Electro Rock
Dyke trails huh? I don't think anybody who could compare the two would say the new Vancouver is better than the old one, the city jumped the shark back in 1994 if you ask me. There's still some good points remaining but this is no longer the place that built the good reputation.
-DLC-
Haha, ok, not the best description. And I agree, 100%, about the "no longer the place that..." So true. It's been exploited and the secret's out. Used to be a treasure with a feel of community...it's grown big, cold and impersonal.

Armada
The amazing backyard we have leading us to the most beautiful outdoor areas in Canada. That includes the 3 ski slopes we have watching over the city. How many major cities have 3 ski resorts overlooking a big city on the ocean? Warhippy
UBC and the surrounding area is pretty awesome. Stereotypical but I like curling up in a cafe on a rainy day. Buzz Cafe has great couches for cuddle addicts

Pouria
interesting that you guys would feel like this. one of my friends who moved to T. over 10 years ago has said essentially the same thing - Van has grown more impersonal/unfriendly through the years. i really don't see it though; people i meet still say hi back if i greet them on the street; i know and am friends with my neighbours; customer service reps are friendly; people hold open doors and give up their seats; local businesses recognize their customers and their regulars... the vancouver i know is still very community oriented & friendly. it was a bit more obvious to me when i left van though.. Pouria
I love everything about it, except how it's becoming the playground of the rich and famous and, in the process, leaving some of us in the dust. I love the backdrop...the mountains/water. I especially love the wildlife - I simply bike ride down the street from my place to enjoy eagles, herons, seals/sea lions. It's spectacular scenery. I love the Fraser River and spend much of my quality/me time sitting on the banks of it. By far, my favourite spot is Garry Point and the dyke trails in Richmond. To be able to ride a bike around the city and enjoy the views is something special...I don't have the luxury of traveling abroad but don't ever feel shortchanged with this option available to me. I think it's lost a bit of the unique "feel" in Vancouver that it once had...the music scene, in particular, used to be very cool here. Underground/punk type clubs that were rich with culture and history that would only be fully appreciated AFTER their demise. Spent many nights trudging to the Smiling Buddha to watch my brother in law to be's band. Catching shows by DOA, Black Flag and other bands that would likely not fit in to today's Vancouver. It's cleaned up and trendier, but has lost some of its charm through that as far as I'm concerned. Went back through some old photos by Foncie recently online (Vancouver street photographer of the 50's, 60's, 70's). That was Vancouver, in all its splendor...it's how I remember it from my childhood days. I love the track at Hastings...that's one of my favourite Saturday afternoon hangouts. Beautiful there, and it's one of the things that hasn't changed over the years.
MillerGenuineDraft
Emery Barnes Park is my favourite place to get my schoolwork done, just relax and listen to music, and kind of get away. It really just takes together everything great about Vancouver. A block from the water, great shops and restaurants. I want to live in that part of Yaletown when I'm older. Electro Rock
Its due to high influx of immigrants. It is true and I do notice the same thing compared to 15 years ago. Too many foreigners coming to Van and not integrating into society has really disrupted the friendly communities that Vancouver had back then.
