Jokinen was on waivers already, and no one picked him up for free (with contract obviously), so why trade for him?

Death is certain, replacing both the siren-song of Paradise and the dread of Hell. Life on this earth, with all its mystery and beauty and pain, is then to be lived far more intensely: we stumble and get up, we are sad, confident, insecure, feel loneliness and joy and love. There is nothing more; but I want nothing more.

I'm honestly not expecting much, Luongo will not be dealt, we may get Raffi Torres back.

Why on earth would we give Ballard and a 3rd rounder up for someone we could've grabbed for free on waivers?

Cap relief. Trade for him and get the canes to pay some of his contract. Bob Mackenzie had talked about on TSN.

I expect nothing. We'll probably be told Kesler returning is the biggest acquisition we could have hoped for.

1. With the Higgins rumor, I predict Raymond is traded to a contender in the east, maybe Montreal for Weber+
2. I predict we pick up at least 1 player from Phoenix with the most likely being Boyd Gordon.
3. I predict a goalie trade does come in the 11th hour, a center/wing hybrid player comes back.
4. I predict we do not land Clowe.
5. I predict one of Schroeder or Connauton will be traded.
6. I predict we will retain our 1st overall but lose our 2nd and 3rd.
7. I predict we will be able to sell Ballard's contract.
8. I predict we make a trade with Tampa Bay.
9. I predict we make a trade with Dallas.
10. I predict more than 50% of CDC are happy with the trade deadline.

Hope I go 10/10!

Currently: 30%

Ballard and Raymond can't be traded as they are injured (foot and shoulder respectivley)

Possibly Higgins on the move if anyone.

So if I understand you correctly, the Canucks are going to...
-Trade for a player they could have picked up for free on waivers a couple weeks ago
-Trade for guy they opted not to resign a year and a half ago
-Flip a 9 goal scorer (and other assets) for a zero goal scorer

Players can be traded with an injury as long as there is full disclosure amongst the teams on the degree and type of injury.

Why is everyone so hot for Clowe? The guy has zero goals this season. Zero. Not exactly going to help our lack of scoring.

Yes they can. Being injured doesn't prevent you from being traded. It does however tend to make buyers leery of taking those players. Higgins was recovering from an injury when we acquired him. Detroit acquired Bertuzzi from Florida while he was still injured. It can and does happen.

Ummm....

The Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday reportedly acquired center Derek Roy from the Dallas Stars in exchange for a second-round draft pick and defensive prospect Kevin Connauton.
Bob McKenzie of TSN reported the deal via his Twitter account.
In 30 games this season, Roy has four goals, 22 points and a plus-3 rating. The Stars acquired Roy on July 2, 2012, in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Steve Ott and Adam Pardy. Prior to joining the Stars, Roy spent his first seven NHL seasons with the Sabres, producing 161 goals and 427 points in 549 matches.
Connauton, selected in the third round (No. 83) of the 2009 Draft by the Canucks, was considered to be Vancouver's top defensive prospect. The 23-year-old defender had seven goals, 24 points and 67 penalty minutes in 60 games with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.

Watching that Gillis interview was painful. What does he want? Teams to knock his door down and beg him to take their stars off their hands.

The bollocks just comes streaming out, from time zone crap to "teams all seem to want the same type of player"......well yeh!

Honestly guys I had to stop watching before I would have either been forced to chuck my laptop across the floor or lookout my violin.

He sounds such a wimp. No wonder he never gets deals done.........he probably craps his pants at the sound of his phone ringing.

Yeah he was just one of the most shrewd player agents in the NHL. I'm sure he doesn't know how to negotiate or answer a phone.

Roy is a playmaking centre. He fills an obvious need and will get the puck to the guys who are supposed to score.

Clowe is a winger who isn't scoring. He doesn't fill as obvious of a need.

A couple trades that I would be happy to see...
To Carolina: Keith Ballard
To Vancouver: Jussi Jokinen
Vancouver gets a potential 2nd line winger while dumping Ballards contacts. Carolina gets a potential top 4 d-man/good top 6 d-man while dumping Jokinen.

To San Jose: Mason Raymond, 4th round pick
To Vancouver: Ryan Clowe
Vancouver gets big body winger to bulk up 3rd line/fill in the top 6 for injuries. San Jose gets a speedy winger having a better offensive year and a mid round pick

To Toronto: Roberto Luongo, Anton Rodin, 3rd round pick (Canucks retain 20% of Luongo's salary)
To Vancouver: Joe Colbourne, Carter Ashton, Mark Fraser, Ben Scrivens
Only go through if Toronto can't get Kiprusoff. Toronto gets a vetern who upgrades their goalie situation, a mid level prospect, and a decent pick. Vancouver bolsters their prospect pool while getting a back up goalie and a defenceman to replace Ballard

Final Roster (healthy)
FORWARDS
Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($4.500m)
David Booth ($4.250m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Jussi Jokinen ($3.000m)
Ryane Clowe ($3.625m) / Derek Roy ($4.000m) / Jannik Hansen ($1.350m)
Chris Higgins ($1.900m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / Dale Weise ($0.615m)
Andrew Ebbett ($0.600m) / Steve Pinizzotto ($0.600m)
DEFENSEMEN
Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m)
Alexander Edler ($5.000m) / Jason Garrison ($4.600m)
Mark Fraser ($0.600m) / Chris Tanev ($0.900m)
Andrew Alberts ($1.225m) /
GOALTENDERS
Cory Schneider ($4.000m)
Ben Scrivens ($0.613m)

The NHL is a fixed old boys club. I've come to acceptance with that and just watch for entertainment. The 2011 & 2012 Canucks are champs in my books. Go Canucks Go!

You trade for Jokinen to get rid of Ballard's contract, not that I think that Carolina would agree to it at all.You do understand that Ballard has a negative trade value because of his contract, right?
