  1. Alright guys and girls it’s our moment. I’m going to say Moore or Wallander. Possible mentions Benson and Barlow
  2. Not to mention the massive raise in the cap the following off season as well. More palatable for a team to take a rebounding OEL. As you mentioned knocking off two buyout years as well. I get it that we have the 7.1 in cap space to play with which is why we made the move this season. But reasons you mentioned it would be another avenue to wait a year to see if there’s better value to unload him. But we digress
  3. We see now that Barbie got re-upped for 5X5 before stupid season begins. Good smart & tidy business that Vegas took care of.
  4. Exactly all the top 6 players I would be stoked if we pick one of them. LFG!
  5. Now only 5 OG members left from that original expansion team. (McNabb, Theodore,Carrier,Karlsson and Marchessault) are the remaining five.
  6. Hoping Allvin turns off his phone after the draft and waits things out with the precious cap space we do have to negotiate deals with teams that overspent this free agent window. Cap space is king Fing kong and we can’t f**k this up with how we spend on it. Hopefully not another LE 6X6 or TM 6X5 or Poolman 2.5X4 free agent specials. Enjoy the sun Patrik, the schedule is out and after Friday turn off the phone, decompress, namaste.
  7. That would be ideal. We have 3rds and 4ths to spare to make it happen.
  8. Good to hear Pear is rehabbing his wrist and is gunning for training camp. Hopeful he can finish his last year on his deal on his terms
  9. Sounds like Myers is sticking around for at least the beginning of the season as PA says he expects him to be a part of the team. Of course “part of the team” could imply part of a trade?
  10. “OEL was not the right fit for the team”-Patrik Allvin Thank you 2021 “aggressive” summer of Jim Benning
  11. They also have the pressure to win now as JR & PA’s deals expire after this year. It’s been absolutely by design that Aquilini gives 3 years of term to management to “turn things around quickly” which is the same situation Benning was in two years ago making the OEL deal. It’s a pressure point to get instant results (playoffs) or you’re fired and FA will get the next guy who can tell him they can turn this around quickly. Hence the reckless spending of cap, and short sighted moves, with annual high draft capital used up. Rinse, repeat.
  12. You guys are crazy! There is absolutely no proof at all that ownership meddles and dictates the direction/plan of the team. I wish there were pictures around that are worth a thousand words that can back these horrible claims… “Every step you take, I’ll be watching you”
  13. Could we use the 7.1 million in cap space we gained to help on the last practice facility to be built in the NHL? I’m joking of course. But being last team to have a practice facility is a joke and we shouldn’t be in this position. If we are going to be true to the preaching to come into town before training camp, get into tip top shape, and have a solid start for the first time in awhile. Players talk amongst each other, I’m sure it’s not a good look for our guys to have to drive to Burnaby with their gear or drive to UBC for practice. Do I know how much real estate is in the downtown core to build a brand new practice facility in Vancouver these days? It’s expensive but if it’s a resource that every team has now other than us. That’s up to the owner the ball is in his court.
  14. Yup while the misdirected anger goes to Benning. The counter argument that justifies Ownership’s reckless spending to the cap and short sighted vision of “just” making the playoffs is that “if he sells the team, we won’t have a team at all” which isn’t true. You would need a owner with deep pockets to buy the team and arena which would be costly but to say it’s Aquilini or no franchise in Vancouver is ludicrous. NHL will always have a place for this market and the fans that enable this owners short sighted vision are the problem. Nothing will change until it hits FA in the wallet.
  15. Funny how the moves seem so similar. Rash/knee jerking moves to get in because our owner is impatient and wants to win a cup for his papa before he’s dead. Only that this is compounding the problems we’ve had the last 10 years with our cap, roster construction and bleeding high draft picks like a SC contender would. I have to give you credit Alf. You called this. The most desperate move management had to go with (PA said he doesn’t want to do buyouts but he did) JR and PA’s contracts end at the end of the 2023/2024 season so they HAVE to make the playoffs or they are gone like Benning. As you know our owner will not accept anything but playoffs. Giving the FO only 3 year contracts every management group is by design and how our owner rolls. Gives them no 5+ year plan to rebuild as the story goes with Gillis and Linden. Benning was a yes man and had no spine but to do FA’s orders to make moves like this OEL one to make the playoffs. Repeating history time and time again. Just wait until free agency when we splooge all our cap space we just got. but you called it Alf. I need to borrow that crystal ball of yours sometime.
