  1. The best player can be subjective, Dahlin is only 18 and played on a bad team and he did exceptionally good, Elias was older and got preferred starts. One player got more points and productivity. So far and most likely Elias will be the cream of the crop but if that many kudos are given out for a success then the same should be considered if it is a failure if not more as one failure of a top draft pick affects the team for years. The failure of Olli Juiloevi and partial failure of Jake Virtanen to play up to their draft pick status are huge mistakes by the club costing years for recovery if that happens, if they keep on this way the team will need to rebuild again in 3 years trying to get the players closer in age. 5 years have passed and the gap between the good players is opening, the trick is to have most of them within 5 years of each other. A success of a pick ranked in the top eight should be accepted as standard fare, a failure as a tremendous blunder. Over the last few years there have less than 10 massive misses and Benning has two of them in the last 4 years. There are no prospects for the team to trade and hardly any playing in Utica. .
  2. Lacking any other big news Benning might over pay Boeser and give him Mathews type money justifying that if Mathews and Marner are two of the top player for TO, then the Brock is the same. Now Boeser is good, but not the same animal, Horvat is more important to the team than Brock at this time and so far in all important categories, health, position and effect on the team.
  3. They lost only 3 fewer games than any of the previous 3 years, how about hurting the fans. All these stats cover up the fact that the team loses 60% more games than they win or can be looked at as -22 in wins, 35 W (including OT and SO) 47 Loses. A good year for them. I just can't believe this team has been soooo bad for so long and the way it is it needs to be longer yet otherwise the team is trapped half way for a decade or until another rebuild.
  4. Benning might take the stance that not taking on another bad contract is bad. It is not IF there is a sweetener. Eriksson for Lucic is NOT a bad deal IF the sweetener is a young prospect from Edmonton, even if he has to retain salary. Another contract similar to the Beagle, Roussel, Sutter without picks/prospects will screw the team for 3 years. Getting next picks is really good though. NYR want to finish their rebuild this year, 2 years total, they might trade away their #2 pick for a couple of so-so pst first round picks, maybe Jake and Olli with a couple late round picks, maybe a little more if necessary. Even if they threw in Stecher or Tanev or .... just not the future core forwards and only if NJ takes Hughes, do it for Kakko then fill in the rest of the draft for big dmen even if they have to play wing in the AHL that didn't hurt Byfuglien or Burns, if anything it made them better.
  5. As the draft gets closer and nothing with the Canucks is happening combined with Benning trying to save his job. Rumors abound about the #1 pick in play for some team's cap relief cast off and the need for the the club to make a splash. The cap relief cast off is an exaggeration as there are no particular players mentioned except Ghost, the Canucks #1 - 10th overall pick for Ghost, another undersized dman. I think most true fans understand this team needs another 2 or 3 years of rebuilding to fill most of the necessary spots to become Cup contenders. IMO things to be worried about to do with the team; Trading away picks for immediate mid range players Signing bad contracts for older UFA's Not using the cap space wisely, using it up rather than as an advantage for picks. Ignoring next year's draft, probably the best in 20 years Not thinking more than 6 months ahead. Getting fleeced, trading away what decent prospects the team does have either in the minors or Europe for roster spot players Not planning for what other teams will be doing Or Not Benning has never made more than two - three mistakes Trust that his UFA contracts will not handcuff the team in 3 years Trust his highly developed and much talked about scouting and player evaluation skills and then wait up to 4 years to see results All the media are wrong, ignore them. Re-explain what Benning means, redefine what he says for comfort. The draft is in 2 days, going? I am.
  6. Why would Benning trade away picks if not because they are not being developed? Recent rumors are he is shopping the #1 for a player, this is an affirmation of lack of confidence in drafting ability. If Benning has done such a great job over the last 5 years why is the team trading picks for other teams discards instead of pick and develop and have them make the team? Or over paying older vets giving them term and clauses? 5 YEARS, 6 DRAFTS, 7 TOP TEN FIRST ROUND PICKS AND ONLY 3 MAY BE CONSIDERED SURE THINGS, 4 FAILURES.
  7. So who gets the trophy? It really depends upon when it was voted on. The prevailing view at the start of the playoffs was Pettersson was a slam dunk. But this playoffs, Binnington was fantastic, well right from the day he started in January Being the home guy i would like for Pettersson to win it but it may become awkward at the awards if fans boo because Binnington doesn't get it. IMO is was Pettersson's to lose and while he didn't stink out the place his faltering combined with Binnington's continued brilliance tips the scales Binnington should win rookie of the year, he just carried his team to the cup. Thoughts?
