    I just noticed that Andrej Palat was the fourth LAST player taken in his draft year. It amazes me when you look at his draft year numbers the guy fell to almost being undrafted. Perhaps he was tiny and grew? What a steal! http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2011e.html

      To be fair, Palat was playing in the CR his draft year. He did put up better numbers than Jasek in their draft years, who we took in the fifth round, but Palat was well under a PPG in his D+1 year in the Q and didn't really "explode" til his D+2 season. Even then, his output wasn't amazing for a 20 year old in the Q.

      Just to clarify, he was drafted as a 20 year old and, yes, that year he was playing in the Q.  When he was 18 and first draft eligible he was playing in the Czech Republic.

    Most people here are probably too young to remember the gong show, but we need a gong for people who need to be gonged on this site. Perhaps someone can make an id called Captain Numpty and when he come's in and say "ay ay goodby" it means you been numptied and end of discussion.

      Then about 10 yrs ago(here in Japan), saw some George Clooney pic(title?), where they show how that Barris guy was linked to CIA/spy ops, & a nasty killer. Was interesting.

      Basically what happened is Shipachyov missed the deadline to file for contract termination. Ultimately he ended up at SKA's training camp. After December, he can buy out his own contract and become a free agent. Until then, his hands are tied.

      It also seems likely that SKA will match any offer given by an NHL team. They are very high on him.

    Anyone else notice Manny Malhotra in the Fishing for Kids pic on the front page of Canucks.com (with Dorset, Kirk, Sven, Benning, and Willie). I wonder if they are bringing him as an assistant coach to help the young guys on faceoffs, defensive play etc (or maybe a PTO!?)

      He's done playing he said in an interview he wants to get into coaching. He wants to ideally stay clise ot Vancouver and work there as his home base if possible. Sounds like an advisor/player development coach role. Could teach guys all the forwards how to play defensive hockey win faceofs block shots pk and be a good teammate.

      I'd hire him as a faceoff/penalty kill(special teams) consultant.  Even hire him as an assistant coach for Utica since Jerrard left.  Groom Green, Baumer and Manny to become the next gen of coaching for the team.

       

      Stick guys like Horvat, Virtanen, Baertschi under his wing.
