What bloody arrogance.

Nice to see Linden has loyalty to the organization.....this would be almost like the Oilers firing Joey Moss.

Canucks will be the laughingstock of the NHL the next 10 years.....Oilers style. Book it.

I will kind of enjoy it....the camera panning over to the stonefaced visage of Benning and Linden when the other Pacific teams bend this team over.

Lol laughing stock of the NHL for the next 10 years - for firing a trainer. I think you need a new drama regulator.

If Burnstein can get fired after 20 years of loyal service, the constipated orca logo can be ditched as well.

What an utterly stupid thing to say.

Firstly what does term have to do with fitness for purpose and secondly what has the Orca to do with the damned team's situation?

Yup, and then we'll hear all of this talk from Benning about how it takes 5 years to rebuild. Meanwhile, in about 5 years, McDavid will be entering his prime and tearing this team up for years. Yeah, it's not going to be pretty for a very long time.

Not much of a rebuild then, is it?

Thats pretty funny, but you forgot the punchline...

"Because they fired the trainer..."

I'm going to question more of the Canucks medical staff. Because we've had issues in recent years over players and injuries.

- Kassian. How messed was his back? Did he see a specialist? Was there surgery as an option? What was the issue?

- Hodgson. He declared his back was mis-diagnosed. How does that happen? Why did the Canucks refuse to believe it?

- Manny. Playing three seasons in the NHL after being let go by the Canucks with his eye injury?

- Brad Richardson. His injuries.

Was some of this Mike's fault, for not finding regimens that would help with recovery from back and health issues, or perhaps spotting problems earlier?

It does seem the franchise is having issues with player injuries, worse yet, they seem to have players with reoccuring injuries.

Mike very well might be a nice guy, and good at what he does. But maybe the team wants a healthier club, one that helps prevent injuries, and recover faster.

At the very least the doctor's need to be looked at. And yes, why is Delorme still here?

Trevor, is this you? Well said.

Over a trainer? Kind of extreme. You realize the guy they are replacing him with is one of the most respected men in his field WORLDWIDE. The Canucks are not just impressing other hockey teams, but other sport franchises in other countries.

That doesn't mean we have to lose each trade by a landslide. I'd rather get some competent management that isn't impatient with making trades. If we are rebuilding, we need to be holding out for more draft picks. Giving away players for nothing isn't going to help this team rebuild when he need higher draft picks. Any bozo can ship off every player so that the team is so bad that we end up with a high first round draft pick, but we should be getting better picks back for a proper rebuild.

We're not trading future superstars..... In your fantasy world you might be able to trade nobody's and high cappers for first round picks, but in the real world, it's not happening. You just have a biased perception of what these players are worth.

Just a horrible development IMO

I can understand trading veteran players. But what was Burnie doing that was affecting the team's play negatively?

He's been there since Linden was a player. No idea how Linden decided to let him go. This will affect morale on the team.

Very sad. Best wishes to Mike Burnstein. congrats to him on a great career here in Van

There are many, many people that believe we didn't get enough in the majority of these trades. It's not just me.

Yes but a lot of sports medicine is contingent upon player honesty. "Does it hurt when I do this?" "How are you feeling today?"

I'm not too surprised when players come back early

Although patient/player feedback on pain is a component of a physical assessment, there is other clinical assessments and protocol that physicians adhere to. For instance, a disc prolapse would of been worked up with an MRI, repaired and re-scanned, but regardless based on clinical evidence the player/patient has a minimum 'off' time of typically 6 weeks, with evaluations at 2 and 4 weeks. Some patients/players may genuinely not experience 'pain' and or 'discomfort' at weeks 2 and 4 which is a positive sign but not a definite exclusion that healing or recovery is complete.

There may be player, staff, and personnel pressure to get the player back on the ice and hence why I think that responsibilities for the athletic trainer position is being shifted to a physician, who the Canucks Management may believe is perhaps by the virtue of his profession unwavering to just patient/player self report.

Having said that, there is always flexibility and not every protocol and guideline is followed - but as we have seen with the recent league wide standard in regards to conclusion concussion protocol, clinical evidence and recommendations becomes standardized as protocol versus just suggested 'best practice.'

8 Pages of commentary for a relieving trainer? Seriously? This team peaked 5 years ago and housecleaning of players previously deemed untouchable or essential to prior success has been in full swing for three seasons (Luongo, Schneider, Salo, Kesler, Bieksa, Lack, etc) plus the overhaul in management this week but this is worth eight pages of comments?!?

20 years ago Pavel Bure's knee injury was mismanaged by the Canucks training staff and it cost him half his career. Just saying...
