  1. Carolina Hurricanes send down Joe Snively and recall Michael Pezzetta. @Nail
  2. I have a huge house. Gonna take some time… And I pour an old fashioned for “I’ve got…reservations…”
  3. Whoa...wasn't even in his own net.
  4. Benn and Klingberg were 5th rounders. Robertson and Hintz were 2nd rounders. More picks = more chances to land guys like this.
  5. Anyone watching Andor? It’s surprisingly good. Particularly episodes 3, 6, and 10.
  6. The team is screwed. They desperately need to rebuild the defence, but with quality defenders in such high demand, they can’t acquire what they need through trades. And we’re capped out too, so we can’t acquire it in free agency either. The only way left is to draft a new D-core, and perhaps trade veterans for D prospects that hopefully pan out (like Tampa did with Sergachev and Cernak). But that is going to take years to play out.
  7. Carolina Hurricanes place Evander Kane on IR (Link), and recall Joe Snively. @Nail
  8. Islanders aren’t usually considered a contender. But they went to the Eastern Conference Finals twice in a row before last year’s craziness, and if anything, have better goaltending now. They are 11-6-0 (no loser points) to start the season. They were the team rumoured to be most interested in Miller in the offseason. And they can afford it if we take someone like Bailey (who has no form of trade clause) back. They weren’t willing to pay the price beforehand, but you’d have to think that price has gone down considerably. What if it ended up just being their 2023 1st (which should be late), Bailey, and a fringe prospect? Are we happy with that? I think I would be, simply to reset the room and get out from under the long-term weight of that contract.
  9. It would be easy to “blow it up”. All management has to do is trade Horvat, and we the tank is fully on.
  10. Conversely, do you want to be paying Miller and Horvat over $15M combined well into their late 30s? Especially considering, at their absolute peak, the team around isn't good enough to win anything? And that's not going to get better with age.
  11. With the season he's having, trading Horvat at the deadline could be a good start. He's probably going to land at least a 1st and a really good prospect, possibly more. And we have to move some wingers, even if for less than expected, because it doesn't benefit us much in the long term to have veterans taking minutes from Podkolzin and Hoglander.
  12. This is pretty much where we’re at. If Bo is playing that well, and we’re still nowhere near good enough to contend, and have no elite prospects knocking on the door, we probably shouldn’t be signing him well into his 30’s. He’s not going to get better, and probably neither is the team, in its current state.
  13. Nah, just why I didn't reach out, even though I knew you wanted a defenseman.
  14. FWIW, Schmidt's 16-team LNTC blocked Chicago too.
  15. Thanks to @Relyt Krets for the quick negotiations! This came up after I put Nate on waivers, and it suited both teams' needs. Schmidt has a decent chance of regaining his form and producing well again (he had 222 points last year). If he gets moved to a contender at some point, he'll have value, especially with salary retention. But I'm focusing on the here and now, and needed to make better use of that cap space. Schmidt's LNTC was blocking a trade to a few teams I've had talks with, but Murray has no clause, so this trade gives me more flexibility. And with Murray's lower cap hit, and a real chance that he retires or signs in Europe in the next year or two, he's probably an easier sell to rebuilding teams.
  16. They certainly won’t draft the next: Alexander Mogilny, Jamie Benn, John Klingberg, Brendan Gallagher, Ray Ferraro, Connir Hellebuyck, Kevin Bieksa, Sergei Zubov, Jake Muzzin, Kirill Kaprisov, Mikael Samuelsson, Zach Hyman, Connor Garland, Mike Hoffman, Carson Soucy, Gustav Forsling, Miroslav Satan, Andrew Shaw, Nick Jensen, Troy Terry, Kris Versteeg, Alex Kerfoot, Mikhail Grabovski, Cal Petersen, Petr Klima, Lee Stempniak, Scotty Walker, Travis Moen, Yegor Sharangovich, Gino Odjick, Michael Ferland, Rob Scuderi, Tucker Poolman, Noah Cates, Karel Vejmelka…
  17. As much as we don’t have enough RHD, we were really lacking centers in the system as well. With a distinct possibility of one of Horvat or Miller getting traded this year, adding someone with the potential to step in as a 3C was crucial. Just because he hasn’t made the jump in Boston doesn’t mean there isn’t anything there. He’s still young, and has shown very well in the AHL. Our scouts made a similar call on Nils Aman, who Colorado didn’t even bother signing, and he’s been a great fit.
  18. If they retained a few million, some teams would be interested. Meier is essentially an impending UFA. His QO is $10M. But he’s not playing even remotely well enough to offer him even close to that.
  19. I’m already trying to change my yearly Sportsnet Now package to just 1 month. Must be a lot of us though, was on hold (in a chat!) for over a half hour, then got disconnected.
  20. He might have done it too. But at least we didn’t pay him $32K/day for that nonsense.
