  2. Pretty great career for a guy claimed off waivers 3 separate times.
  3. Man... Florida squeaking in was huge for you.
  4. I mean, the Loui Eriksson contract was bad…but 8 x $10.5M? That is CRUSHING!
  5. Didn’t the 2 teams they passed in the record books (Detroit and Tampa) both lose in the 1st round? Tampa was swept! (Correction: Detroit made the Conference Finals that year.) Playoffs are a new season. And even a great team that hasn’t had to overcome adversity all season can easily stumble for a few games and be out before they know what hits them. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone gives them a tougher time than people expect. Especially NYI - Sorokin can absolutely steal some games.
  6. I tend to think if Canucks put Myers on waivers the moment after his bonus is paid, he will get claimed. A basement team like Arizona will jump at the chance to add $6M in cap for only $1M in actual dollars. Not to mention the possibility of flipping him at 50% retained for a mid-round pick at the deadline. He might end up with a chip on his shoulder, in a contract year, and have a pretty good season. If it weren’t for his 10-team no-trade list, I’d be reasonably confident we’d get something for Myers after that bonus is paid, even if just a late round pick. But even if we can just dump him for no cap hit, it will still be good for the team.
  7. How can you compare Kane’s time in Chicago (3 cups), with Horvat’s time in Vancouver (a giant s***-show)??? It’s incomparable. You don’t think former captain Nick Foligno is happy to be out of Columbus right now? If he threw a little shade on them by suggesting such, would anyone blame him? And yet, the situation in Columbus has been better than here in Vancouver. Sure, there’s been losing, but at least you don’t have to deal with a crazy media and a crazier fanbase. And success-wise, we have the same amount of series wins in the last 10 years - but the BJs pulled off one of the greatest upsets of all time.
  8. Although not “the worst”, season 3 of The Mandalorian has been a HUGE letdown. Not even remotely as good as the first 2.
  9. Oh man… …I gotta say - I LOVE this! For one, I love it when players play the heel. I tend to think players almost need to be a bit ‘dickish’ to have real success in the playoffs. So many mock and degrade guys like Keith, Kane, Doughty, and Marchand…But those guys win. Nice guys like Naslund and the twins too often don’t. I wish I would have seen more spine from Bo when he was here, I might have been a bigger fan. But mainly, the best part, was watching 90% of the posters respond by proving him right. Taking shots at him, while we whimper to the finish line of another losing season… Seriously? What was good about captaining the Vancouver Canucks? The constant losing? The ridiculous mismanagement? The worst COVID outbreak of any major sports team? The microscope of the ridiculous Vancouver media? Or the legions of entitled fans who don’t seem to have any concept of reality? For Bo Horvat, being a Vancouver Canuck was not a good thing at all. His new team has embraced him, and paid him substantially more than we were willing to - all the power to him to move on and take some pot shots at those wasted years. But still, all along I’ve said we can’t keep both Miller and Horvat, and at equal dollars Miller is the superior player. At $500K less, it’s a no-brainer. And the best part is, Miller is a natural ‘dick’ - he doesn’t have to force it like Bo. He’s a winner - we just need to improve other parts of the team to help him make a difference when it truly matters. I have no ill-will to Bo at all. It was time for him to go, and he peaked at just the right time for the team to get max value for him. Good on him for getting a spine and taking shots for the good of his new team. I hope they do well - and even if they don’t, it was excellent entertainment.
  10. I’ve always enjoyed Lord Huron, but in the last year they’ve grown to be one of my favourite bands. I saw about a dozen concerts last year, and theirs was the highlight (despite being the day after The National, a long-time favourite). Many of their songs seem to keep getting better with time. I must have played this one a hundred times, and yet each time it seems better than the last:
  11. Crap, that's right. Ah, but what the heck? I'll still claim him.
  12. Carolina claims Derek Stepan. Place Nick Bonino on IR if successful (Link). @Nail
  13. I live in Calgary. Buddies are going out tomorrow night to watch the Flames-Jets game. Totally looking past tonight, as it seems the Flames' players did as well. Looks like I'm going for wings... With extra salt (to rub in their wounds)!
  14. I'm a dad in his 40's. Screw both - cargo shorts for the win!
  15. I know I’m in the minority, but I love Tampa. They have quietly built a powerhouse team the right way, and are reaping the rewards. Many are jealous, but for me it’s pure admiration. Toronto, on the other hand, finally made some good long-term moves after years of screwing the pooch for decades, and have incessantly bragged about it since…despite not winning a single round! Their team is talented, and Tampa’s weaker than previous versions…but do I trust the Leafs not to choke? Nope.
  16. Pettersson and Hughes are better now than any players on the team that won for Carolina. But they were deep, and caught goaltending lightning in a bottle (similar to St. Louis). This team has some fantastic top-end talent, but the supporting cast has been awful. That seems to be changing for the better - hope they can keep it going with limited cap and prospects though.
  17. I think you're overestimating the difference. They're not all that different. AHL < SHL <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< NHL
  18. Fighting one guy ain't enough for Deslauriers. Shades of Gino Odjick...
  19. That's like saying top 4 Dman in the AHL likely translates to top 4 Dman in the NHL... The top defensemen in the SHL are a "who's who?" of guys who were fringe NHL-ers, or couldn't make it in the first place. Johansson has 2 less points than the immortal Oscar Fantenberg, and Fantenberg has played 9 less games. Johansson is young enough to have some promise, but him making it as a steady bottom-pairing NHL D-man would be a win. Penciling him in as a quality top-4 D - let alone within the next year or two - is pretty silly.
  20. Yeah, the only way this makes any sense for Vancouver is if Washington is so desperate to move him that they'll consider taking a cap dump like Myers or Garland in return. Barring that, hard pass. Even then, I doubt they're going to move one of their young D-men. They moved on from Orlov and Gustafsson to retool around the younger guys. Especially Fehervary, who is very valuable on his own.
  21. Lol... Really? Did you watch how the the team were playing under him? I can't think of too many coaches who deserved to be fired more than Boudreau. Lovable guy and all, but that's part of the job.
