Lineup Thread (Regular Season) - Yup Another one

What I think will be the lineup come opening day.

Now we've all season how everyone's been playing and I think one of Hunter, Bo, or Jensen make this team. Horvat has been solid defensively and on the PK and thats a valuable asset to have on this team. Jensen has been put into offensive situations and he's excelled and well Hunter is showing everyone why he should stick with the big club.

However, seeing as how Hunter is waiver eligible and can play in the AHL I think this sort of hurts his chances of making the team. I'm ok with him getting a season under his belt in the AHL before being a regular with the Canucks come next season.

Horvat on the other hand isn't AHL eligible and Junior wouldn't do him too good. He's solid defensively he's great on the PK, good face-off guy and he has the body to play in the NHL and he is still only 19. Yeah his offensive game isn't still there yet but neither was Kesler's when he first started out. But still, and I hate to say it, I see him getting his 9 games in and then sent to Juniors. He'll be playing in the World Juniors along side McDavid which should help him polish up his offensive game a little.

Jensen on the other hand does have an offensive game, he showed us last year he can play on the big club and that hasn't changed this preseason.

Here is my lineup

Sedin - Sedin - Vrbata

Burrows - Bonino - Jensen

Higgins - Horvat - Kassian

Matthias - Vey - Hansen

Richardson

Sestito

Hunter - First Call-up

Hamhuis - Bieksa

Edler - Sbisa

Corrado - Tanev

Stanton

Weber

Miller

Lack

Kassian hasn't shown me much as to why he should be on the 2nd, he's been slow, made some boneheaded plays and just isn't cutting it. So start him on the 3rd and let him earn his spot on to the 2nd if he is able to do so. Jensen should start on the 2nd ahead of Kassian (he's earned it so far - let's see how he does for the rest of the preseason). Burrows on the other hand just had a bad year as did the rest of the team so I still have hope for him to return to form and he's a lock for the 2nd line LW but can be interchanged with basically anyone in the bottom 6.

Higgins is a heart a soul type player something this team is lacking in and would be a great mentor for Horvat. Horvat starts with the Big club gets his 9 games in and then goes back to Juniors. Kassian needs to earn his spot to the 2nd line.

Matthias and Hansen will be playing on the 4th with Vey who has been great this preseason. After 9 games Vey moves up to the 3rd and Richardson take his spot on the 4th.

As for our D, I think Corrado should be playing on the big club ahead of weber and stanton. He's solid defensively and he showed us last season he can play in the NHL. This gives us much needed depth on D with Stanton and Weber as our 7th and 8th.

Overall, This team has depth something we've been lacking since our cup run and depth plays a great role in making it to June.

I still think we are a solid top 6 winger away from being a legitimate threat. Hopefully Hunter plays lights out in Utica and can be that guy for us.

Discuss...

P.S. I know a lot of people on here have hard-ons for some of the younger guys but they don't need to be rushed with all this depth. So keep your d**** in your pants. Furthermore, we shouldn't trade Burrows, Hansen, Matthias or Richardson and hinder our depth.

Just my 2 Cents

Sedin-Sedin-Vrbata (primary offensive line)

Shinkaurk-Vey-Kassian (speed, playmaking, energy, size; great 2A line)

Higgins-Bonino-Burrows (good 2 way 2B line that can hold their own in their own end)

Matthias-Richardson-Hansen (great shutdown line that can chip in with offense)

Dorsett (can be plugged into the 4th line easily)

Hamhuis-Tanev (great shutdown pairing)

Stanton-Bieksa (toughness, played well together last season, good mix of offense and defense)

Sbisa-Corrado (youth, can be given sheltered minutes)

Weber (good PP specialist)

Edler (has to earn a spot in the lineup this season)

Miller

Lack

All mini-modding will be reported.

I can't agree with you cutting Richardson.. 4th line duties are more than just go on the ice for a bit... There are more to lines than numbers and Vey isn't suited for the 4th line. Richardson is a key defensive draw, and penalty kill guy.

Sedin Sedin Vrbata

Burrows Bonino Jensen - a very real line up possibility, it's Kassians spot to lose, kind of a defensive liability other than Burrows.

Higgins Horvat Vey - good defensive checking line with some speed, Higgins and Burrows interchangeable.

Matthias Richardson Kassian

Dorsett Sestito

I just can't help but see Hansen as the odd man out if Horvat makes the line up... Dorsett can be subbed in for rough games.

Big question is who plays next to Edler

Edler Tanev - Neither guy are great puck carries or can make a great first pass. Sound defensive line

Hamhuis Bieksa - shut down with some offensive spark

Sbisa Stanton I liked Tanev Stanton but This is our obvious bottom pairing.

Weber

Now why my version of your speculated line up works better is

PP 1

Sedin Sedin Vrbata

Edler Jensen - two great passers with a couple trigger men

PP 2

Higgins Bonino Burrows

Bieksa Kassian - Bonino leads the way with Higgins and Kassian really benefiting. Kassian sits on the goalie

PK 1

Burrows Richardson

Hamhuis Bieksa

PK 2

Matthias Horvat

Edler Tanev

Miller

It's not bad. I think it's thread worthy since the line up at this point is such a moving target. I think 2 jobs are up for contention this year, that being Sestito and Richardson. Based on the play of Jensen, Shinkaruk and Horvat, they all are looking like NHLers. I'd include Gaunce in this group too, but unfortunately he was sent down. I'd say we're looking at 16 forwards for 14 spots (2 spares):

This was the consensus in the offseason:

Sedin - Sedin - Vrbata

Burrows - Bonino - Kassian

Higgins - Vey - Hansen

Matthias - Richardson - Dorsett

Sestito

Now add in Shinkaruk, Jensen and possibly Horvat (I think he gets 9 games).

Sedin - Sedin - Vrbata

Shinkaruk - Bonino - Kassian

Higgins - Vey - Jensen

Burrows - Matthias - Hansen (Willie wants a 4th line that can play)

Dorsett, Horvat

Based on the cuts today, the blueline is set:

Edler - Tanev

Hamhuis - Bieksa

Sbisa - Stanton

Weber

Miller

As much as I love Shinkaruk and how much he has earned a spot, Jensen is just simply more NHL ready. Shinkaruk plays at both ends, but Jensen is better in his own end.

I really feel like Horvat should make the team BECAUSE he has to go to Juniors... If a centre goes down its just more depth...

With Horvat staying our centre depth looks like this

Sedin

Bonino

Vey

Horvat

Matthias

Richardson

Gaunce

I believe the line up you posted gives us the best chance at winning right now. It's got tons of depth, a good amount of youth, and strong vet presence. It may not have the Thorton Couture Pavelski down the middle or Getzlaf Kesler 1 2 punch but it's still a solid well rounded roster. We finally have the depth we lacked since 2011. If Horvat becomes a mainstay our 4th line is a 4th line on a very good team and a 3rd on a lot of teams in this league.

^^^with all those possibilities I am pumped for this season. There isn't any standout superstars like a Crosby or Kane and there isn't a stud number one like a weber or a Keith and no stud puck mover like a Karlson or an ekman larsson. ..

But there is well rounded depth throughout the lineup and we are still solid as ever in goal...

Should be Interesting. I love what linden and Benning have done and say what you want about Mike Gillis but his draft picks and under the radar steals have set a great foundation for the new regime.

The return of the Canucks!!

Isn't it great having these problems? :)
