    If 'fancy stats' / hockey analytics are truly useful, why didn't anyone predict how well Vegas would do?

      both good points gents, but it does bother me a lot when the analytics folks throw players under the bus, often in really nasty ways (did anyone order a Sbisa?). If you have that kind of confidence/arrogance then you'd think someone like Travis Yost would have been making this prediction well before Vegas was a lock for the playoffs.

      I've watched enough hockey to realize that there are things that don't hit the score sheet, not even the analytics. Things like the leadership of the twins, the thought of knowing you're defended by your big teammate, the camaraderie of a team, the respect players have for a coach, etc.
