  1. In my absolute honest opinion, I think we could be a real front runner for Tavares. I’m not saying we’ll for sure sign him, but, we can offer him things most teams can’t.

I guess we could all stop being mad at Gagner if he convinced his friend to come here.

The advantage we do have isn't just cap space, its Aqulini's willingness to approve bonus-heavy, front loaded deals. I'd have to run it by one of our resident cap experts but I think with the salary variance allowed JT could make something like 15-16 mil per year in actual money in the first few years of the deal mostly on bonuses, not many, if any other teams have the ability or willingness to do that.

Who was the last big name free agent the Canucks landed? Mats Sundin? After waiting half a year for him to decide to keep playing and Gillis gave him an over the top contract offer as well.

Mind you this was when the Canucks were actually relevant.

Evander Kane and Milan Lucic both spurned the Canucks. Not even BC guys wanna play here when they have options?

It's not a legit possibility as all just like the Stamkos, Karlsson and Kopitar pipe dreams and all other future big names to hit free agency including Drew Doughty etc.
