  1. Post of the whole thread. If fans are tired of the status quo (and they are) we should direct our anger and apathy towards Francisco. After all he made Linden quit on this team, has been chasing that elusive cup run ever since we lost in the finals in 2011. 3 different management regimes later we are still cutting shortcuts and trading our precious draft picks for other teams castoffs and sloppy seconds. All in the hopes of papa Luigi sees a cup before he passes. But by trying this insane broken method time and time again, he won’t be bringing a cup to his old man. Not unless he does it the right way. The way we have seen Chicago, Pittsburgh,LA, Washington, and soon New Jersey Detroit and NYR are doing right now. Rebuilds work the proof and body of work is there. Taking shortcuts and taking has-been prospects that teams give up on is absolutely insane and just proves how impatient/incompetent this direction plan is. Let me ask anyone who actually likes this plan with this question. Say we find a few diamonds in the rough that are no longer on their ELC but have a great year with the Canuck’s but now we have to “pay up” with a new hefty contract? We would be in another Kuzmenko situation where we don’t have the space to keep them. That’s the luxury of ELC’s is that you have cost control with them. So tell me why draft picks are bad? Because we don’t have the patience of development for 1-5 years? Good grief what’s wrong with that when we won’t be a contender until around that time anyways. My question to you with regards to getting the aquilini groups attention and putting the pressure on Francisco. How? He turned off the comments on his twitter, he I’m sure hears some of the noise but is too stubborn to listen to the fans. How do we get to a proximity where it will make a difference, other then just not show up to games. As a season ticket holder I’ve asked my rep(who never responds to my calls on ownerships direction) it’s like they know this shit smells but doesn’t care to acknowledge or respect the fans enough to answer to them. That’s where I’m at. Would love to get together with a group of STH’s and hold this owner accountable. That or start ignoring this team until they finally figure it out. No time no money no support seems to be the only way out at this point. And that’s a tragic reality because I love this team, but this relationship is toxic now, ownership has slowly made me hate this team. Lastly I agree wholeheartedly with all of your post but the first part about being critical while others tried to gatekeep our concerns and choices of this team the last 10 years. There’s no need for certain fans to belittle or chastise others for calling out the team for having such a pathetic low bar of standards. We all want to see this team win a bloody cup before we are all dead, what’s wrong with calling out for accountability and a long term plan. Something this franchise hasn’t had in years! Keep fighting the good fight with your posts. We all want to see this club lift that silver mug, but we can all agree this “refool on the fly” plan isn’t fooling anyone anymore.
  2. I think we found Aquilini’s CDC account. Yes Frankie just keep spending to the cap and run it back, one of these days we will get in the playoffs and anything can happen. It’ll be great, two weeks of being relevant and getting 2 home games of gate revenue. All worth the 10+++ years of mediocrity. But it’s his team, his direction. That said just wait for the aftermath. Season ticket sales are going to plummet and the value of the club will deteriorate even worse then it has the past decade. Fans here are loyal and have plenty of hockey knowledge. Don’t get confused loyalty with blind stupidity. The gig is up and most fans aren’t buying what this ownership is selling and that’s the bottom line.
  3. Nope because the guy who is calling the shots is still here. It’s not Bennings plan, it’s not Rutherford’s plan. It’s blueberry slumlord billionaire’s plan. But remember that quote though, Owners own,Managers manage,Coaches coach and players play…
  4. Same shit different pile. It’s a delusional and insane mindset to keep trying to do the same thing over and over and over again. I guess the rumors of Francisco of wanting to win a cup for his papa Luigi are indeed true. Ironically by being so stubborn, his dad is going to die without seeing a cup win in this city because of Frankie’s impatience. A fate/fear that most fans here might also share with Luigi. Why does this franchise hate draft picks? Is it that Judd Bracket is gone and our scouting isn’t what it once was? Or is it that draft picks don’t sell seats or they take 2-5 years to make a meaningful impact (if at all)? This team is allergic to them yet it’s the only way we can start getting out of this mess. But we continue to refuse with this route. Instead let’s go after other teams misfits/castoffs/busts because that’s how you build a cup winner right?
  5. Except we were never rebuilding in the first place. We were told it was a “retool on the fly” Rebuilding teams accumulate draft capital, not dispose it. How many 1sts, 2nds and 3rds did we trade for quick fixes during the previous regime? How many did we accumulate as that’s what rebuilding teams do? Let’s get one thing clear here. Trevor Linden wanted to do a rebuild. Jim Benning and Aquilini wanted to be “competitive” Trevor is no longer a part of this organization because of the difference in direction we went with. When the Sedin’s retired we should’ve gone with TL’s plan because we probably would’ve been coming out of it around this time. Instead we are still trying to be “competitive” and “retooling on the fly”. Perhaps it’s time to actually rebuild, not what we are perpetually doing now which is absolutely no man’s land in the mushy mediocre middle.
  6. What’s the common denominator from this management and the previous? Doesn’t matter who we hire if the mandate/direction remains the same for the last 10 years. The chairman of the franchise isn’t fooling anyone anymore. But he likes to believe this fan base is dense. Loyalty doesn’t equate to stupidity FA.
