It's not that we won't get them, but you are cutting your chances in half (or more), and should you not get one of the top 3 picks you are potentially dropping even more in the standings (should other teams behind you win). I'd be ok with sitting at 28th, as that means the lowest pick you can get is now 6th overall. The way the draft is set up and the percentage of winning a good pick just makes it harder to take the more you win and higher you get in the standings.