  16. So the trade goes: Vancouver gets: Garland Plus 8 years of OEL buyout $19Million dead cap $2,416,667 Annually but cap hit is $146,667 2024. 2025 $2,346,667 then the two years after at $4,766,667and then the final 4 years is a cap hit of $2,126,667. Arizona gets: LE-off the books Rooster-off the books Beagle-off the books 9th OA 2021-Dylan Guenther 42nd OA 2022-Artem Duda 2023 7th We literally love having dead cap on our books. This trade and the Dickinson trades are exactly why we are, where we are. If you had one word to describe this team the last decade would be MID
  17. Just like when Benning made the deal in the first place to ensure his job security was safe. It didn’t work out. JR and PA’s contracts end at the end of the year (FA special giving short term for FO executives for win now results) so the pressure was always on this season as playoffs or bust. Futures and cap space be damned this trade as a whole is the epitome of irrational short term moves that have us where we are for the last decade. It’s all about making the playoffs for ownership to reward mgmt new deals.
  18. 100% if I’m Petey I’m thinking at my options or going right up to FA and ask him flat out what the f**king plan is. He’s not sticking around for anymore of this gongshow shit f**k!
  19. So the trade goes: Vancouver gets: Garland Plus 8 years of OEL buyout $2,126,667 per year. Arizona gets LE-off the books Rooster-off the books Beagle-off the books 9th OA 2021-Dylan Guenther 42nd OA 2022-Artem Duda 2023 7th With aggressive moves like this I’m sure we are selling the idea for Petey signing up long term.
  20. You are absolutely correct. It doesn’t matter what fans like you or I think or want. It’s the owners team and direction in how long or quick he wants to give his teams competitive window. If he thinks we are a retool away that’s where we are headed. I accept it, but there are two factors I won’t accept going this route. 1. I won’t ever turn my full loyalties to another team no matter how mediocre/piss poor or bleak the outlook of the team is. This is the team I grew up watching and loving. While it’s toxic and out of my control at times, I will never pledge my allegiance to anyone else. I like Seattle sports teams and happy for the Kraken but in no way am I ever cheering for them to win a cup over the Canucks. I’m bleeding blue and green until the bitter end. 2. I vowed after last season that I would no longer be a season ticket holder of two seats (after 5 seasons) until ownership accepted a rebuild. It’s the big reason why I became a season ticket holder after the 2017 season when the twins retired. Silly me thinking, they have to rebuild after the Sedins are gone they need a new core. After Petterson Hughes and Podz was drafted it was looking pretty good, then came round 3 of the 2019 draft in Vancouver where we made the Miller trade. While it has turned out to be a good move adding a core piece. However it was a move that didn’t make sense with our competitive window. That was a “go for it” move as was the OEL trade as was the Hronek trade. Making these knee jerk “win now” moves before we have a steady pool of prospects, cap space and depth to make those moves. So while I will not pay a dime towards this ownership after I have spent thousands of dollars for false hope and impatient roster construction. I will keep watching the games and hoping that it is my jaded and broken outlook of the team that’s the issue. I am happy to eat crow if it means we won a cup this way but I haven’t seen it working here or any case study around the league that proves retool results over rebuilds prevail. It might come across as gloom speaking but the results show for itself that to win you need depth and to have depth you can’t be consistently retooling. I am getting close to your opinion and @bishopshodanthat we just might never see this club win a cup while FA owns the team. And like you I can never change my alliance to anyone else, I would quit watching the sport before I turncoat. It is what it is, I’m using my disposable income in other ways for my happiness and will just watch and enjoy the ride. It’ll make me less of a wet blanket on here and more of a chill towelie. Thanks for the detailed response and we are all Canucks after all.
  21. great post and I agree completely with your take that our plan is not a cohesive long build plan but a impatient and irrational one for instant playoff success but not championship success. Trevor Linden wanted to build this team that you are speaking about. Being patient, building up the farm, drafting D (which take years to develop) but Francisco and Jim said no to the (R)ebuild and went with another (R)etool on the fly. The same words that JR echoed on after hours after the 5-1 buffalo home opener last year. The management/front office might have made big changes. But the mandate/direction/plan of this team remains the same. I’m happy that Canuck fans like you, @ronthecivil @DrJockitch and a few others have a realistic sense of where we are as an organization and how far away we really are. Nobody is happy with how the team has been the last 8-10 years but to be impatient now to force something that will just prolong the pain isn’t the way to go. Not every rebuild works but when you look at other teams competitive cycles pass us (LA,DET,BUF) the results are better then whatever a retool does for a franchise. We all have a unstoppable love for this team and our opinions might not always agree but the end goal for us all will always remain.
  22. Tocchet was glowing about their big and mobile D-corps as well. We have some work to do if we want to replicate that type of D. I’m all for it and tired of not having a mean unit protecting Demko’s crease.
