  1. You used to be able to see the puck, and its trajectory, now the ice is getting covered with crap, the boards are electronically lit up like blinding headlights, even the glass. I think the uniforms should be a bit sacred, and we should keep it to just the NHL, the team, and the player info; that Euro stuff is disgusting. You can't even find the player's name half the time and the ice looks like finger-painting. Rant, rant, rant, rant, rant, drop the farting puck already!
  2. The difference in the shortfall is negligible; the ruination of the viewing experience continues apace.
  3. Booooooo! I want to buy an ad that says "Ads on players' gear, the boards, and the ice, make the game less enjoyable. Don't support these businesses."
  4. You go Jan! I'm just sitting here waiting too. The 16 teams: Vancouver Calgary Toronto Montreal LA Anaheim San Jose Seattle Vegas Chicago Detroit Minnesota NYR Boston Philadelphia Pittsburgh (Washington, St. Lou,??) I have no idea whatsoever which players will be available from other teams. Our Top 12: Petey Bo Flow Mills Virt Zee-Mack Huggers Schmidty Olli G-Raff Demmer Mike Tendy This would certainly change depending on who we picked up. Thanks for the fun Jan!
  5. Every thread devolves into Jake, or Covid, or Unies, or something other than the topic. "Speculation: Canucks clearing cap for Hamonic" - Jake sucks; no he doesn't. Rant rant rant. - Top 6, Top 9, AHL start, NHL start. Rant rant rant. - Dumb Nuk trolls and lands someone. Rant rant rant. - I get on here and rant about thread devolutions. Rant rant rant. Oh yeah, any news on the speculation that the Canucks might be clearing cap space for Hamonic?
  6. The goal is to win The Cup. The aggressive black, red, yellow, white was the result of trying to use sports psychology to gain an edge. Any attempt to increase the chances to win The Cup are ok with me. Despite the reasons some people did not like those uniforms, the team had some success, which might be partially attributable to the new colours. I could give a flying "V" if they wear negligees, just win The Cup!
  7. Love the Johnny Canuck jersey, esp w/Bo in it; these guys rocked that sweater too. This old VCHC photo interested me very much, thank you. Trent Beatty played for the Prince George Mohawks (and was probably there the year they went all the way and won everything (and beat up everybody that stood in their way). That was a really, really, tough team that I am constantly reminded of every time I pull out the old Slapshot tape/DVD/download. Marty Howe on D. Maloney and Popein were really solid players.
  8. Anybody know if they landed ok? I wazza, wazza, Kamikase pilot. They gave me a plane, I couldn't fly it home. Taught how to take off, I don't know how to land. They say it doesn't matter and I just cannot understand. Cherry blossom, falling down; cherry blossom fall-ling, down. I Was A Kamikaze Pilot - Hoodoo Gurus
  9. Report: Auston Matthews ‘dropped his pants, bent over, and grabbed his buttocks’ towards female security guard BY Ian Oland 39 Comments September 24, 2019 7:33 pm Auston Matthews, the cover boy for NHL 20, is in some hot water with the city of Scottsdale after being charged with disorderly conduct on May 26. Matthews was not arrested, but the accusation is troubling. According to exclusive reporting by the CBC, Matthews and a group of male friends tried to open the door of a female security guard’s vehicle while she did paperwork at 2 AM. The security guard claims the group was intoxicated. The security guard got out and confronted Matthews. And then this happened according to the CBC. The report states that, as Matthews walked away, he dropped his pants, bent over and grabbed his buttocks, though the complainant said he appeared to keep his underwear on. The report says surveillance video shows a male subject walking toward the complex elevators with his pants around his ankles. Reporting from AZFamily.com adds that the security guard was a military veteran with severe PTSD. According to police paperwork, the group said they “wanted to see what she would do and they believed it would be funny to see how she would respond.” The security guard was on edge and did not find the supposed prank funny. On Wednesday morning, Matthews has a pretrial conference in his hometown. He is not required to be at the hearing. News of the disorderly conduct charge first landed on Twitter this morning. The Maple Leafs responded to the charge Tuesday night by saying they were aware of it and that Auston nor the team “will comment any further.” Headline photo: @auston_matthews
  10. The NHL is getting faster and faster. The KHL has not, and is in danger of looking like rec hockey at times. I love Tryamkin and don't want anything like the expansion draft to delay his return, but I understand giving it some consideration. There is still a lot of water to flow under the bridge before the ED, so I would rather JB&Co make other changes to protect key players.