  8. One thing for a goalie but does a cup of coffee in Utica count as developed by them? Jake came back worse by stats than when he left, he was a positive influence and defensively sound when he left, he had other issues that needed deallng with than playing, Guadette got 10 games? Saunter less than a season and Briesbois isn't that impactful otherwise why sign Schenn? Juolevi isn't even a player yet and not played one game in the NHL so how is that a success? I would look to the other draft picks from the last 5 drafts to see their progress, there should be a lot of them shouldn't there? Should be quite a few picks with 3+ years experience in the AHL right? One thing most over look is the next group of draft picks unless there is a Crosby or McDavid coming up. Next years group is superior by mass to the last 20 or so, very deep, into the 40's for expected sure things so maybe the Canucks should include in their plan for those top echelon players. September 2019 - The option to opt out of the current Labor Contract for either side. NHLPA - Telling players to prepare - Olympics, Cap, ESCROW, Sources - Player contracts reflect a possible cessation of play for the 2020 - 2021 season. NHL - Already delayed Seattle expansion and hundreds of millions owed for one year.
  9. A blast from the past, There was once a time when this was almost reasonable from ancient archives; note none of the posters exist anymore; some still have multiple accounts running though Alex Edler for Tyler Myers? A lot of top pairing dmans around the leauge somewhat struggling. Becuase Edler logs so much ice time, the chances of we noticing his screw ups is much higher because he plays much more. Terrible idea too, Tyler Myers is struggling much more then Edler. This will be a downright stupid trade. -Jim Benning June 27, 2015 shortly after the completion of the 2015 NHL Entry draft in Miami Florida. -Jim Benning June 24 2017 Magikal Canucks Third-Line Members 1,124 3,839 posts Location: Langley Report post Posted March 14, 2013 Personally I think buffalo would have to add more. Edler, while struggling this season, is a proven high calibre NHL D Man who can produce great offensive numbers when still being solid in his own zone......exception to this season. When you take someone of Edler's abilities, include the fact that when he is on his game his contract is a steal, moving him for a struggling novice jut doesn't make any sense. Also we should be keeping in mind that it is all but certain that Edler is playing injured. A players performance doesn't just drop off like this without some justification and Edler has never played this poorly before. I don't think Edler should be moved period, but if it has to happen, it has to be for more than a struggling Myers. Credit to Lahey. Buffalo just might do this deal because of the magic Edler and Erhoff have shared in the past. It would make Buffalo a better team...we might regress a little, but we get a kid who has the potential to be the elite d-man that everyone has been screaming for. thad Canucks Second-Line Members 1,631 4,351 posts Report post Posted March 14, 2013 They have to throw in more. I dunno, if you put edler on the market there would be a massive bidding war. Swapping him for Myers doesn't make us better than a package you could get for him. 10. Yes he is untouchable IMO, what might excite them is salary retention AND a player or two. The only reason he is in a tough position is none of the draft picks from 3 and 4 years ago are good enough for the NHL. Beagle and Roussel have M-NMC's which limits his choices. AND if he moves them now which FA will want to come here even with a no trade contract?
  11. Schenn for defence and Hughes for offence. Sign Myers or Trouba. Myers isn't going to light up the lamp, he might it just isn't his role in Winnipeg, but he has range and if given a shot might surprise people Lot of UFA defencemen available over 5'10" over 6'2" too. Trade Stecher for Zadorov, the team still has more little dmen. Get big, big helps winning, big helps skill
  12. I guess little kids will like them but little kids cannot afford the 4 or 5 hundred per game for a family of 4 in the lower bull ring. I won't be buyng for my family or friends they look amateurish and childish, WELCOME BACK Flying Ducks, maybe a movie in the works?
  13. Wasn't Olli Julievi crowned a saviour and supported by some posters as "if they wait long enough he might play" a come down from "he is the next one, our stud dman, a sure thing". Seems he is left out of conversations after 3 years. Wonder where he staunch supporters are now, probably posting how bad he is.
  14. If he was offered that contract Benning should be fired. Why not 10 mil for 3 years with 20 mil signing bonus the first year? Or make it for 8 years, ya, and buyout proof with 95% of the salary signing bonuses and throw in a NMC too boot., oh wait he already did that and is still here. Edler, sure bring him back and maybe even pay him a little bonus money, but he stated he isn't interested in winning a cup or rather it would be nice but he doesn't believe in taking a chance to win one so he is here simply to fill in. On Hughes, what happens if he can't defend? Or score? Sure he is going to get loads of PP time and play with the best players, not really have to earn the spot like Hutton or others (isn't Green the one who says all have to earn their spot?) If Hughes can't defend they almost have to have Tanev and Edler around to play with him.
