for sake of the players. With the talent we have how this can be happening? I hope MG finally makes some changes, perhaps AV is first on his list, or ownership should analyze MG work. Whatever happens in the next few weeks lets not loose fate in our guys. They are still our home team.

who's available though?

from the Canucks perspective, I'd say

Ballard
Higgins
Raymond
Booth
all of the 4th liners
Ballard
Edler (yes, even Edler at this point is expendable. The amount of money tied up with d-men on this team is just insane)

Here's what GMMG should do:

Edler for Bobby Ryan
Higgins and Booth for Danny Briere
Ballard for Roman Polak (beast of a Right handed D)
Sauve, pick for Mark Streit (can set Garrison up on pp like Campbell)
Rodin for Marcel Goc

Undecided on goaltending. It's suppose to be the strongest position but it hasn't looked that way.

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Briere-Kesler-Ryan
Raymond-Goc-Hansen
Weise-Lapierre-Kassian

Hamhuis-Bieksa
Garrison-Tanev
Streit-Polak

Luongo/Schneider

Yeah, and now the Lakers have a coach totally mismatched to his players' strengths. The only reason they're currently, and finally, on a bit of a roll is Kobe Bryant's phenomenal recent play in a great overall season. Without him, D'Antoni would look like even a bigger chump.

As always, careful what you wish for.

For once I agree. We have so many grinder type 3rd line players playing more than they should. Why not package Booth and Higgins for someone who can actually produce at a 50 point pace. Depth is fine, but a team needs a foundation and just piling a bunch of 3rd liners onto a team and saying we have depth doesn't necessarily translate into actual goals.

Here's the changes needed

1. AV has to go. This team needs a shake up in the room and a coach who is bringing the attitude he had when he first got here. Remember when he came? He played no favorites, people got upset bec he was ran Nazzy out of town bc he wanted him to play 2 ways. As wrong as that was, it set a precedent, you earn your ice. He kept up with that until the cup run and post.

He then got his favorites and his dogs. Yes you need to play your starts if you want to win. But when your stars are not playing like stars, sometimes giving them a day in the press box can settle them down, relax them a little, let them see the game from a different perspective, how they might be making bad decisions, where their players are, and some time to just think about what they need to bring (hello edler).

Coho decision was right (trade) but at that time Kesler was playing like crap and hurt (should have put him in the press box and let him learn a bit, again passing. playing with fire etc, instead, worried about Kesler's ego, etc).

Ballard - plays well but in the doghouse first mistake, Edler can play worse than a peewee and he doesn't sit

Tanev plays like a stud but doesn't move up

Kassian plays like the next coming of Cam Neely and he's on the fourth line

Schroeder comes out looking like our future number 2 and he's on the fourth line

Rome and Alberts - just show up and we get to play

All this leads to a change in the veterans on the team's mentality. I don't have to compete attitude, I have my spot, who are they going to play instead becomes the attitude. Vets get complacent, and rookies figure I'm not getting a shot anyways so i'll just check away and stay in the NHL and get paid. But no cohesion develops, no internal competition occurs (which the team prided itself on), complacency emerges, which is what we see.

He has confused the room that way. It used to be work hard, play hard, you get ice. When you take the merit out, to such extremes its hard to have a team that fights every night. If your stars are playing as starts different issue (Chicago), but if they are not, there needs to be accountability, and AV has, though his own actions made players LESS accountable and this is why he needs to go, along with his coaches.

2. Lou - trade, end this sillyness, and if the move is Schnieder, well you better get that future 1C back who's a can't miss stud and a first. If that happens ok fine.

3. Edler needs to sit a few games

4. Kassian needs to be playing on the top 2

5. Booth needs to be moved, even to free up cap space. He doesn't bring anything. (someone said move him and higgins but no way, higgins is huge come playoff time).

6. Send Schroeder back and let him play top line minutes in the minors assuming we get a c back in the Goalie/Booth deal

I'm being a bit, but not entirely, ridiculous when I say that's the type of individual creativity that will lead to one of them being a healthy scratch for not sticking with the gameplan.

Contents of closed door meeting?

