  1. They actually had Wade Brookbank in that role and actually had scored a few goals in like half a dozen games riding shotgun in that line. Unfortunately he couldn't much except be an enforcer and soon was put on waivers when the roster spot was needed for an actual player. He was good as an enforcer as the Canucks & Sens played telephone tag claiming Brookbank off of waivers whenever the other would put him on waivers.
  2. This isn't the Ron Delorme thread.
  3. The plan: Just give Pavel the puck & try not to get in his way. And its not like he wasn't willing to 'share the glory' with his friends. Gino I think got a better contract as a result of his feeds.
  4. I've told this story before but Quinn was also VERY loyal to a number of his players. How loyal? Despite dying of a terminal disease, he spent some of the limited time he had left to visit Gino Odjick at VGH the first time he had those heart issues. This is why guys like Odjick would defend Quinn no matter the consequences (eg., Mike Keenan was bad mouthing Quinn in the locker room & Gino stood up & walked over to him and essentially said: "Listen Mike, you can call me any name in the book...I've heard them all. But if I hear you say another insult about Quinn....he banged a locker with his fist...that'll be your head". I *think* Gino was traded not long afterwards.
  5. heh, even Pat Quinn probably could still throw some good 'haymakers' at his age then.
  6. Truth be told, you're far from the only person that said what I post doesn't make any sense
  7. Sometimes I try to be too clever but end up failing badly
  8. Richard Sharpe, 95th Rifles: "A “killing” officer will lead you to your death as he does his job. A “murdering” officer will get you killed needlessly either in a vain attempt to seek glory or through his incompetence."
  9. The closest player I can think of that had that kind of "aura" was Jean Beliveau. You might boo him (as he WAS playing for a rival team) but you could never really hate him (imho). I recall an old story Gordie Howe used to tell. He gave Beliveau a good bodycheck one game & Gordie's mom wouldn't speak to him for over a month.
  10. Last I checked, Jeremy Jacobs is still chairman of the board of NHL governors. "If you ain't cheating...you ain't trying".
  11. Aren't most EA sports games essentially just a reskin of "last years product" with very little (if any) significant additions/improvements while charging full retail price for basically 'last year's game' with a cosmetic patch? I know that's the case with the Madden game franchise. Not that one needs yet another reason to hate the 'evil empire' (EA) - though Bobby Kotik (sp?) is sure giving EA a run for the money in the greed department (Blizzard).
  12. If they kept Jerry Korab instead the trade would've been a landslide home run victory for the Canucks even if Gary Smith (who was great for us in his right) never played a single second for the Canucks. How good was Korab? Obviously not Norris trophy calibre but think Byfuglien. Korab was a tough, mean defenseman, especially well suited for 70s hockey. Heck, he's *EXACTLY* the type of defenseman this team needs *TODAY*.
  13. Still had a better NHL career than Juolevi & Virtanen (both drafted higher than him).
  14. Problem with Orr is he didn't take the "Franco Harris" mode of thinking that prolonged "Franco's Army" career. He would often run out of bounds instead of 'taking the hit' to get an extra yard (imho). Reason why the great Jim Brown didn't like his way of playing. Orr was like that. He wouldn't try to avoid a hit but take the hit when carrying the puck. It cost him (accumulated damage to his knees as player went to take him out).
  15. Reminds me of an old Pat Riley quote: "If the game was on the line, there's only one person I'd want to take that shot. Michael Jordan. However, if my life was on the line, I'd want Larry Bird to take that shot".
  16. We all know how Suter effected Paul Kariya's career as well. A real POS (Suter).
  17. Could've used Mario in that shootout in Nagano (granted Crawford wouldn't let Gretzky take a shot ). Mario was 'money in the bank' even if Hasek was the goalie.
  18. Lemieux didn't have to shoot the puck to be effective either:
  19. I was scared straight when I saw Alf wearing some skinny jeans.
