  1. I'd like him on the cheap. Would be a great 4th line option with a spark of offense now and then.
  2. I'm still a Schmidt fan. Sad that things didn't work out for him here, but cap space was the really big issue I think.
  3. Maybe, but Ovie plays a more physical game than Jagr did.
  4. Hoping he keeps going, but the way he plays, I'd be surprised if his body lasts that long.
  5. Well, sad as it is, Holtby was pretty brutal overall last year and even if we're paying more, a decent backup might be nice.
  6. No, but I can't imagine it helped. He wasn't ready, both on and off the ice to be an NHL pro. That said, I don't think the primary conditions that led to his downfall were spawned in that moment, but far earlier in his life, no doubt. It was probably just a missed opportunity to teach a young man some strong values.
  7. I suppose it's all but said and done now. Moved to alumni section.
  8. Some good times for sure, but a lot to leave desired in the end. Hope he gets a chance to figure it out somewhere, and I'm mostly talking about off-ice stuff more than on-ice.
  9. I was just thinking the same thing. I don't think he hates Vancouver, but he's really a Golden Knight at heart and I get he feeling he'd be a lot happier back in Vegas.
  10. What's your source for stats? I'm getting difference numbers through hockey-reference. Stats via hockey reference only show hit stats from 2007-08 onwards: Jovo had 544 hits from 2007-08 onwards, which is 544 hits in 387 games at the end of his career. Chara: 1897 hits in 998 games (1.90 per game) - only aged 30+ for this duration Hedman: 877 hits in 816 games (1.07 per game) - entire career Ohlund: 413 hits in 274 games (1.51 per game) - aged 31+ for this duration Also, I would add that there are other factors to consider when it comes to hitting. Hitting is often inversely proportional to puck possession (though metrics do suggest OEL is okay at puck posession). There's also the question of how hard the hits are. That said, I would think it somewhat dishonest to claim that OEL isn't at all physical, but also inaccurate to claim he's a bigger physical presence than those like Chara, Hedman, Ohlund, and Jovo. For some more context, OEL has 201 hits (29th, among defensemen) in 112 games over the last two years (1.79 per game). Edler had 188 hits (42nd) over 111 games (1.69 per game). Adam Larsson was 10th with 278 hits and did it in 105 games (2.65), Pionk was 5th with 302 hits in 125 games (2.42) and 1st was Radko Gudas with 414 hits in 117 games (3.54 per game). OEL definitely plays a physical game, but I'm not sure how punishing his hitting is. I did a look into OEL hits on Youtube and came across a few: From 5 years ago: Seems to like banging guys against the boards.
  11. I'd say Bo is probably a 1st line centre on teams that lack good centre depth, but on most teams, I think he slots in better as a #2 probably. Still a very good 2nd line centre though--better than most. I'm wondering if we can have a line of Hoglander-Horvat-Garland and move Pearson down to the 3rd line. I'm not certain Pearson will bounce back and his offense is still acceptable for 3rd line levels.
  12. Personally, I think Hughes is quite far off this and even Petey is lower. Hughes doesn't have offense that matches Makar and his defense is far worse. EP hasn't hit a point-per-game yet. Makar almost won the Norris last year. I think he's a level above our guys.
  13. Honestly, that seems like a pretty good deal for Makar IMO. Hilarious that he's cheaper than Jones and Makar just finished 2nd in Norris voting. Jones didn't receive a single vote and has never been higher than 4th in Norris voting. I would put market value for Makar at closer to $10M right now. I expect him to be a top 10 D for the next 10 years or so. A lot of value and I think he took a discount. I'm betting 4 years from now we look at this as one of the better deals in the NHL.
  14. Tampa still needs to do some cap work though this summer. Unless they just sit out one of their stars all season again.
  15. Not surprised. Someone will give him a two-way deal probably. He didn't prove much in Vancouver IMO.
  16. Term isn't as bad since he's not even quite 27 yet, but still a bit risky. Couple of years ago, I would've said this was fine. This year it looks pretty scary for Chicago. If he can bounce back, he'll be worth it. Otherwise, this is OEL 2.0. Wait...
  17. I'm certainly hoping so. Edler had a renaissance after similar struggles in his early 30s too, so we know it can happen.
  18. Some research suggests that Garland was getting about 2nd line minutes, but maybe some 1st line at 17:55 TOI per game. Some other things I found: - He almost never penalty kills - Like Dickinson, he's very responsible with regards to penalties and draws a ton of penalties from the opposition - Looks like he played on the 2nd or 1st PP for most of the year for the Coyotes - Used quite heavily in offensive roles with average puck possession results - Not very physical and very light (165lbs and 5'10") - Surprisingly average number of shot blocks given his size and offensive usage - Led Coyotes forwards in takeaways in 2020-21 - 3 for 5 in shootouts last year and 8 for 15 in his career I'm VERY excited about this guy and think he makes our 2nd line an immediate threat if he performs like he did last year. His last year stats pro-rate to 20 goals, 45 assists, and 65 points. That with Horvat's goal-scoring makes me thrilled. Perfect place for Hoglander to explode this year too.
  19. Had some good memories. All the best to Rooster!
  20. A deeper look at some of his basic underlying metrics suggest that although his puck possession is alright, many of his other defensive stats look quite poor. His offense is obviously still solid, and it looks like he was used as a 2/3 guy in terms of TOI. I think we'd be wise not to expect too much out of him, but hope he can regain at least some of his game back. Some positives: - Reasonably responsible on the penalty front for a defenseman - Played on the 2nd PK unit last year - Decent puck possession - Two years removed from receiving some Norris attention (2018-19, he received a single 3rd place vote, so he finished 11th in voting) - Played on PP1 for Arizona all of last year - Had the highest PP goals per 60 of all Coyotes defensemen (goals by the team while on the ice for the PP)
