  1. Maybe we should just claim near PPG AHL star Joulevi when he is back on waivers next time.
  2. They don’t exist much like Unicorns. Would be nice if both existed but they don’t.
  3. Certainly a BOLD take. Way too early to write him off, but regardless I think we needed to try to bolster the D with Bichsel or Pickering.
  4. I just have a feeling that this will work out for both. Galchenyuk on a low cost contract in a good environment could very well succeed.
  5. Assuming Stralman has declined enough that Burroughs fills that need for us now. No need to claim.
  6. Depending on the cost maybe we can give Fabbro a try but I wouldn’t move significant assets for him. Maybe just a swap with a redundant forward like Garland to give us some cap flexibility and add more NHL level depth to RD. -OEL and Bear make a great 2nd pair -Myers is a good D man but not a fit on this team. Move him to somewhere that fits better -Pair Schenn with Rathbone on the 3rd pair so Rathbone has a good mentor to actually develop with, otherwise the pattern continues. So maybe Fabbro paired with Hughes allows the other things to happen while we look for a true 1st pair RD but only if it’s a low cost swap with a winger. Ultimately not an ideal fit.
  7. Rathbone needs Schenn which means Hughes needs a legit RD partner for top pairing mins.
  8. Jerseys are great, but they needed to stick with the bear logo they had, which I actually like a lot. That one is well.....uh.....not sure what to say......
  9. IR: Calgary Flames place Nik Ehlers on IR: https://www.tsn.ca/nikolaj-ehlers-winnipeg-jets-injured-reserve-1.1866067 Recall nobody @Nail
  10. Hughes and OEL are decent, but definitely both need that Schenn-esque stay at home D pair as they are more focused on offence. Rathbone is even further on the offensive side, and he should have Schenn himself paired with him. Our lack of two defensive RD's is blocking the opportunity for Schenn to compliment and mentor Rathbone. Our overall balance is way off.
  11. Either a team has injuries and is desperate enough to trade for Myers and figure out details in the offseason, or we move him next year with heavy retention to gain maximum value. He could be a good trade chip in the offseason.
  12. We just need to stop fooling around and just make the Sedin's the co-GMs.
  13. I know people feel a bit burned by us moving picks, but if we do it for this type of specific need (Young two way RD) I think it has a lot more value that who we would find in the 3rd round. Moving picks for 27-35 year old players should be avoided, but this could make sense.
  14. I firmly believe that CBJ is one of the only targets we could offload Miller to. It's the unique situation where the contract is likely a major selling point for them so they have security. Not everyone is rushing to sign in Columbus similar to Hockey Guad. It's almost too perfect for both sides if we get Voracek and Ceulemans in return. They get Miller who can play some C to give them the depth they need to compliment their star wingers. We get Voracek to match the cap but on a shorter term and allows us to do the flip we should have with Miller for a few decent assets next year. We get our key prize in Ceulemans who can be one of the top 4 RDs of the future for us. CBJ has a lot of depth in this area This feels like one of the rare deals that works perfectly for both teams. I'm happy to start making the calls if the GMs don't want to.
  15. I think Stevie Y would fleece Allvin too, and I don't think Detroit is ready to take that next step quite yet. I would want to target Rasmussen, Edvinsson and Cossa for Horvat and Demko, however like I said, I don't think Detroit is turning that corner yet, unless they need to to retain Larkin and others.
  16. Wonder what it would take to snag Conor Timmins. He was a highly regarded two way RD, but has a recent injury history. Could be someone who evolves with our hopeful new core.
  17. We keep avoiding giving our prospects any time to develop and improve. We put them into the NHL after they dominate the AHL and then we bench them and don't allow them to improve. We need to retool/rebuild and give these guys a true chance to develop. The problem we have is we haven't balanced out the D with proper complimentary defensive D like Schenn. Rathbone has shown to be pretty dynamic offensively, and obviously has some things to work on but I don't think 6 games gives us enough to cast him out.
  18. I wonder if we re-approach NYR with Bo instead of Miller. Would a Lafreniere + Schneider for Horvat + Schenn meet the needs of both teams. Lafreniere and Schneider have struggled but obviously both have strong potential. NY is in win now mode so this gives them immediate upgrade, with Bo likely also signing long term.
  19. We are due for it. I hope we take a step back and get prospect depth for our core trade pieces. Mentioned in another thread that I’d like to see Bo moved in a package that includes Morrow ++, Miller moved in a package that includes Cuelemans + and Demko moved in a package for Clarke. Obviously the last one would be close to 1-1 but the others would include many more pieces come to us. An RD of Clarke, Morrow, Cuelemans, Bear would be a game changer for us. The benefit of those targets are that they meet the need but are also with teams that have very strong RD depth. Just ready for the first show to drop to show that they are heading in that direction.
  20. Agree on the retool/rebuild. My focus would be on the following to rebuild the D for good: -Horvat for to CAR for Kotkaniemi, Morrow -Miller to CBJ for Voracek*, Cuelemans, 2nd -Demko to LA for Peterson (Negative value), Clarke -Myers retained for picks -Pearson retained for picks *Voracek gets flipped next year. In the next year or so if the D prospects are ready we’d have the following: Kuzmenko Pettersson Mikhayev - (This line is our future) Garland Kotkaniemi Voracek (Traded as contract expires) Podkolzin Lazar Boeser Hoglander Aman Joshua Studnicka Hughes Clarke OEL Morrow Rathbone Cuelemans Dermott Bear Still work to do but so many more pieces to work with including 3 potential top 4RD. Easy to add where we have gaps.
  21. If we were to retain 2M per year, Myers at 4 per is likely very attractive to teams. If we are rebuilding the defence and essentially Bear is Myers replacement for now, I think we can do retention to get something decent in return.
  22. I lean towards trade both and as part of it acquire a potential 2C and draft picks that could be used there too. Can also sign a 2C in Free Agency as a short term gap if needed. Aim to have Studnicka, Aman, Karlsson all battle it out for 3C. We need to take some steps back for sure.
  23. Actually thinking about this a bit more, they have a weird goalie situation for their timeline. Quick is old and near the end and for whatever reason they signed Petersen for 5M with 3 more years remaining. With the cap match for LA, then may really see a benefit for Demko for their timeline and we take Petersen to match cap and be a tandem with Martin. Obviously a major step back for us, so maybe we can pry Clarke or a few key prospects/picks out of them for that swap.
  24. If he could play RD (Which I think he was in LA), then he could just be a Schenn like defensive guy for Rathbone. Just a mentor so we can actually bring some of our own young D into the fold. Hughes Schenn OEL Bear Rathbone Edler D Core to finish off the year with Clarke waiting in the wings to replace Schenn next year. Either Schenn or Edler as a mentor for the 3rd pair next year.
  25. Okay, I knew the Leafs were desperate, but I didn't realize it was this bad: On the plus side, they get an entire D core for the price of OEL.
