  1. I am of the opinion that Petersson is a special talent and a special mentality. I think within a couple of years he will be bigger, stronger, better on faceoffs and will have learned how to use his considerable gifts to be one of the top 5 centers in the NHL. He really wants to be the best and really wants to win. I don't underestimate that. This is a pretty good package but I wouldn't do it.
  2. Luke Hughes is basically a full year younger than Power, Beniers, Johnson, Wallstedt. Question I have is will 1 more year of development make him better than those guys? Would he be #1 OA if he had another year of development like them?
  3. I agree they are hard to get. I also should've said he needs to sign. I read an article from St. Louis that said they would likely take him though because they couldn't re-sign him next year. I guess I am mostly trying to make the point that we should go big. Instead of waiting 3 years for a player to begin his career, we should get what we need. Instead of trading a really good player and character in Schmidt we should give him a chance to succeed.
  4. I am of the opinion that we are closer than most think. I think we desperately need a big RHD who can play big minutes. To Vancouver Colton Parayko To Blues 9 OA Simple deal. Then we re-sign Hamonic and keep Schmidt. It would be hard to argue that Parayko would mean less to us than anyone we could get at the 9 OA. St. Louis needs to re-sign Thomas, Kyrou, Dunn, Barbashev, Sanford, and maybe Hoffman, and Schwarz with only 17.5 million to do so. Parayko's 5.5 million would go a long way towards those salaries. Hughes(6) Parayko(5.5) Schmidt(5.9) Hamonic(2.5) OJ(1) Myers(6) Rathbone(925) I think this is what Schmidt needs as well, to be the puck mover with a stay at home guy beside him. We will get the best of out Hughes and Schmidt. This would be a solid defense with a lot of possible combinations and Schmidt can move over if there is an injury. Balanced and flexible.
  5. I don't think it is fair to question his integrity. I am fully confident as a competitive person he is dying inside that he doesn't get to play and prove himself. It might also affect him for the rest of his life in many ways.
  6. Ferland gets forgotten, I was pretty psyched when he got that inked, sadly his career is over, but he would have made us a much better team over the last couple of years.
  7. I have a feeling that, while he is a bpa guy, because of the balanced nature of the top 10 this year, need will factor in more than usual and Benning would take MacTavish of that group if he has the choice. After trading Gaudette and Madden, we are really thin at center.
  8. Mediocre was the wrong word. I meant to say, of the 32 1st line centers in the league I didn't think he would be in the top 15. Of course any 1st line center in the NHL is very good.
  9. From things I have read, I am starting to think that Eklund and Wallstedt might end up being the best two players in the draft. I think teams ignore all the hype on the internet and know this. I would be surprised if Eklund lasts past top 5 but because of the boycott by many on drafting goalies high, it will be interesting to see where Wallstedt goes. I personally don't think either will be available for us. It seems like McTavish might be getting a little overhyped and the teams' scouts may not buy it. I think he has a better chance of falling to us. I think drafting should be done by BPA and based on the players possible ceilings. My take on ceilings: (based on reading and some watching) Power - top pairing dman but not Norris caliber Beniers - mediocre 1st line center or excellent 2nd liner Eklund - 1st line star, top 10 nhl scorer Clarke - #1 defenseman, possible Norris candidate on the right team in 5 years Hughes - # 1 defenseman, possible Norris candidate on the right team in 5 years Wallstedt - Vezina candidate McTavish - Excellent 2nd line center, PKer, Guenther - 1st line winger, 30 goals, 30 assists Johnson - 1st line winger, 70 pts Edvinsson - Top pairing defensemen, but not Norris Caliber I may be totally wrong but I think that these are their ceilings. Of course they also all have different floors, but if I am a scout, I am using a top 10 pick to get the best possible talent I can. Then it is up to my team to develop the best out of them. Based on this, I think 2 of MacTavish, Guenther, Johnson and Edvinsson will be available for us.
