  1. While I would be tempted to consider Cozens and a 1st for Hughes, I think there is an undervaluing of Hughes going on in general. He has had 2 of the top 10 offensive seasons by a Canuck defenseman and is 21. He is special, he is learning the defensive side of the game and should be afforded some leeway in that pursuit. Anyone who thinks, after a few games, that Rathbone is ready to be as good or better than the best offensive defenseman we have had since Reinhart, is nuts. He may be a very good nhl player but the jury is still out. I think that, for a change, the hockey gods smiled on Vancouver after getting screwed by the lottery again and again and let us draft Petersson and Hughes and we shouldn't be too quick to say goodbye to such a special player. I remember after Bure left, hockey was nowhere near as fun and Canucks waited awhile for Naslund to become a great goal scorer.
  2. Can you explain how he is a "complimentary piece"? A top 5-10 scoring RW on you first line?
  3. Drafted 40th This season 2nd most points from his draft class and could catch Hughes. Overall 4th most points from his draft class and best ppg with Zegras. This is, for now, maybe the best pick of the Benning Era, and he has a lot of good picks.
  4. I am getting very frustrated with Juolevi's lack of playing time. I think he is a great decision maker. He makes constructive passes virtually every time. His positioning has been very good. I don't understand as an organization why he sits so much. I think Edler is done. I love him and think he is a class act but Juolevi and Rathbone should play all remaining games. Seeing Edler a bit more does nothing for us.
  5. What about for lifting his leg during the fight. That was incredibly dangerous against a player without a helmet who is off balance. There should be an uproar over that. Department of player safety is a stupid name for a Department that seems to care very little about player safety.
  6. I can only assume that his team stepped up and with our flat cap we couldn't offer much for a player who doesn't even dominate the KHL. It would be interesting to see how Brisebois, Sautner, and Rafferty would do over there. I bet the would in the be top d pairings for a number of KHL teams.
  7. Let's just remember, Philip Larsen is still a top player in that league. He was going to be a bottom pair guy most likely. If he was demanding too much money and playing time then Benning did the right thing.
  8. I am a big fan of Jonah's. However, I think his success will come in the NHL based on 2 things: foot speed and decision making speed. Virtanen has shown that foot speed isn't enough to be top 6. Boeser isn't super fast but he processes things very fast and is a 1st liner. Reid Boucher had the brains but not enough of the footspeed. Until Gadjovich has a long stretch in the NHL we won't know if he has either. I am definitely rooting for him, I think his personality would be great to add to the team.
  9. Quinn Hughes is not getting the respect he deserves. He came in straight from 1 year of college and has become, already, the best offensive defenseman in club history. He is also pretty effective defensively and will only get better. A 3rd line center can be signed. A Quinn Hughes cannot be acquired, accept if you are lucky enough that John Chayka is an idiot and takes Barrett f-ing Hayton. If the draft was re-done, some GMs might take Hughes 1st OA IMHO. Ty Smith is a very good player but will not win Norris Trophies. Quinn will be in the running a bunch of times. Tbh I wouldn't trade him for Smith and Jack Hughes, let alone Zacha. He is a unicorn, just enjoy
  10. I really enjoy watching this team and with Juolevi, Rathbone, and Podkolzin on the horizon it's only going to get better. They always say you build through the draft. Demko, EP, Hughes, Boeser, Hogs, Virtanen, Podz, Juolevi, Rathbone, Lind, Woo, Tryamkin, have to be the best drafted group we've ever had. If this isn't enough for fans, what does it take?
  11. I think we just got a little spoiled with Boeser, Petersson and Hughes. He won't be top 3 in Calder voting but he is probably the 4th best u20 rookie we've had in the last 20 years. Petersson, Hughes, and Horvat would be the only ones above him? Unless I am missing someone?
  12. Where can I find a complete list of what picks the Canucks have in this draft?
  13. Coming out of the 2019 draft with Hoglander in the 2nd and Podz at 10OA has to be one of the best drafts from that position ever. These guys will be top 6 for years to come.
  14. I know it's petty and silly but I like that Karlsson is 11 pts in 10 playoff games and Dahlen has 10 pts in 10 games. I hoped he would be a more well rounded player than Dahlen but wouldn't expect him to ever outscore him.
  15. It is starting to seem like Jasek might actually become an nhler. He does a lot of good things.
  16. I watched him in Kelowna bunch and saw he had all the tools. Hope he puts it together. One more rocket for the defence, Edler, Myers, Bowie.
  17. I'm guessing that Gaudette was seen as not good enough for the top 6 and not strong enough or gritty enough for the bottom 6. With Podz coming and Pearson signed, it was just a chance to move on. Remember how disappointed we were with Motte? He turned out great. Perfect role player, maybe JB sees that in Highmore?
  18. In the last 2 years Pearson ranks 38th among Left Wingers, right behind Jamie Benn, Zach Parise, Anders Lee, and Rickard Rakell. I think those guys make more than 3.25?
  19. All signed when the world had no idea what to expect and teams had no cap left. All were 1 year deals. Carl Soderberg - 1 Million X 1 year - previous 5X4.75 million, 35 years old Derick Brassard - 1 MillionX 1 year - previous 5X5 mill, 33 years old Mike Hoffman - 4 Million X 1 year - previous 5X5.18 mill, 31 yrs old Mikko Koivu - 1.5 Million X 1 year(retired) - previous 2X5.5 mil, before that 7X6.75 mill, 38 years old Mikael Granlund - 3.75 Million (1 year term) - previous 3X5.75, same age as Pearson, not as good defensively, and marginally better numbers than Pearson and still more expensive even in the worst free agent market ever. You are comparing, in general, much older players who were negotiating at the worst possible time for a Free Agent in the history of the league. They all took one year deals just to have a spot. These are not, on the whole, a good comparison.
  20. I think Pearson is a bit better 200 foot player than Toffoli. I think he is close offensively. I don't think nhl contracts are determined solely on your last 30 games, if they were then Toffoli is worth 9 million. 1 year and 1 million less is not bad and, I think, accurate for what Tanner brings, compared to Toffoli. We didn't have the cap for Toffoli anyway. It also gave room for Hogz to get going. Sutter, Baertschi, and Spooner are off the books next year and Pearson is 500k cheaper. This will also leave some room for Podz and maybe Lind to earn a spot. I think JB did fine with this one.
  21. I saw that and thought it was a great show of confidence from Green. He is showing exactly the set of skills we drafted him for. If it weren't for injuries, he would have had more confidence and joined earlier. He is not getting points yet, but I am enjoying his play as much as Hoglander. I think he will be the next Edler/Salo. A great all around player who is even-keeled and you can just trust in all situations. Stay tuned!
  22. Toffoli has a career average of .58 pts per game. Boeser has .82 and he appears to be heating up. These 2 players are not comparable. Toffoli is a good 2nd line winger. Boeser is a top 10, maybe top 5 RW in the league. Toffoli is a comparable with Pearson, not Boeser.
  23. I think with his offence catching up to his defence and faceoffs, Bo would be a lock for Team Canada. Of course who knows when the next selection will be. I have always liked him but doubted if he would ever make Team Canada. His development has been very impressive.
  24. I would much rather that, especially as a young team with young leaders, less is expected. Keep the underestimations coming!
  25. I want to give a shout out to Sutter. He was really solid in the playoffs and picked up where he left off.
