time to drop the U2 songs

I don't notice the goal song on TV, and I like U2 but....

U2 is totally inappropriate for psyche up music, as a goal song? I can't think of one of their tunes that would work.

I like all kinds of music, but for goal songs you gotta whip out the Butt-rock, that's just the way it is.

I would have a problem if they went totally left fuel and played "ode to joy" or "pomp and circumstance" (Randy "Macho Man" Savage's old entrance music) bur if they want to play contemporary music they have to go with the Butt-rock or up-tempo hip hop (Which no one really makes anymore)

Look at ANH with "Bro Hymn" or CHI with "Chelsea smile" now those are goal songs!

My vote?

Either "Pomp and Circumstance" (I think the crowd would "duh duh duh" along with it)

Or keep it local, not Bryan Adams, but obscure, classic, local old school rock like Flash Bastard or Slow. Culture snobs would be blown away if they did that. Start either one at the chorus, and THAT'S a goal song!

Culture snobs aren't the ones filling the seats. For every one person that gets the nod, a hundred more will be asking what obscure nonsense the Canucks were pulling out.

U2 gets played because it is high-profile and recognizable to the unwashed masses. It will keep getting played because they have probably spent a lot of money on it.

I love U2. But I get pumped by the goal being scored, not the music. Doesn't matter to me what the goal song is.

that's a hard concept for the vast majority here. if a goal song annoys you that much then maybe you shouldn't be watching, or pray that the team never scores a goal again, because disturbed and all of this bull**** will not be played as a goal song. i'm totally ok with streets returning as the opener because it sets the mood for something serious. if we're talking about using a u2 song for a pump up tune, it has to be the fly

I'd say that works, lack the "sing along" factor, but still a highly adequate goal song.

I wish they'd use that band you hipped me too a few months back, that I was SHOCKED I had never heard. God I love this song.

Glad you enjoy it! It would be a great song! But I'm still partial to this.

these suggestions are almost as lame as u2 and the reputation vancouver has on the north american circuit as dull and un imaginative.

2 things we need is something relative to winning hockey culture that will get the arenas mojo going and less uptight

starting at around 50 seconds in

or my favorite

i mean if your paying professional DJs....why the hell wouldnt you make them work for their money in the name of excellence and get away from all the mainstream crap

I don't even believe that enough Canuck fans would even care that much about a goal song to even make this an issue. They probably would just live with it and enjoy the games rather than make an issue out of it.

There are always going to be a few people that don't like it, no matter what you play after a goal because they will want, what they think should be played, to be played and anything else would be unacceptable.

This is a thread started by op stating his own opinions about something that is not even that big of a deal in the 1st place. If you're sitting at home listen to your own music, it's that simple. Is that even reason enough to start a new thread? Troll much?

It's a hockey game not a night club. The mainstream crap is considerably more popular. Popular = more happy people. It's really just that simple. It doesn't matter what is used there will be those who don't like it. Thus using what will be enjoyed by most as opposed to the small niche that prefer the obscure.

just because your of the misguided opinion that it isnt important, doesnt mean our organization wouldnt benefit from a new attitude and dedicattion to excellence

Just because the song you want to be played after we score a goal isn't being played you want to pout and whine about it and make it an issue? So this dedication to excellence and new attitude you are talking about is going to be birthed/created out of being negative and bringing negativity?...

Hmmm.. I should try that more often then, cry and whine and make issues of thing that don't work out or go my way.

It helps immeasurably if you hold your breath and stamp your feet.

I believe I read somewhere that the Canucks were 7th in scoring, in the league. So, to you, after the season we had last year, thats playing like crap? Really?

think you're in the wrong thread, buds. this is a thread about **** music being played at a hockey game, not the team playing like ****

Thank you captain obvious, i'll keep that in mind.

As you can see its a response to the above quoted post. :P

The goal song is a small sample of a U2 song and has nothing to do with liking or hating any of their previous songs. It's a sample of a chorus.

Jeez these regular attempts by music freaks to argue for their obscure heavy metal crap are pathetic. Most of you guys probably don't care much about the hockey as long as you have some unheard of or dreary track to to flog on here.

There is nothing wrong with U2, it's like our jersey, it says Canucks, so get over it.