  10. 2022 1st Round contigent on Parayko resigning, 2021 2nd round, OJ For Parayko We take BPA this year. Hughes Parayko Schmidt Hamonic Rathbone Myers This would be a heck of a d for a few years.
  11. I think drafting a top pairing rhd is a crapshoot. We are not likely to get Clarke. Even with him there is no guarantee he will be top pairing material. I think we should go hard after Parayko. Imagine bring out Parayko followed by Myers for the next 5 years. Problem solved. I have read that the Blues might be looking to move on from Parayko because of their long term commitments to Faulk and Krug. I don't know what it would take but it would end the defense search for a few years and we could focus elsewhere.
  12. I think that OJ will be our long term Edler replacement. Smart, calm, mobile, great passer. Can play all situations. I understand the hype of Rathbone and hope he is as great as others hope but I think OJ has a good, long career ahead of him.
  13. Agreed. I think OJ is a top 4 dman long term. I thought he played really well when given the chance this year. He is a great passer and a solid all-around player. If we are making a trade at this point it should be to fill holes. Left D is not a hole. What is the point?
  14. Agreed on these points. I was looking at it as bpa and I think Dach and Zegras are a cut above the rest. For organizational fit, Seider would be the only one better than Podz though.
  15. Question. Right now, what players would you take over Podz from his draft year? For me, Dach, Zegras, Seider. Toss up for Hughes, Byram, Kakko He hasn't played a game but I feel like he has a very unique combination of size, skill, vision, and insane determination that will make him special. We'll see.
  16. Hughes is the youngest and I think he will make huge strides next year.
  17. I actually think Rasmussen is going to top out at 3rd line center and I think OJ has more value. He will be a top 4 dman for Detroit and has the hockey IQ to play both pp and pk and his ceiling is higher than Rasmussen. If we wouldn Hughes and Rathbone and Clarke weren't going to be Canucks, I would not trade OJ. I think it's a great package for both teams' long term needs.
  18. I would like to see the following: Juolevi, #9 OA + Gadjovich For Rasmussen + #6 OA Only if Clarke is still available at 6th. We get our huge 3rd line center and rhd prospect, they get an nhl top 4 ready lhd with big upside, Wallstedt and Gadjovich. I think it suits both teams.
  19. I also like the idea of signing Wennberg. He seems like a solid all-around player, offensive and defensive. He will give us much more flexibility than Sutter did as a 3rd line guy. He can easily be a 2nd line center if Bo or EP are out. He would be a great player to start Podkolzin with. Would be the best center he ever played with. Miller EP Boes Pearson BH Hogs Motte Wennberg Podz That is a very strong top 9 with some real versatility and depth. Lind and Gadjovich will be strong top 9 callups.
  20. Sorry, I corrected that. I realized after, but I still don't think they make that trade. We also need Centers and D more than wingers at this point.
  21. I don't think they would give him up for that package. Great player though, would look good on any team.
  22. We need big, solid RHD who are strong in their own end. I say we re-sign Hamonic and give him a full training camp. Then sign Hakanpaa as well. This gives us some RHD depth while we see if Woo or anyone else we draft is capable. We can afford these guys and they will allow our more offensive-minded players to do their thing. Schmidt can play both so he will give us some flexibility. We could sign Edler for 1 year at a much reduced rate to offer some leadership and continuity as well. You need 9 nhl defencemen to make it through the year with injuries. Hughes Hamonic Schmidt Myers OJ Hakanpaa Edler Rathbone Woo Affordable, Versatile, Big. Not bad
  23. I am certainly not an expert on NHL Defence, but I thought OJ was really solid last year. I thought he played well positionally and I don't think I saw him make a bad pass. I can't say the same for all the other Canucks d. I don't get why he played so little and why so many people are seemingly down on OJ. He is ready to go. He needs to be given more consistent responsibility to really flourish.
  24. I'll take a Starsky and Hutch reference over the standard, lame Hughesy.
  25. I would expect Eichel to get a lot more than a high 1st round pick. Anaheim would have to add.