  11. I wouldn't trade Mr. Pettersson for Mr. Underpants.
  12. See Gary (Buttman), you should have put the 32nd franchise in Canada. May be a good time for realignment: Cancel Arizona, Florida, or any other US team that does not garner any reasonable fan support. Add at least one more Canadian franchise out of Quebec City, Hamilton, the Maritimes, or Regina! There, I said it, I know nobody thinks it would work, but I believe Saskabush would get right behind the Regina Vaginas Anginas as they gave everybody else heart attacks; couldn't use the Regina Pats I suppose; Saskatchewan Flatlanders; the Saskatchewan Prairies, Prairie Dogs, Arizona Desert Dogs become the Saskabush Prairie Dogs, Florida Panthers become the Flatland See-Your-Dog-Run-Away-Forevers; ; ; world record Mule Deer Bucks in N.Sask...Saskatchewan Stags, Bucks, Blacktails, Muleys .. So much time; so little hockey..
  13. It's gonna take more than 2 weeks quarantine to get that awful stink off him then. Just kidding of course, I need all this good news of players' returning, getting ready, can't wait to see The Yutes. Thanks Vintage.
  14. Thanks, I was wondering about all the conflicting schedules, quarantines, training camps, etc, right now. What the hell? Podz is so good, he can play on all the teams! At the same time. (Man, I'm desperate for some hockey.)
  15. Just a reminder, Podz vs Tree at 8:30am tomorrow (Dec10).
  16. Yeah, I think every day counts. 10 day camp instead of 14 days = Jan 4/20 as start of camp. 2 weeks quarantine before that = ~ Dec 20 as start of final (Official?) quarantine. Yahoo, and, Get &^*%-ing Going, Jake!"-Horvat
  17. Yeah, I hear ya. Lots to worry about these days. But, the bottom line is: We may be getting an NHL season start in about 5 weeks! We should also be hearing more and more about the players, and camp, and Hockey!
  18. Thanks Mac! This is the second wave of good news that goes along with the announcement of the immanent arrival of the vaccine for our front line workers and seniors in care. (Please, Covidiots, do what you are told for a couple more months and don't contribute to the numbers of unfortunate people who are going to contract this disease right before we get it under control.) Maybe now we can tighten up the schedule for what must transpire before January 13th; i.e. 2 weeks quarantine plus 2 weeks (used-to--be-mandatory) training camp = December 16th. Various reports of players isolating and working out in small groups of teammates and staff; time to "Get the band back together!" Congratulations to all involved for placing The Game, and Society in General, ahead of ego and greed; and for what must have been very difficult work, negotiating and compromising on a deadly and shifting foundation. Thanks to all. Now, Drop The Puck!
  19. lol now you've reminded me of those Cooper-Alls (?), those pant-suits that Philly and a couple other teams wore for a (thankfully) short period of time.
  20. Here is the latest (Dec 2nd) from the NHL: NHL 'taking our time' planning for start of 2020-21 season Commissioner optimistic there can be return to normal by 2021-22 by Nicholas J. Cotsonika @cotsonika / NHL.com Columnist December 2, 2020 The NHL is planning for what could be an unusual 2020-21 season with the goal of returning to normal in 2021-22. The League has targeted Jan. 1, 2021 for the start of this season. "That is a work in progress, influenced largely by what we're hearing from the medical experts, and we talk to some pretty highly placed people without name-dropping," Commissioner Gary Bettman said Wednesday. "COVID[-19] is going through a second wave, which could be worse than the first wave, and between Thanksgiving and the aftermath and what they think is going to happen for Christmas and the aftermath, we are taking our time and making sure that as we look for ways to move forward we're focused on health and safety and doing the right things." Commissioner Bettman made the comments in an online interview during Sports Business Journal's Dealmakers in Sports conference. The Commissioner said the NHL Players' Association would sign off on a training camp of appropriate length, which might be slightly shorter than past seasons. Teams probably would want to play a preseason game or two, he said. Based on what the NHL is being told by medical experts, particularly regarding the availability of vaccines to the general public, Commissioner Bettman said arenas could be full in 2021-22, when the Seattle Kraken begin play as an expansion team. "I think this is perhaps the most important thing," the Commissioner said. "What we're focused on is trying to get through the '20-21 season so that we can be back in position for '21-22 to normalcy. … We are hopeful and optimistic based on everything we're hearing that we can look at normalcy by the time we get to '21-22 whatever happens this season." Commissioner Bettman said the NHL has not asked the NHLPA to renegotiate the NHL/NHLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement after the League and union announced a four-year extension July 10 that takes the agreement through 2025-26. The Commissioner said the NHL and NHLPA are discussing short-term issues and the long-term economic impact. Short-term issues include what the season will look like; whether teams will play in home arenas, hubs or a hybrid; and potential for temporary divisional realignment. The Canada-United States border is closed to nonessential travel, and Canada has said it will remain so until the pandemic is under control. Commissioner Bettman said even if NHL teams could cross, the issue of quarantine remains. "If you're playing a regular schedule of games, you can't quarantine players for 14 days as you're moving in and out of the country, which is why, among the other issues that are going to impact a possible season, is we literally would have to realign and create a situation where maybe the teams in Canada only play each other, and we have to realign the way all of our teams are