  1. Excellent well thought out post!!!  Lots of work put into it.  I like your lines... Especially the 4th line!!!  I'm very excited to see a very effect bottom 3rd and 4th line... Might end up being the best in the league this coming year.  We haven't had a 3rd or 4th line thus good since 2010-11.

This team will be better all around and should make the playoffs... But it will be harder because the Pacific division as a whole got better this off season.  As long a Demko doesn't have a major injury during the season, we'll be in the show come playoff time.

Glad we've got Miller... Hope we keep him for the season and playoffs then let him walk.  His contract will create problems for our cap.  Need room to resigning Petey, Podz, Bo and ability to sign high end FA's or quality hockey trades to get the push for the cup in a couple of seasons.

    I’m not fine with that.

If he is not signed, you still have to take what you can get at TDL because it’s the last resort in mgmt saving any face through this process.

CGY made out okay because Tkachuk actually respected mgmt enough there to warn and provide an opportunity to obtain a much needed return. If Tkachuk

had pulled a Gaudreau, take a look at what CGY’s roster would look like now. No Kadri either. Club would be forced into being an instant rebuild candidate or at least wait until the following season’s UFA period to stack back up.

On that note, there are going to be options during the season, TDL and post season to acquire other players who will complement the club. There should not be any apprehension that replacements or potentially even improvements will come available, even if we have to wait for those opportunities. JTM is not the be all end all of this team’s future successes.

love him and want to extend him here but if being a realist, can only do so if it’s less than fair market value over term and that just ain’t happening.

for anyone having anxiety about it, here’s a quick look at the current potential top 50 UFAs for next season. obviously many of these players will likely be extended, but a few names stick out to me as solid hopefuls as to where JTM money could provide for present and future given our current core age demo (Barzal, Larkin, Pastrnak):

    PLAYER
    16. Timo Meier
    20. Matt Dumba
    27. Bo Horvat
    34. Ben Bishop
    46. Vince Dunn
    50. Cam Talbot

I appreciate the list of 23-24 FA's.  However as you just mentioned, even if JT walks away end of season, that money can go towards one of these FA's... Ideal?... Hell no!  But again as you mentioned, not the end all be all.

What I'm saying is... If by the td, we still have JT, unless there's a home run trade to be had for the management...  A offer they can't say no to, then hold on to him as a rental and let the team get some playoff experience.

  3. In light of the info from the Miller camp, unless a team calls and is willing to pay what nucks management wants (highly unlikely).  Allvin and co will probably risk going through the season, hoping JT doesn't get hurt seriously, and trade him as a rental at the deadline for whatever they can get.  Even if they're in a playoff position, they'll trade him.

... This isn't a great scenario no matter how you stack it.  But probably the most realistic.

Is anyone okay with him just riding out this contract and seeing how far we can go with him until end of season?

As it stands (compared to the alternatives of getting very little for him in a trade before season or at deadline when we're probably in a playoff spot.)... I'd be okay with it.  I look at it like he's a rental this year.  Am I wrong?

I can't make my mind up. I some times think paralysis by analysis, too many cooks etc. Kepp in mind a camel is a horse invented by a committee :)

My thoughts exactly.  We'll find out in time.  One thing I've noticed, regardless of new management, they reap the benefits and are stunted by previous management's decisions.

What I like about the transition from Burke to Nonis is, there was a complimentary transition.  Burke built the skaters and development of them through the affiliation with Manitoba.  While Nonis and staff worked the professional scouting to get Luongo.

So to me, Burke was similar to Benning in the area of aggressive moves and drafting (not safe picks or trades), whereas Nonis was much more methodical in his approach hence the 'no nuts' nick name.  I'm curious to see if the Allvin management group will be closer to a Nonis type.  So far it seems that way.... Complimentary moves versus major changes.

The target for Gillis was diffent than the target for Benning. MG drafting was not good but the team he built was a great team for a number of seasons. His win record I doubt will ever be repeated and he came this close to taking the Cup.  I don't know how many trophies Vcr garnered during his time as GM but it was a lot. Presidents trophy x 2 SC game 7 and he was voted not 10th best GM but el suprimo by his pears. He new the team needed a rebuild as did Torts. Unfortunately ownwership felt they new better. He did leave the team with Markstrom, Horvat, Tanev, Hamhuis amongst others as well as the Sedin tied up on a reasonable contract, that team had one hurrah after he left. And the Benning stepped in to draft the likes of Virtanen and Juolevi.

Benning if he was there for another 8 years would never earn the accolades that MG earned.

