  1. Now? No, given their age, but if they were all the same age, definitely. A combine 100+ points, at worst with both Marchessault and Stephenson. Compared to a possible 100+ points with Pettersson. Marchessault have been a proven playoff performer in the past, just coming off a Conn Smythe win, and was one of the favourites to win in 2018. Stephenson is an underrated elite defender. I would argue equal to Pettersson.
  2. Judging by your standards, Ovechkin is/was a premium Selke forward, because he had Selke votes earlier on his career.
  3. Age aside, I would much rather have Stephenson and Marchessault (on top of what we already have), then Pettersson.
  4. I highly doubt GMs really look at Selke voting as an indicator of premium two-way forwards. Before this season, Pettersson didn’t even get any single Selke votes. Until Pettersson can continuously be in contention for the Selke, you can hardly call him a premium Selke forward. All along I’ve been saying Pettersson should be signed for 5yrs. It’s the best scenario for both parties.
  5. The “potential” deal has already expired, when we signed him to a bridge deal. You look at Kaprizov, who needed an extension. He signed for 9m, coming off a 108 points season. There is your comparable. Pettersson gets a 1.5m more, because he plays center.
  6. A team with not a single PPG player just won the Cup. Scoring depth > one elite 100+ point guy.
  7. You don’t pay a player based off one career year. Pettersson could easily go back to his career production rate, before this season, which was just under a PPG rate.
  8. The market value for a player like Pettersson is around 9.5m-10.5m, anyway. He not risking anything, causes he’s not committing to a team long term. A risk would be signing a long term deal, and the team doesn’t meet your expectations throughout your contract. And like I said, even if it doesn’t workout, the team will probably trade him within 3-4 year of his contract. He could also ask to be traded to a lesser taxed city, as well. If Pettersson continues to scored near a 100 points rate, until he’s 30. There’s no doubt teams will be lining up to bid on his service on a max deal. Miller signed a max extension at 29, which doesn’t start until he’s 30. Same with Huberdeau, Kadri, and Karlsson. Ovechkin at 35, signed for 5 years.
  9. I’ve already mentioned this, in this thread, but I think the best scenario for both parties is they agree on a 5yrs deal worth 9.5m-10.5m. He’d still be paid accordingly with the other top salaries around the league, and this gives him an idea where the team is at within that 5 year period, without committing to the team long term. This also gives him another chance for an even bigger deal, when it expires. On the flip side, if he continues to be the player we saw this past season. The team has him at a bargain for 5 more years, in his prime. Also, if the team is still in no-man’s land in year 3-4 of his contract. We probably can sell him off and ask for a ransom with his cap hit being so low.
  10. Not really. We can all agree White isn’t an MLB pitcher, but his job isn’t for high leverage situations. In the Seattle series, Pearson, Garcia, and, Romano cost us the first two games. Before that, against the Red Sox, it was Swanson, that cost us the last game of the series. Against Oakland, Romano blew a save in one of the games. Those are just the most recent games that I can think of, but I’m pretty sure there were more throughout the season.
  11. You know what’s weird? The Jays have the 5th best bullpen in the entire league, but it never seem that way with how they keeps on blowing games.
  12. Shouldn’t have been in that position in the first place. Buck Martinez really jinxed the team, by saying, “they have a really good chance of winning this series, tomorrow.”.
  13. Well many here thought Miller will sign for 9m+, when I said he’ll likely get somewhere between 7-8m. So, I think I can gauge the market better than most. I think Kaprizov is the closest comparison to Pettersson. He scored 108 points, the year he needed an extension and was signed to a mid-term deal at 9m. I see similar value there, although Pettersson is a two-way centermen. He’ll likely get a bit more, somewhere between 9.5m-10.5m.
  14. I wonder if this changes LeBron’s mind of not retiring.
  15. Only McDavid and Draisaitl have scored more points than MacKinnon since 2017. He’s been nominated 3-times for the Hart, won a Lady Byng, and Stanley Cup during that time. Just came off a 117 points season, while only playing 70 games. He’s definitely worth 14m, with the cap inflation.
  16. Again, anyone who thinks Pettersson is getting anywhere near 12m+ is totally off base of what his true market value is. People like to talk about inflation of the cap and how that will affect Pettersson’s new contract. However, like I’ve mentioned numerous times. McDavid was the highest paid players in the 2018 season (deservingly so) and since then no one was paid more than him, despite the cap rising 7%. That is until MacKinnon’s new contract, this year. And even then, he’s only making a few hundred thousands more than McDavid. So the question is why isn’t MacKinnon making 14m+, when the cap inflation increased by 7%, since 2018?
  17. Varsho and Kirk, do what they do best in crucial situations. Nothing.
  18. Teo felt terrible for crushing the Blue Jays fan’s souls, the last two games. So, he repaid them on that Belt HR.
  19. I think the poster boy for “you can’t win with…” is Phil Kessel. Obviously, he didn’t do much during this playoff run with the Knights, but he was a crucial player for Pittsburgh during their back-to-back runs.
  20. If the Angels are selling. I wouldn’t mind bringing back Brandon Drury. Can play 1B, 2B, 3B, and both corner outfields. Not sure, how much he’s worth though. Martinez, White, Espinal, and some low end prospects should be enough.
  21. I’ll give up Martinez for one of those guys. He has a lot of raw power, but a lot of swing n’ misses. Doesn’t hit for average, either. Also, Addison Barger probably has more upside than Martinez. The problem with trading for Bellinger is that the Jays will have too many everyday outfielders. Unless you play Bellinger at first. Then, you’ll have too many first basemen with Belt and Vladdy already there. So, I don’t really see a fit with Bellinger on the Jays.
