  1. Green didn't trust his team.

Green wasn't even a great AHL coach, most of his success was had on the back of Markstrom. That Utica run to the final was on Markstrom, though you've gotta credit the other players too.

Maybe he'd have done better with experienced NHL veteran assistants as opposed to a Baumgartner. Realistically if he wants another sniff at a head coaching gig he's gonna have to do his time as an assistant somewhere. But it's more likely he'll have to plug away at the AHL level.

I still find it strange him and Benning disappeared into the night without so much as a peep. But at the same time I get it.

@Coconuts I think them disappearing with a peep was totally understandable. What's the point of saying something?

I think it's sad that Benning's teams have generally been slagged as "poorly constructed", but that glosses over how poorly coached the teams were. It makes you wonder if Jake Virtanen would've flourished under a different coach (Jake's entire career was under the same coach - Green).

I agree, but I still find it odd.

Yeah, Green's incompetency raises questions regarding a lot of the players we've had over the last 4-5 years. What do we have in Rathbone? Brisebois? What could we have had in Juolevi or Virtanen? Gaudette? Schmidt? Holtby? It's no coincidence the latter two went on to have success elsewhere. We sure could use a Schmidt right now.

Benning made his mistakes, but not everything was a mistake. Green certainly was though, he tied his wagon to the wrong horse.