playing competitively," the Commissioner said. "It's part of the myriad of issues that we're dealing with, which is why when people say, 'Oh, well, they're trying to renegotiate,' the answer to all of this is, we've got a lot of issues and a lot of problems to deal with, and the system is going to be stressed for everyone. And is there an appetite for working through all of those issues?" The owners and the players split hockey-related revenue 50-50 under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. A portion of players' salaries is held in escrow during the accounting process. The extension capped escrow, starting at 20 percent for 2020-21 and descending to 6 percent by 2023-24. The NHL salary cap is tied to hockey-related revenue under the teams of the collective bargaining agreement as well. It will remain at $81.5 million until hockey-related revenue surpasses $3.3 billion, according to the extension. It is unclear how many fans, if any, could attend games in 2020-21. Governmental limits on gatherings for public events vary from market to market. "Whatever the revenues are, the players only get 50 percent," Commissioner Bettman said. "And if we overpay them and they don't pay us back in the short term, they have to pay us back over time. There will be stresses on the system, and we've had discussions about what those stresses are and how they might be dealt with, but we're not trying to say you must do X, Y and Z. We're trying to look for ways to continue to work together. "I know it's being portrayed as something else, and it's unfortunate and it's inaccurate, because at the end of the day, if the system gets stressed, it's going to be stressed for both of us. "If we have to pay out lots of cash, two-thirds of which is going to come back to us, that may cause some stress, but we'll have to deal with it if we're going to move forward. And by the same token, if the players owe us more money than anybody imagined, the salary cap could be flat or close to flat for the next five or six years, and players into the future will be repaying what we're owed. "So the [situation] isn't like, well, we demand a renegotiation. To the contrary, it's we see the way the system is going to be impacted. Is it something that makes sense to deal with in the context of everything else that we may have to do, which is out of the ordinary and unanticipated, in order to be in a position to possibly play?" ********************
  21. This is so stupid, I shouldn't even try; but ignorance and stupidity are two different things: stupid we can't fix, but education is enough to destroy ignorance. One obvious difference from this crap you covidiots are spewing and reality, is that Donnelly did not get fired for attending a public rally. He got fired for supporting and promoting, even singing as a herald, ignorant, stupid, and ultimately dangerous lies about how the general public should conduct themselves to help stem this deadly pandemic. His 'employer' not only reacted correctly, but reacted swiftly enough to call him out for his abhorrent behavior and call on all of us to denounce their messages and misinformation before too much damage was (hopefully) done. And he probably did not get fired "on Twitter"; Francesco knows to consult his lawyers and advisors before making public statements; and the statement was not to Donnelly, nor even telling him he was fired. It was to the media to quit using "Canucks Anthem Singer" and consider "Former Canucks Anthem Singer" in their reporting as this was now his proper title; it was not firing Donnelly "on Twitter". So much crap out of these noisy fools; so little knowledgeable advice. Democracy, free speech, other civil rights only enter this discussion as very important concerns that intelligent and informed people have previously fought and died to secure and defend. Lest we forget. Two world wars. Thousands of people getting their heads cracked, imprisoned, abused, killed, ostracized, etc., for things like women's right to vote, unions right to strike, and hundreds of other worthy causes that people sacrificed everything for because they are important and vital to proper growth of a modern enlightened society. There is no inherent infringement of these rights for the government to insist that the general public wear masks to protect each other during a deadly global pandemic. In Canada, we have actually suspended these cherished rights for the common good many times without losing any of our democratic rights and freedoms. These rights were not so sorely won so that entitled covidiots could endanger the public, spreading their misinformation along with a virus capable of killing millions of people all over the globe by not wearing masks and not social-distancing properly. In fact, we have strived to gain and protect these rights and freedoms so that megalomaniacs like Trump have greater difficulty succeeding in stirring up ignorant people with 'alternative facts' in order to allow them to behave like tyrannical dictators. [Trump is on record as saying, when asked by reporters, before he ran for prez, if he was going to run, that he was not going to run, "but if I (he) was, I (he) would run under the Republican banner; because those people are so stupid, they will believe anything I say."] - I don't have time to get the quote for you, but it is out there and I can produce it if it would make any of you think twice and stop spreading this nonsense. If you do not know these things, research them to ensure you are not guilty of this same spreading of misinformation, by coming on to this forum for example, and supporting other covidiots that are too lazy to learn the truth and think they are following some vanguard of protectors of the right to kill other people over a farting mask. Don't be doing that here. In fact, don't be doing that anywhere. Get woke. Or fart off and die (alone, preferably). But don't be trying to talk people into thwarting all our efforts to control the spread of this virus.
