  1. It's funny, I just read through all the JT Miller posts, and a common theme was people saying how having Miller on the team should help motivate Virtanen to play a more a physical game. Now everyone's saying the same thing in response to signing Ferland (including Benning)! I'm can't say for sure, but I'd be willing to bet that more than one CDC poster said the same thing when we signed Roussell. I really don't think it bodes well for a player being ever being consistently physical when the first thing people think when we acquire a player who really does play with some edge is that maybe he'll be the one to motivate Virtanen to play a physical game!
  2. No kidding...what player has ever not said something to the effect of "My coach and I don't agree on things 100%" (except maybe Keenan & Messier).
  3. And I'm sure that he's only getting yet another chance because Benning hasn't received any offers of any value in trade for him. You can completely see that he is not a Green type of player, and if Benning could ever get something of decent value for him, he'd ship him outta here in a heartbeat!
  4. I totally agree. You'd also have to think that any team actually wanting to take Eriksson in a deal where the Canucks retain part of the salary would have already suggested this to Benning. It's not like other teams didn't know that the Canucks would be more than happy to unload him. His agent won't be telling the rest of the NHL anything they didn't already know, but best of luck to him nonetheless!
  5. At 226 lbs, with his speed, Jake should be one of the deadliest hitters in the league. It's a lethal weapon that he should be able to use more for his team's benefit. The thing that keeps him from doing it as much as he should is the fact that it upsets the other teams' tough guys and they want to fight him, which is not part of his nature. Hopefully, aside from being shamed into hitting more, all the hitting that the other players will be doing on this team will be enough to whip him into a frenzy so that he just hits and doesn't worry about the repercussions. This is what happens every year in the playoffs, even to some of the meekest players, and is why I really hope they keep Jake around long enough to see him in at least one playoff season (not to mention Tryamkin in the future)!
  6. I'm pretty sure -- or at least I'm hoping -- that if Virtanen is sitting on the bench watching Ferland & Miller using their bodies to crush opponets on a regular basis, that he's going to be shamed into starting to do more of this himself. Especially considering that he's even heavier and probably even faster than either of them.
  7. Eklund says: "Edmonton, after it pays Milan Lucic his $3M bonus July 17 may have found a trade partner to see the winger gone from the Oilers." Now we know when we're getting him!!
  8. But which of the potential 4th line forwards would you be sitting out to let that happen? Motte,Beagle,Roussell, Virtanen, MacEwan? You'd have to consider that and I don't know why you would have him playing out of position on the 4th line rather than having any of them playing there.
  9. Way, way too many CDC posters don't understand that it takes more than players with good offensive skills to make a strong team. A real team has strong players at every role, including good faceoff men, defensive players, and at least one or two willing pugilists. A team that has only high-scoring finesse players is doomed to failure when the playoffs begin -- we've just got way too many posters who don't understand that!
  10. None of our prospects with pro European contracts were there. My guess would be that they're not allowed to attend.
  11. But this is also the Canucks we're talking about. That pretty much guarantees someone is going to sign Myers away from us at the last minute.
  12. Maybe try looking at his website. It's called hockeybuzz.com.
  13. Just when everyone in Vancouver is getting ecstatic about Benning closing on a better than expected deal with Myers, Eklund is reporting that another team has stepped in to steal him away at the last minute!
  14. I don't think it's any coincidence that once the Canucks acquired Miller, all rumors of them going after a UFA power forward stopped. Miller is our younger, cost-controlled alternative to Lee, Ferland, Simmonds, etc. We'll just have to wait and see if the 1st round pick cost was a better option than the cap space we would have lost if we signed one of these guys. I think alot will depend on whether the Canucks are willing and able to sign Miller to a reasonable extension before he eventually becomes a UFA himself.
  15. These might be hard to find!
  16. Sorry, but as much as I would love to have the Canucks sign Lee, I'd have to say that once they traded assets for Miller on draft day, that dream evaporated. The cap space they have left they will now have to devote to D-men and maybe a slightly lower-priced, skilled forward to complement Horvat and Pearson. This would be why we're now hearing whispers of the Canucks being interested in Nyquist, if they could still even afford his asking price.
  17. Problem is, he is very likely going to demand and get some form of NMC. That, combined with the term and $ value of his contract, would probably make him just as hard as Eriksson to move later on. That being said, without having to give up any more high draft picks or top prospects, I do think signing him is our best option for upgrading our RHD and finding a fitting partner for Hughes.
  18. And give up another first round pick? I think the trade ship sailed when he acquired Miller.
  19. Adam McQuaid would give us the size and physicality we need on defence, in addition to being one of the few RHD available. He's not at the level of some of the other UFA D talked about here, but should at least be cheaper. He's still only 32 years old if I remember correctly too.
  20. I don't get why all the talk since Benning's interview, even from his agent, has been about signing Tryamkin a year from now and having him come in the following training camp. Why can't we sign him at the end of his KHL season next April or March, then if we do happen to qualify for the playoffs, have him available to play then? That's where he's going to do the most damage and be the most helpful to this team by far! BTW, this is also why, if there's any choice between signing Gardiner and Myers this summer, it's gotta be Myers. Our D is already too small and way too soft as it is. Myers may not be overly physical, but he's got great size and can play physical enough. We just don't need another softie taking up a long-term spot on D. Because if we don't resign Schenn this summer, we'll have almost nothing for size and physicality on D!
  21. The Canucks signed Drew Shore when his season ended in Europe in March 2017. He had to clear waivers first before he could join them. Would this not be the case for Tryamkin too, if he joined the Canucks after his 2020 KHL ended? If so, there wouldn't be much hope of having him clear!
  22. Burns....Brent Burns and his biggish beard burns my bacon, but good!!
  23. If the Canucks sign him and bring him in after his KHL season ends next year, does he have to clear waivers to play? If so, that could be roadblock to bringing him in at that time.
  24. It wasn't people who said that Schaller had a poor season, it was Travis Green. And he said this by not playing him for the majority of the season, even sometimes when he had no other option but to call up another forward from Utica. This was until the last few games of the season, when Green suddenly seemed to see something in Schaller's play that he liked.
  25. It means he's playing behind a stacked team.
