  1. I've said this before, but take a good look at who was drafted further down that draft year in the 1st round: https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl1987e.html (hint: 15th overall) There's no doubt our ace Western Canada amateur scout Ron Delorme would've spoken out and drafted Burnaby Joe playing in the WHL at the time...that is, if he wasn't in Sweden at the time.
  2. If Bossy had Snepsts feeding him in the slot every game, he'd gets 100 goals in a season without breaking a sweat.
  3. When Bobby Orr played, he "dropped the gloves" to protect himself. When Gretzky played, he had Semenko watching his back. McDavid better have a similiar enforcer, else he'll get the same treatment EP got from the loser from Florida.
  4. Alf has been watching the Disney channel again.
  5. All Benning had to do was wait it out one more season with LE & his contract would be off the books (as well as Rousell) & we would've kept our 1st round pick. Just send LE to our AHL affiliate (but tell him he didn't have to report) for that final year.
  6. I never boo'd #11 while he was in the Canuck uniform at games I attended. I simply can't do that no matter who is wearing the jersey I may dislike the player but it just seems to me wrong (just my opinion). Watching the games on TV, well I might have yelled at the screen.
  7. I still refuse to this day to eat a Lay's chip because I associate so much with that turd. Not so good for one's mental health to hold that grudge but physically I'm probably more healthy for it (less junk food).
  8. Thankfully he became head coach of the Kings. Proved invaluable when Dave Nonis made the big trade to acquire Roberto Luongo & signed him to a big contract (while he had Dan Cloutier sill under contract for several years - so that we'd have like 9 million in cap space allocated to goalies back when I think the cap was under 40 million?). Nonis was handcuffed (and other teams knew it). Have to think Crawford whispered in the ears of the Kings GM to acquire Cloutier. We got a 2nd & 3rd round pick out of the deal (without taking any garbage salary back). Another reason to like Marc Crawford. I could have my memories mixed up but didn't Keenan want Burke & got Burke to make the move? Or was that Brad May? It was like over 20 years ago so my memory is a bit hazy.
  9. I never saw such a disconnect between the amateur scouting & professional scouting in a management team. Amateur scouting? A (I would've given a A+ if not for Jake & OJ). Professional scouting? C- at best (that's even with that 1st line forward that can play all 3 positions-JT).
  10. It was entertaining (didn't hurt we won more games than lost-in the regular season). And if we were down a few goals, there was always the chance we'd come back. Even Cloutier was kind of solid (again during the regular season). At least that's how I remember that period.
  11. Seemed like we had a stretch where many of our backup goaltending were pretty respectable. I have to give credit to the goalie coaching for at least some of that. I especially liked this moment Raycroft had (relieving Luongo when he didn't have a good night):
  12. The hockey gods were trolling the Canucks when they made Salo virtually the only blueliner completely healthy for the 2011 post-season. Pretty much the only other healthy (or heh non-suspended) blueliners were Keith Ballard & Nolan freaking Baumgartner.
  13. No team is going to win (in the post-season) with Dan Cloutier in net. As a player, he was a decent bottom 6 winger in that he fit into Roger 'Captain Video' Neilson's system.
  14. Requires further clarification sir. Meaning? *SOME* manure has some value as compost. That does not describe that gentlemen who stole the #11. He's chicken manure. Pretty much the manure that stinks the worse.
  15. *almost* worth it for this: It was hilarious him sucking wind after a 30 second shift though.
  16. I put his development (or lack of) blame on the coaching (my opinion). Let's see if Tocchet can change that. That & him being healthy (a point you made) will go a long ways in making him worth his current contract.
  17. meh, if you're not good at anything (which is point I also said you oddly overlooked when replying to my post), you're not going to have a successful NHL career. Fact is, he was very average at most things but didn't excel at anything. Better to have just one high skill level even if the rest of your game is kind of meh than being meh at everything (like Boeser, who has a very high skill level - goal scoring ability).
  18. Truth be told, I didn't know it either. I also wondered what happened to the guy when you mentioned him in the post (heh, my memory ain't *THAT* good ) & researched into it.
  19. He had no real glaring weaknesses. Problem was, he wasn't really good at anything either. That said, he's still has a contract with a NHL team and he was drafted late (26th overall) in the 1st round.
  20. Tough to knock a guy since he did suffer a major injury that pretty well cut short his professional career (during a game a skate sliced his wrist badly). He never was able to regain his former ability with that rebuilt wrist (skate cut thru a bunch of his tendons).
  21. That is true but remember that there wasn't alot of interest in scouting players outside of North America even at that time. Sure there was SOME scouting but not to the amount today (especially considering the 'cold war' was still in effect).