What I HATE is those fans that judge the entire success of the team by it's drafting. I judge the team by success on the ice and winning. I doubt if there will ever be a folly like signing Ericksson to a long term Cap heavy contract, never. That signing hung around Benning like a bad smell for years, never mind the Beagles, Rousell, Tim Schaller was another beauty. JB/FA wasted 8 years of this franchise. I'll say this MG to his detrment was arrogant, super intelligent and too much or Aquaman to handle/endure. JB also fired Gilman and Brackett, they were no yes men and far to smart for him.

Like life there is a lot of grey when breaking down the qualities of our past gms. Comparing one to the other, is like a dog chasing his tail. Truth is they contributed to the good and the bad.  They had their areas of strength and areas of weakness.  We can all agree that unfortunately, we haven't yet had a GM that has been well rounded enough to get us over the hump.

Let's hope that Jim and Patrick together, provide strength and stability across all departments.  I'm encouraged because the size and diversity of the management staff is a first for this franchise.  Hopefully this new regime translate to winning results on the ice in Van and Abby.  Exciting year!

I think you are overvaluing Miller in that trade. And CBJ can't afford to take on that amount of cap ($4.8m going out, $7.9m coming in)

Dickenson has negative value, probably would cost a 2nd round pick to move him right now, so the VAN 2023 2nd is basically just for CBJ to take on Dickenson. That means in exchange for Miller you are effectively looking to get Roslovic + Peeke + Ceulemans + 2023 1st. Not happening imo.

Realistically you need to take Roslovic, Dickenson and the VAN 2023 2nd out of the deal. Roslovic is a Columbus native too, they reportedly won't trade him. And CBJ don't have the cap space or roster spots to take on Dickenson.

So now you have the basic deal of Miller in exchange for Peeke + Ceulemans + 2023 1st. CBJ still can't afford to take on that much cap, so they might have to send a roster player (someone like Nyquist with $2m retention) to make the deal work.

I think this might be a deal that CBJ considers:

    To VAN: Nyquist ($2m retained) + Peeke + Ceulemans + 2023 1st

    To CBJ: Miller

    Anyway, those are my thoughts...cheers

Good thoughts there.  I've known about Roslovic being from that area.  Just not sure if 1, he has a no trade/movement clause and 2 if not, would they honour his wishes to stay.  Regardless, I don't think your trade proposal is unrealistic.  I would be okay with this trade but not sure where we'd fit Nyquist.

Canucks had pretty terrible draft luck during the Benning years but this one worked out pretty well anyway.

I guess the Pettersson one too, although I wonder where the Canucks had Makar on their list.

Demko, Podkolzin... A number of picks worked out....

The boom or bust first round inconsistencies were a problem for sure.  Gunslinger mentality  management.

The jury is out on the Allvin era.  Might turn out to be a little to safe, but all solid pick... Not necessarily the bpa.  It's been interesting so far, I have been impressed with Rutherford.  I trust his his vision, and appreciate the clear communication... Hopefully success will follow shortly.

I wonder now that they signed JG would CBJ look to deal Laine for a centre. I think I would rather Bemstrom than Roslovic. A lot cheaper, better at faceoffs and think he would be perfect for the 3c.

    Miller, Garland, Schenn for

    Laine, Bemstrom, Peeke, 23 2nd

Bemstrom is intriguing has decent speed decent shot enough size... But his fo are at 30%.  At that percentage, might as well give Dicky another chance:ph34r:

If we took this trade, I'd be disappointed.  Nice having Peeke but loss of Schenn would take some of the shine off the acquisition.  We don't have put him in to the trade to make it work.

Laine... He's similar to boeser with a slightly better shot.  Not a great skater... A bit bigger and hits sometimes but floats and cherry picks from time to time.  Streaky is an understatement.  There are to many nights where you don't notice him.  Also... Questioned if team oriented enough, appears to have very little loyalty... etc.

Put it this way... I'd rather have Miller Schenn Garland over Peeke Bemstrome, Laine and a 2nd.

    Peeke's the only upgrade.

By chance,  just ran into Podz and Kuz out for a stroll in the city tonight.

both looking happy and in great shape.

Im excited that Vasily is not the only Russian player on the team this year,

I think the moves to bring Mihky, and AK here will pay dividends for each.

Wow!  Did you talk with them?

  10. Bump!  Due to latest article reporting at least 2 teams in the metro interested in JT.

Now that JG is in Columbus... You look at their line up.  They need a top notch center so they can compete this coming year.  Otherwise, what was the point in getting JG in the first place? They have the cap space and enough young talent ready to challenge for a spot on the big club.