  15. Okay, sorry i didn't read the several pages of posts so i took the comment out of context. Funny though, how many posters tried to find a different meaning to the statement, one that makes the Canucks look good.;)
  16. The team can easy absorb a under performing player for another 2 or 3 years especially if Puljujarvi is coming along with Lucic. Besides isn't there going to be a lock out next year? Of course a buyout is a possibility without losing any assets, but throw in a 3rd round pick to get Puljujarvi? Sure why not? Very few of the teams draft picks even see the AHL team.
  17. Really? Sourcing forums for ideas is common. I have read many posts here that ended up being content on various shows, some posters more than others. A forum sometimes feeds trends of fan attitudes sort of like a big polls only with open thoughts to comment on. Just look at the show 65o just did, trade Virtanen, Julievi and the Canucks #1 for Ghost. That has to come from a controversial forum topic as there is no way that player is worth three 1rst round picks, it is so wrong in so many ways the least of which is the odds that one of the three traded shine or worse all three become regular players that the Canucks could have used down the road. But it got attention even if negative which usually give more ideas for shows than agreeing to everything the team does.
  18. Is that true? There is no agreement between the KHL and NHL is there? Even so a large signing bonus could take care of that. At least Benning is talking about needing to be much bigger but he still talks about 2 to 4 years for a draft pick to be ready for the NHL, which is really archaic thinking by the comments made by a lot of GM's
  19. There was a way in the past, the blood from a survivor could be filtered for antibodies and then distributed. For some reason modern medicine frowns on this process. I believe this was done by African doctors against the wishes of the WHO when one of their beloved nurses fell ill with ebola and was on deaths door, they took blood from a survivor and gave it to her and she recovered within 24 hours, it was on TV years ago, the African doctors were all chastised and the incident put down as a fluke and misdiagnoses of ebola. Considering they hundreds dying of the disease at the time and she was their nurse i am pretty sure they knew the difference between ebola and a cold. I think the Canadian cure followed something along these lines but was pushed aside for the American process of artificial medicines that treat all the syptoms until it runs it's course. Funny, all the Americans that contracted the disease used the Canadian cure rather than the American one. The worst thing would be if there was an ebola type disease that needed two or three weeks to incubate but was an airborne contagion contagious after two days, that would do it, pretty much 1/2 to 3/4 of the world would be done in.
  20. When ICBC was JUST an insurance company they were doing very well, 3 billion in the bank. Along comes Campbell and he tries and fails to sell ICBC so instead he off loaded numerous government agencies to ICBC and let them pay for their duties. Thousands of government employees suddenly became ICBC's employees'. As well as the costs of maintenance of those government buildings. The costs of the entire Motor Vehicle Branch of government were off loaded onto ICBC crushing their surplus and costing 100's of millions. The government liked this, more money in gen rev and now taxation via ICBC rate increases without backlash. Also no more strikes, ICBC pays for every thing and then increases rates. ICBC was so good at hiding things that many Liberal insiders created insurance brokerage firms which ICBC pays some 600 million a year to renew your insurance, a feat that a 6 year old can accomplish using a mouse and following instructions I would estimate that ICBC has an additional 1.1 billion they spend that has nothing to do with insurance at all. No where else does a car insurance company give out driving tests, tickets, pay lawyers to fight speeding tickets, pay for equipment, bill collecting, numerous other expenses. Simply they are the instrument of HIDDEN TAXATION. They are not the only "crown corporation" that is used for hidden taxation, just one of the biggest and most obvious if ANYONE THOUGHT to look.
  21. No actually it would be aids. Aids can be spread for months by one person without necessarily creating symptoms quickly. Not only that but AIDS has so many other names to use in cause of death so it would not panic everyone. Culling would be accomplished by lowering the lifespan of millions without the devastation of millions suddenly missing via a quick death. Aids could be said to the perfect disease, culling without notice. Any disease that would have a short incubation could be overcome even if it is only quarantining, the "bug" would quickly run out of victims if it was ebola. Aids is still 100% fatal, the drugs have just prolonged the end coming. HIV has not been cured either.
  22. Wow, 48 pages on jersey's? How many for skate colors? Or fabrics? Designer gloves? It is the playoffs season so i guess there has to be something to post.
  23. Funny isn't it, an avatar of "it takes an army" and someone is trying to explain winning.
