Roberto Luongo now 16th in NHL History for Wins

He has a shot at 2nd in wins in the next 4 years with his regular 35+ wins a season.

Now I pose this again, same thing I posed for Brodeur, imagine his numbers IF

There is not two lockouts

AV actually played a defensive style of play

The team didn't let in all those squeaker goals with minutes left to lose him a shutout.

By the time Luongo finishes his career he will be 2nd in all time wins, 3rd in all time shutouts and will have less or comparable losses than most others in the top 10 doing it.

But he will still only be known as the guy we should have traded instead of Schneider or ripped on for 3 playoff meltdowns because some people....

Are just that stupid

Those are definitely floating around some people's minds. Big IFs but who knows, we've seen these kinds of things happen before, so here's to hoping!

As for THOSE people... yes, they are just THAT stupid sometimes. It is easy to blame the one in net (I'll admit, I've been vocal about his performance in the past) but the truth is, they are running out of material, so they pipe up about a rant worthy topic and watch their handy work from the side. All they want to do is merely start a fight they can't back up (other than with riot jokes or diving or calling our players very intelligent names)... They have no respect whatsoever

I think that's kinda normal whey you reach a certain level of success. It's the same in other sports as well. There a new "fans" blaming certain players because they are not as good as the top players. They don't care that these guys are solid for years or are kinda heroes for many (real) fans, because they barely know anything about the history of the club. Of course they will be gone, when the succesful era ends, so don't worry about them.

When you look at some folks attending matches of Dortmund in the Bundesliga or (even worde) in the Champions League, it's just embarassing...

Realistically, he will end up #3 when he's done and may even push for 2nd...something we all forget.

That being said, wins are also a 'team' stat....what will matter when he's done will be

1. Did he win a cup - the big one...

2. What was his save % relative to those in the top 5 - seems like he'll be there

3. What was his gaa relative to those in the top 5 - seems like he'll be there

4. How many shutouts relative to those in the top 5 - who knows..tough one

If he's in the same area as the top 5 and achieves all of that, well he'll be our second hall of famer.

First you have to look at all those goalie who are ahead of him and realize they haven't been lucky to enjoy shoot out wins. Broduer, Roy, Belfore, Sawchuk, Plante and many other all have over 100+ ties. Those ties could have all been wins in todays shootouts. Even a 50% win rate in the shootout makes a big difference.

With that said it is quite the accomplishment none the less.

On a side note, was anyone else pissed off last night when burr got taken down on a clear hook with 1 minute left and no call. It left us with a full last minute in the game with leafs on the PP and a good chance to ruin the shutout. Glad we killed it off though.

He's going to be top 10 in 2 seasons, and top 5 in 3.

But this also means he's getting old.

All-time records are great accomplishments and indicate consistency in great play throughout many years, but not a reflection on the goaltender's current status in the league as an elite puck-stopper.

Lui still has 3-4 years of really good hockey left in him, so I'm not too worried. But boy, he's had a heck of a career.