Roslovic, Peeke, Ceulemans and a 1st 2023 for

    JT Miller, Dickenson, and a 2023 2nd.

    Thoughts?

But seriously, Podz can be better than Dusty, just stay the course; keep learnin' and practisin' and livin' right and workin' out.

    Agreed!

I think Podz will end up being a comparable to Iggy when all is said and done.  Maybe not quite as skilled?  Or quite as many points but the leadership, toughness, great sportsmanship and character will be on or above Iggy's level.  Notice I use Iggy compared to 'the Mess'...

Yup. I just think our fans might be disappointed. It doesn't mean he won't be a strong contributor - I have no doubt he will be, but I just don't think he will put up the lofty numbers people are hoping for. His strengths may somewhat lie elsewhere.

I'm the biggest supporter of Podz and I do think he'll be a significant point producer as soon as this coming year... But that's not what I'm most excited about.  He just has the 'it' factor.  Character... Real character isn't talked or valued enough in sport or life for that matter.  For example, Brady has never had the stronger arm, agile mover etc... He just knows how to win, with grit, IQ, respect from his teammates because of his unwavering command of himself and confidence of his abilities... That all his teammates will do whatever he asks because they believe in him with their whole being.  They know they are in the presents if greatness.

Podz has that 'it factor.  He's very young but he has it.  He will never be the fastest skater, possess the hardest shot, moat skilled or the biggest, toughest guy... With the superior IQ.  It's that thing that can't be quantified.  And he's on our team.  With him, I believe we have the best chance at the cup since and even more so than 2011.  Just sayin'... Lol!;)

I've been one of Myrenberg's biggest supporters since he was drafted, as can be seen in the previous 5 pages.

@Hogz and Podz and @Kuzy maybe didn't follow this summer, but Myrenberg's last time on the ice was in our development camp where he looked really good.  So he's gone from an excellent year in the SHL, to impressing in the developmental camp (scrimmage) and intrasquad game.

Their fault for assuming that this was somehow a negative comment.

Tongue in cheek obviously!  Why would I call someone "elite" without it being a joke. Geez Louise

Fair enough... I didn't look back on your previous posts.  So I didn't catch the 'tongue in cheek' comment.  ^_^

Ehh I don't know, I haven't watched a second on TV this year let alone gone to a game. I know they're good, twitters given me the highlights and the updates.

It just doesn't resonate with a group of friends in their 20's I guess to spend a Friday or Saturday night that way. If it is, its for the cheap drinks before going out somewhere else that night.  Unfortunate, and maybe I'm wrong but numbers also don't lie.

Well if you and your boys want cheap beer and an opportunity to check out the scene, and be entertained by a decent product... Maybe you'll spot some ladies out having fun doing the same as you guys.  Find out where the party's headed after the game... Might be a lot of fun.... Speaking from experience tis all.

  16. Podz will have a great season.  He'll establish himself as a heart and soul, invaluable member of the core.  He has a elite attitude and work ethic.  Leads by example both on and off the ice.  He's a leader and now a mentor for his fellow comrades.  He will spearhead the trio of high end Russian talent on this team....  The likes we haven't seen since Bure and Mogilny.

Expect just under a 60 point season.  With 100+ hits, 60+ blocks and 51% faceoffs.

    Beast!!!!!

Mods... You may think it's to early but I vote to have a Podzilla (really just a Godzilla emoji?) added!  It's only a matter of time....

    Let's go!!!!!!:towel:

Awesome seeing him do pretty great in his rookie season !

I personally think he will get over the 40 point mark this coming season .

    22G 24A

I agree with your point total prediction as low end.  If he gets put and remains on top line I could see closer to 26G 30A.

Seeing this video rises a lot of questions:

    1) Why would a team give away their meeting dynamics via a public video? Now competing teams can see the way meetings are held, the type of questions raised etc. Other teams make decisions only between top 3 staff members I.e. Toronto only Shanny and Dubas make the calls in this video it shows whole organization sitting around the table.

Now other teams can consider this as well, its kind of dumb to give away organizational secrets.

    2) Canucks management talking about skill > character. This again teams can use that if they have players of high skill to trade they know Canucks prefer skill over character etc huge advantage to trade partners seeing this.

    3) If the draft tables are that close together it baffles my mind that no one thought of firmly planting them selves or their scouts right next to competitor tables and just eves drop on their discussions. They cant force you to move but you can hear clear as day what they are going to do.

Huge mistake to have the teams sitting right next to each other and basically can't prevent others from walking straight to their table and listening.

Way too naive to think that they're recklessly giving away their secrets... Come on now.