Hank: "Av confided in me that MG has warned him his job is on the line if we don't improve. We all want him gone so we have to play poorly but not too poorly as we did in Detroit. We took it too far that game. Lou...thats was silly. Settle it down, lose by 1 or 2 goals for the next week and then we can push once we get a new coach. Any questions? No? ok, lets await a couple of minutes before we go out there so it looks like we were doing something in here."

lol...sure you did...

Schnieder played bad?

1. Goal 1 - 2 on 1 moving across and Parise (who is one of the most dangerous players in the league) got it off fast and in a good spot, and it found a hole. If you played anything other than waterboy at UMass there champ you'd get that

2. Goal 2 - tip in top of the crease from the backdoor coming across pass from behind the net/corner and no one touched the guy. So again, if you played anything other than waterboy you'd get that.

3. Goal 3 - one timer on a pp where the whole team was standing around (go look at that pp again, the whole 30 seconds of harlem globetrotter passing in our end, how no canuck moved or even put pressure on the puck), again one timer and screened. Again, if you played at Umass you;d get that.

4. Goal 4 well I didn't see it but if you think this game was bec of schnieder you didn't play anywhere but as umass on nhl 13 champ

5. How about the obscene oddman chances he stopped? how about the fact when it was 2-0 he held the team in shutting down 2 pp's by Minne? How about the breakaway? hmmm

go watch the game and think, and ya the highest level of hockey you've played is in the western ball hockey league c division, its pretty damn obvious.

lol ball hockey league, that the highest you got to? and yes i did play college hockey, u mad?

Schneider was not good on the 1st and 4th goals. get over it and calm your hard-on for him

So the issue with Garrison is he is slow as mud skating back to retrieve the puck. But on the flipside the Sedins cycle and dont even think of passing to him. He gets the puck by accident more than not. Partnering him with Edler is pointless since Edler wont ever pass back to set him up. I watched Garrison skate to the middle for the setup and nothing ever came, guy would be wide open.Very frustrating to watch.

Ehhhhhnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wrong!

Bandwagon Fan
Anyone who claims they are a "fan" of a particular sports team, even though they had no prior support for/interest in the team until that team started winning. These types of fans only show playoff interest, have probably never watched a regular season game, don't own any type of team merchandise, nor would they buy any.

Just because you are "worried" or ticked off with your team's performance, does NOT MAKE YOU A BANDWAGON FAN!
Anyone not wearing 2 million sunblock is going to have really bad day!
Get it?

Edit: BTW, can people here on CDC please learn the difference between "your" and "you're" and when each is supposed to be used?

Finally an argument with some meat.

I totally agree with you. I have been a huge Luo fan and will be very sad when he goes but I too feel that Schneider is our future and is one hell of a goaltender.

We can't deny that Luo has taken a lot of blame for losses that were clearly bad defense and lack of offense in front of him. I think Luo fans get annoyed that Schneider doesn't take the same kind of critisism. I mean come on Luo has been lights out and then has a bad game in Detroit and he is the same old Luo that choked in the '11 playoffs.

he has but i think it stems from the rollercoaster games, shut out one game, weak goals and 8 against the next in the playoffs.

you just can't have that in the playoffs, however 'on you are' when you're on, you can't be that bad when you're bad and he has been 'bad'

his issue has never been talent, work ethic, desire. its mental. the greatest goalies in the game have had nerves of steel. Hasek, Roy, Brodeur. Lou isn't that. I see more of that in Schnieder but only time will tell. Can Lou find it, maybe...and if he did I would be so happy for the guy to be able to say 'f u' doubters..i did it.

the man has done a terrific amount for this franchise, for this city, canucks place, he is a terrific person, athlete competitor. If he can find a way I'd love to see a story of overcoming the odds, but only if we get one HELL of a deal that secures our future by trading Schnieds.

I totally agree that when Luo has a melt down its ugly. But the question that has to be asked is why was he still in the net for goals 6-8?

gillis ruined this team....to many bad moves and mismanaging the whole goalie issue.
the team that had so much success is gone.... salo, samuelson, ehrhoff and luongo(not gone but might as well be if hes gonna be on the bench), ......manny situ unfortunate...and hate to say it but if we still had hodgson to fill in for kesler we would be better off.
oh well, shoulda coulda woulda...i say fire gillis.
