For some reason I think Hemsky would be an ideal winger for Kesler...fast, creative, and pass first.

Other than that, I only see Michalek, Moulson, or Cammaleri as reasonably priced options.

I agree with you. Hemsky has always had a ton of talent, but it hasn't really flourished until he got traded to the Sens.

That goal he scored against Tampa this year was FILTHY.

Even if we were able to sign all the free agents we wanted to fill out the roster(miller, Ott, Vanek, inginla, Cammalleri etc) we still arent good enough to beat LA which makes the discussion kinda moot. lets not cling to the calgary flames model and spend the next 4 years being a bubble team making it to the 1st or 2nd round. Retool with youth not old guys, keep some of the veterans and start the youth movement, If we make the playoffs next year bonus. Colorado thats what we want.

We're not beating a lineup of:

Gaborik Kopitar Brown

Pearnson Carter Toffoli

King Richards Williams

Clifford Stoll Lewis

Muzzin Doughty

Mitchell Voynov

Martinez Greene

Regehr

Quick

With whatever ragtag of 30 year olds we could hope to assemble.

Really, Sure this team is going to get younger but that doesn’t mean we have to suck the next 5 years. It also doesn't mean that it has to effect the NHL roster. We can still be a team that remains competitive. We already have a large number of prospects, they need to be brought in under a winning environment and they still need to earn their spots.

The lineup below would definitely give LA a run for their money.

Sedin Sedin Spezza

Cammalleri Kesler Iggy

Booth Matthias Kassian

Dalpe Richardson Archie

Hammer Juice

Garrison Tanev

Corrado Stanton

Lack

Markstrom

It allows our youth do get some professional experience and learn the game at a high level in the AHL, they will also be first called up for when injuries occur. Build them into winners, Not just throw them into the game and hope they pan out

Even without any major trades or UFA signings canucks are still a very good team. They will make playoffs next year and will make a push depending how Lack plays.

If Iginla is so important as a 'mentor', then he should re-sign with the Flames .. we have 'mentorship' coming out of our ears .. we needs some youth and exuberance to grab this team by the short and curlies and get em motivated ..

NO TO JAROME!

I like Cammalleri and Stallman.

Also Gaborik, T.Lewis and M.Greene from LA would be solid pick ups. Torres as well.

Miller would be great in goal. I would like to see what the two big Swedes can become though.

Two top 6 forwards is ideal.

The key is no contract should be signed for more than 3 yrs.

LA was one game from being swept in the first one. One game, If it wasn't for a whole lot of luck the kings all mighty roster would have been dissembled this off season. Same could have been said about the canucks in 2011 first round. Same thing about the bruin as well in 2011. The thing people can't understand is that the best roster on paper doesn't always win. If that was the case there wouldn't even be playoff it would just be decided that the team that wins regulars season wins

We definitely need an experienced goalie to split duties with Lack for the next couple of years. Looks like Hiller is the best option left.

I tend to understand the feeling that the way we gave up two great goalies was hard to take. I hope we can get a decent experienced backup.

A much more competitive roster that fits Lindens & Bennings Vision of incorporating youth, size, grit, skill, vet presence and balance (4 lines that can play both skill & grind style) would look more like this after these additions.

1. Horvat, Jensen, Kassian, Matthias, Tanev, Lack, Markstrom

2. Add a top 6 Vet with skill, grit, leadership. Iginla fits the bill. Sign him to a cap friendly bonus heavy contract

3. Add a Young Physical Stay at home Dman with potential. Matt Greene has heart of a warrior

4. Add a Vet Dman with a big right shot to stabilize the D core. Salo (allow him to retire a Canuck & help the PP)

5. Add a physical bottom 6 forward with leadership. Thornton

6. Retain current core that underachieved: Sedins, Kesler, Burrows,Hamhius, Bieksa (OD), Garrison (good chemistry with Juice i.e world championship) and Edler( will regain form with a physical stay at home D partner)

7. Unfortunately buyout Booth

8. Move youth in & out from Utica: Fox, Lain, Corrado, Hunter S, Darren A...

9. Sign Depth NHL experience forwards to supplement farm & parent team: Dalpe, Jordan S...

10. Retain significant cap space to add at the deadline if need be: Approx 3.9 million

Team Looks more like this:

Roster Size Upper Limit Cap Payroll Avg. Bonuses Cap Space
23 $71,100,000 $67,157,500 $850,000 $3,942,500
.
D. Sedin $7,000,000 H. Sedin $7,000,000 Z. Kassian 3,000,000
B. Horvat $894,167 R. Kesler $5,000,000 J. Iginla 2,000,000
A. Burrows $4,500,000 S. Matthias $1,750,000 N. Jensen $863,333

I could go with this. Although i do believe that some of our youths can/should be with the team full team as i think they are ready for some nhl seasoning. If Salo can come back, that would be great for mentoring.

Assuming nothing is traded or acquired...

Sedin - Sedin - Jensen

Kassian - Kesler - Burrows

Higgins - Richardson - Hansen

Archibald - Mathias - ?????

We also have Lain or Santo or JS. We are not in trouble as some people claim. Lots of pieces to work with, within our org.