  7. He’s really good at that. The Rick Tocchet hiring will be another shortcut decision that tries to mask what the real problem is. Just keep ignoring the real issues Franky. Get your coach bump, don’t trade Bo because we will be 4-8 points out of a wild card spot and then just miss, finishing 13th. Yup we’ve all been here before but this year will be different right?
  8. Spot on Ghost. It’s such a bleak and hopeless time to be a fan. We all see the writing on the wall but our ownership is so bloody stubborn he refuses to do what we all see what needs to be done. I’ll always cheer for this team and have the best of intentions but I’ll tell you it’s so hard to find bright spots or silver linings. I can absolutely get behind your post. I can’t get behind whatever this front office and ownership is selling. It’s headstrong stubbornness/delusional way of running this franchise and it needs to pivot. We all see it yet here we go again! March of the Penguins contingent from Pittsburg to Vancouver isn’t fooling anybody anymore.
  9. Because all this team needs is a Rick Tocchet coach bump and we will all be good right? Right? Does anyone else feel like a patronized fan/fan base? They think we will all be good with a coaching change?
  10. Alvin needs to come out and face the music after this road trip and give the fans/media what the direction is going to be. Aside from being on after hours a month ago. There has been little transparency and leadership. You are the GM, lay out your blueprint. Also he says “we will keep building this team brick by brick” WTF these bricks is he talking about? Last time I checked you build with draft picks and we have yet to accumulate those, instead trading a 5th and 2nd. From a clear message from ownership, to management there is plenty of blame to go around. Fans are at the point of being apathetic. For all the executive hires, there doesn’t seem to be anyone that wants to step up and be a leader and lay out a proper long term plan and that’s wild for a multimillion dollar franchise.
  11. Love Burkie and would love to have him back. Speaks his mind and doesn’t give a f**k what the media thinks. He’s not wrong either.
  12. I finished watching Kaleidoscope and I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if the sequence of episodes wasn’t in the order that it was randomized. Nothing super special but had its moments.
  13. Pretty sure the Pens get their revenge game after we beat them back in October. And that’s just fine at this point.
  14. At some point our owner has has to go the route of what Pizza the Hutt in space balls did (he’s a slumlord too and FA owns all the pizza huts in the lower mainland!) I won’t spoil that part of the movie for you Alf but if it happened I don’t think anyone would be too upset.
  15. JR’s resume looks great on paper. I’d say those organizations he was on allowed JR to do the hard work and hockey moves needed to get those three cups. We’ve had a whole calendar year with this management and it feels the same as the last one. At some point our management has to start making those difficult hockey moves. It starts with Bo.
  16. This thread is ridiculous. Out of all the contracts we have Garland being bought out is just stupid. I see Ricks had too many crown and cokes again. His doctor told him years ago to stop. It’s showing with this lazy “report”
  17. You are correct Stawns that this is his team and he can do what he wants with it. I however I’d argue that that it’s been one of the worse era’s in the franchise’s history. The 70’s & 80’s were putrid. Messier era was horrible too but at least there was hope with high picks and prospects that build our WCE and Sedin era teams. We traded our captain (yes Linden’s Captaincy was stripped but he was always capt Canuck over Messier) and it looks like we are going to have to trade our captain again. But we are going to lose Bo for a lack of foresight and methodical long term plan. It might not be the worse but it’s close. •No prospect pipeline other than a few. •Capped out with not a lot of relief in sight. • We are losing our Captain because FA wanted to keep Miller and now can’t afford him. • The chance of Petterson going elsewhere after next year because of the no plan, plan. It’s a pretty dark era with the exception of the bubble which is now looking smoke and mirrors after losing key pieces on defense that we haven’t replaced. At the end of the day it’s FA’s team to do with what he wants. But for myself as a season ticket holder for 5 years I’m done financially supporting that man. Doesn’t mean I’ll stop cheering for the best intentions for this team. At the end of the day we all want to see that silver mug hoisted in VanCity. Just a pity that Bo won’t be the one to hoist it for us
  18. Some fans just don’t want to believe that there has been meddling and that’s fine, each to their own. But you look at the past 9 years (I guess it’ll be a decade come April) and you have enough of a history that tells the story. Sure having a chairman of a franchise who spends to the cap is great. That said we are in this mess because of being reckless with the cap space and cutting shortcuts. Fans are fed up with the no direction no plan other then make the playoffs and “anything can happen” in his words. From this article right here as https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/569255 Some fans won’t accept it anymore and others choose not to accept it’s happening. We are all cheering for the same team and we have our thoughts and opinions. That’s why I love it here. Not everyone is going to see it as meddling but I agree with you.
  19. I thought so, much like we didn’t trade Schniderman to Edmonton, a divisional rival. The price would have to be massive but you don’t do that trade with the risk of your former captain burning you in your own turf for the rest of his career. Elliot loves to stir up Canuck nation. Absolutely loves it!
  20. Did Elliot really say that Seattle is making a pitch for a Horvat trade? Hard pass to trade our captain to a division rival. Can’t see it happening but what a bleak day if it did.
