    If 'fancy stats' / hockey analytics are truly useful, why didn't anyone predict how well Vegas would do?

      There's more to hockey performance analysis than fancy stats. They're useful, but they're not all there is. There are unquantifiable factors to consider as well.

      All the fancy stats could not predict MAF having the comeback year for the ages.  A goalie playing at his level can literally carry a team.
