In this cap world you need good young prospects to make the big club. Trading them away in a package for something that looks greener on the other side of the fence can bite you in the ass hard. Sometimes it works most time it fails.

Get him away from the million watt beam he is under from this fan base and others and just let him play. It seems to be working out fine with Shink, Gaunce, Subban right now.

I agree with most of your post but the part about Gillis kind of irks me. We made it to the 7th game of the cup final with some of his moves. He was also all in in 2012 when he tried to get Shane Doan who just about signed here, was also in on the Weber sweep stakes as a hard player, had an offer sheet ready but couldn't compete with Philly [ Comcast corp.] He also got us Utica a great move on his part. When and if Benning gets us into that 2-3 year window for a cup run he will mortgage some of the future for pieces to bolster the club as well.

It gets confusing with this thread sometimes you hear he wants to play in Russia and some people say he wants to play here. It's seems hard to get any concrete evidence either way. If he decides to come over here does he really have the skill to step into the NHL? or does he want to go the AHL route that might mean 1-3 years?

This is the Jake i have wanted to see for awhile now. You can see the weight of high expectations on the Canucks just lifted off his shoulders and just go out and have fun. I imagine the Canuck's brain trust will keep a close eye on this as well, it will be interesting to see what they do with him after the WJC's. Do they send him to juniors to get 20+ minutes per game or back to the Canuck's at 10 per game? Should be lot's of discussion pro or con on this over the next 2 weeks.

I know hind sight is hind sight but Larkin could have easily gone in the top 5, lots of GM's and scouting combines got schooled on that pick. Detroit are masters at finding those kind of picks.
