  1. I think Myers gets moved after his bonus without a sweetener. Even if it is just waiving him. Pretty sure a team like Arizona would happily take an NHL defender with $6M cap for only $1M salary. Beyond that? Not sure. But might not need more, if Pearson and Poolman are headed for LTIR.
  2. Carolina Hurricanes - Round 3 Roster Jordan Martinook - Reilly Smith Jani Hakanpaa - Alec Martinez John Ludvig - Daniil Miromanov Jiri Patera Four players and three long shots. All the best, @donut47!
  3. Supposedly Kane has multiple injuries. Pretty sure Draisaitl got hurt at some point this series too. He wasn't the same player the last few games. Oilers have Ekholm from game 1 next year. I think they come back even stronger.
  4. There's a big loss if Vegas loses next game (as I expect they will, trying to contain McD/Drai without their franchise D-man), and are unable to win the next two.
  5. Exactly! That was probably more painful than what happened to Draisaitl. It wasn't necessarily as premeditated, but then again...
  6. I think the Nurse suspension is stupid. But they put that in the rules to prevent the ends of these games going off the rails, as they often did in the past. It is what it is. And yes I agree there is a tendency to want to "even things up". They probably looked at this situation and thought it was easy to wrap it up in a bow by giving Pietrangelo the same suspension as Nurse. But at the same time, I understand why AP didn't necessarily deserve a longer suspension.
  7. I mentioned intent earlier. It seems reasonable to believe that if Pietrangelo actually intended to injure Draisaitl, he would have actually injured him. He is an elite player, who makes his living controlling his stick.
  8. Nurse's was automatic, so no sense comparing. Makar and Bunting injured the guys. McCann just came back. Cernak might still be out if Tampa had advanced. Draisaitl is fine, and indicated such immediately after. So how is this worse than those two?
  9. Although at a different level, it's similar to the Avs locking up MacKinnon to his previous contract. He hadn't figured it all out, but Colorado bet long term on him. That was July 2016, and it took another full season before he really broke out. But once he did, they had him for 6 more years at only $6.3M. If Benning hadn't screwed up the cap, I tend to think that we could have locked up Pettersson at 8 x $9.25M in 2021, rather than the 3-year, $7.5M bridge deal we signed him to. He was coming off a tough year, dealing with injury. It would have looked a bit worrisome when he was continuing to struggle the following season. But now? How nice would it be to have Pettersson locked up well under market value?
  10. Not really. It's kind of juvenile to say 'a game is a game', regardless of the player. A suspension is, in effect, a fine. Pietrangelo makes $47,600 per day. Bunting makes $5,140 per day. Financially, a 1-game suspension for AP is a far larger "fine" than a 3-game suspension for MB. Money is different in the playoffs, but the "cost" for AP's team to be missing their top defenseman(/player?) for a game is very high. It's much more of a hit to a team than losing a 3rd-pairing/depth guy like Rome for 4 games. And really, what did Pietrangelo do? He smacked his stick across Draisaitl's chest protector (and arms, but even if it missed the padding, the fact it was across both arms and the chest spread out the impact). It was stupid and reckless, and deserved a suspension because of optics, and how close he was to hitting Leon somewhere that could actually hurt him. But I tend to think Pietrangelo knew exactly where he was hitting him, and could have done far more damage if that was his intention. It looked bad - but the actual effect and intention wasn't really that bad. A game seems pretty fair, IMO.
  11. But didn't you know? Pulp root for the old guys on Dallas - Pavelski, Suter, Glendening...
  12. Meh, it looked a lot worse than it actually was. And this is coming from a guy that prefers Edmonton to win. Also, I'm pretty sure the league considers the effect on a team. Losing Pietrangelo for 1 game is actually more punitive for his team than losing Bunting for 3 or even Rome for 4. People say it should be equal, but that is also kind of silly to say.
  13. Assuming we can create cap room elsewhere… Podkolzin + Hoglander for Laf. Fits both team’s needs.
  14. The best part of this thread is the claim that knee injuries have advanced in the last 4 years. Especially since for almost half of that time, most elective surgeries were on hiatus due to COVID. The 2nd best part is, as much as it sucks for Landeskog, this just makes the West more wide open for the next few years. Colorado looked like they’d be dominant for a while, but this brings them back to the pack a bit.
  15. All that tanking, and no team ended up with more than 1 lottery pick? Think that’s a first…
  16. When a cause of death is not given, that is usually not a great sign. It's a shame, he still should have had a lot of good years ahead of him.
  17. Clifton was a fun player to watch this year. But he didn't seem to maintain his regular season play in the playoffs, and got exposed. Whether this was because of him not being as good as many thought he was, or his smaller body not holding up for a whole season and then the rigors of the playoffs...I lean hard pass. Especially since he'll probably cost significantly more than Bear.
  18. Good for Mikey. He's been toiling in the AHL for a while, but is finally looking like a decent regular depth guy.
  19. Carolina Hurricanes - Round 2 Roster Evander Kane - Yegor Sharangovich - Reilly Smith Jordan Martinook - Curtis Lazar - Radim Zohorna Tyce Thompson Darnell Nurse - Alec Martinez Jani Hakanpaa - Daniil Miromanov John Ludvig Jiri Patera Yikes, got really thin, really fast. Guys in italics are not likely to play, and half of the guys left are depth players. Going to need a couple of guys to have a big series to make it through. @Nail
  20. Minny needs bargains to fill out the roster, and Johansson was solid for them this year. Good deal for both sides.
  21. The Motte line was the best 5-on-5 line for the Rangers tonight, by a country mile.
  22. You must have not been watching. When the Devils are rolling (like they were tonight), they are quite possibly the most exciting team to watch in the whole league. If Schmid continues to lock it down, NJ has got this.
