Corona is all fear pushed anyway. It kills a small percentage of us but it's no worse than pneumonia which we have lived with for centuries. Life goes on. Vegas is an obvious choice with all the hotels. Not sure why some of you are surprised by this.

If things keep trending the way thet have been there is a good chance Vancouver is the other host.  Time zone doesn't matter without fans in the stands. East conference games can still be played at 4 pt/7et.

My bet is both host cities are in the west with the case numbers back east. Also most American cities are a tire fire right now besides Vegas, havent heard of any protests or riots there. So its looking good for Vancouver.

We have lots of hotels and ice space, plus we could probably house a few teams at UBC and there's an NHL sized arena there as well.

They are looking to have the play-ins done in around 8 days.  That could be up to 26 games per hub  - 4 x 5 + the 6 games of the bye-teams.  They have to play 3 games per day to meet that schedule.

League preference is Toronto.  They don't want the home city to be stationed at home for equity reasons.  Vancouver and Vegas are both in the West.

the whole world is wrong

and you are right

world leaders mistakenly shut down the world

not sure how you manage to get a hat on the huge head of yours ?

They shut the world down on the side of caution but hindsight shows that it really isnt that deadly.

Germany has been playing soccer for months now. Italy just started, New Zealand is open for business.

Those countries have functioning health care systems.  The NHL seems to want to play in a country with 3rd world quality healthcare, a government that completely disregards human life, and massive social unrest.

The league is looking to completely isolate the players from the outside world.  They will be in quarantine and not allowed to go outside of the bubble.  No one else will be staying at their hotels, the restaurants will be exclusive to the NHL, the entertainment venues too.  They are trying to create an air right bubble.  People inside the bubble will also be regularly tested.

The protocols are going to be so strict that the league is worried about the psyche of the players.  They want to make sure that there are enough leisure activities and options for when they are not on the ice.  It's not easy to be cut off from the world for possibly up to 2.5 months.

Vegas is probably the most logical place to create that kind of bubble where they can seal off entire hotels.

It's probably safer to be in that bubble where everything is provided and there's no contact with the exterior. It's doubtful that any of the players that are already on the ice are following anything close to the NHL's protocol for phase 2.  Several players have already been on the ice earlier and are not joining phase 2.

Vegas players have apparently been skating together for 2 months now.  Gaudette has been on the ice for quite a while too - he found a rink with gym early in New Jersey.  Boeser went to South Dakota to attend a training camp and is skating at one Minnesota's suburban rinks with other NHLrs.  Sweden never went in lockdown. Practice facilities, restaurants, shops all remained open.  Players are practicing in groups and scrimmaging with puck battles and all.  There's no social distancing.  Likely no one is tested and those facilities are shared by others.

    * the cup.

Stanley doesn’t go to fluke teams.

If you hoist it it’s because you battled through 4 rounds of absolute physical and mental punishment. And in this case through long separations from friends and family.

Tell any hockey player that they didn’t win a “real” cup after that and they’ll slap you in your mouth. No disrespect.

Who said fluke.

The last month of regular season is what sets teams apart, and into position.

Feels like a mid Summer Camp Tournament.      *

All the favourites get byes and then enter the same format they would have. These teams typically coast at the end of the season anyways.

With a longer training camp, time to get 100% healthy, and time to strategize against each team they might play they’ll have an advantage.

As for the other teams they all have an even playing field. There’s really no excuses if you’re a contender. I would imagine the intensity will be every bit as good as it would have been down the stretch of the regular season.

Not sure why anyone would knock this version of the playoffs before they even start. Sure if the play ends up being poor or it’s obviously not the same level of intensity then go ahead and knock it. But knowing hockey players, if the cups on the line they will go all out. And it will be the Stanley cup playoffs not some “summer tournament”.

How about if they all get sick, during a pandemic that every Health Authority is claiming we should still be practicing social distancing and wearing a mask for.

.   ...Why knock it??

The players have been paid for the majority of their work this season .

This is about the NHL sacrificing players to cover the owners expenses, and to grab the premium money the league and franchises make during playoffs.

The players don’t need revenue sharing at this point.. the owners need revenue.

.. ironically the league and owners locked the players out over this stuff the last time.

... and the players wanted to continue.

Thats because after a full season and playoffs, the Leagues pockets were full.. they could afford to sit a season to strong arm the PA.

In my opinion the PA should be using this as leverage to gain more without feeling any guilt at all.

get over the romance of the game,  and you see what and who the business is actually about.

ps.. Deniro, know I appreciate this conversation..

I bet my left one that nobody is going to get any sicker than they normally would. Covid is liberal bs

It's happening whether you like it or not. Bring on the playoffs! Hopefully they come here as the other hub city.

Like I said in another post, Vegas has the ability to close off a tower for nhl which includes multiple restaurant nice pool.and feel like your not trapped in a hotel.  And this way you have control over people coming and going.  And if you look at 1918 pandemic it lasted.for almost three years with multiple waves.

At the end of the day you as a business (NHL &Players) need to make it work because October this isn't going away.

On a side note about billionaire, if all their businesses are not running at full steam they are losing money like all of us, yes they may have more money in their savings account but the jobs each NHL team creates is a lot (same for MLB, NBA, NFL)

Just shows how selfish you are..

Ive lost healthy family members over this.

How sick do people normally get with something highly contagious.. ?

yesterday Nevada reported 270 new cases over the day before.

its real numb chuck..  give your prejudice a gut check.

Bettman's failed logic bout Vegas being a hub city summed up:

Pros

lots of cheap hotels

Cons

Very hot makes for bad playoffs and terrible ice

Covid, they have lots of it there.

lack of on-ice training facilities.

Vegas really makes no sense, my guess is if there is another hub it will be in the east, may as well as put the other hub in Miami, Tampa or Carolina so the bad ice nd more groin ands spots hernias  will be a consistent theme.

Sorry for your losses.  Sadly, if people are still denying it I think the only thing that might make them open their eyes is losing a family member of their own.

Vegas has the newest arena with all the latest technology to produce ice.  The players had them in their top-4 for best ice.  Vegas lives on air conditioning.

They have several sheets of ice year long.   The NHL won't use all because they don't want to share.

As part of the bid they will set up 2 sheets of NHL ice at that will be exclusive to the NHL - hotels over there have hosted games so they have the structure.  The Golden Knights have 2 sheets at their practice facility.  That would be 4 total.

The play-ins are expected to last only about 8 days.  Training camp isn't being held in Vegas.  Once those games are over they are down to 8 teams with 4 sheets of ice.

One of the losses was a cousin in Britain..

Johnny was a lifetime SAS commando , the health of a tiger..  recently turned 60 ,  before he passed he could perhaps recall picking this up on a ski trip in Norway.

He said it was something that would just not let go.. he passed last month.

its so easy if we’re healthy to not realize what a virus is, what it can do, and how it is capable of surviving and mutating into something else.

There is this “Millennial Mentality” that deserves to experience first hand what they are ignorant to.

Too many are guilty of conspiring their free thought process and become experts they are not.  Blind to sensitivity, numb to sight,. their egos balloon until something real taps them on the shoulder.

To them ,  life is a “call of duty” game, hit the reset button and your back in at the same level.
