  1. I was just browsing the Abby stats and dang, Impressed with Linus’s first year. I liked the puck protection and in tight plays he showed in development/training camp. Hope he can keep taking steps in his development. I see a Pearson like player in him.
  2. No, you misunderstood my point. Trouba’s ability for heavy body checks is like a boxer’s punching power ability. Both are attributes. You saying Trouba specifically targeted the head in this case imo is an exaggeration. A fair minded viewing of Trouba’s posture is just like any other solid, lined up bodycheck. Meier lapsed for a moment and got crushed-mostly through the body but got his head rung too. Like in boxing, if you get caught leaning forward and unaware, its going to hurt. Its an inherent risk and consented to. Luckily Meier is OK but dont conflate your opinion of Trouba with what happened. The videos affirm your distaste of Trouba but I dont see anything that shocks me, all things considered.
  3. This is like telling a boxer who has punching power not to use it (within the rules). If I know my opponent has KO potential you better believe Im aware of that, yet that doesnt mean it still cant happen. I guarantee you Meier takes responsibility on that play for not being aware. He got caught and rocked-its as simple as that. He was suspended once w the Canucks, not to mention he was a good skater and scorer? And given his wrecking ball reputation I doubt guys wanted to drop the gloves w him either. Canucks sorely lack a Raffi Torres. Canucks need a Zadarov/McNabb/Gudas/Paul/Wilson type of player. I bet guys like Miller & Joshua would play a bigger game with someone like that on the team.
  4. Good Tocchett interview on Missin Curfew

  5. IMO: Aman is a lock for next year and I hope he is re-signed long term. He’s got the potential to develop into a 3C. Hoagie is either on the roster or traded…I think he will either flourish with Tocc or drive him up the wall if his details havnt improved. But he has the potential to be an impact player even if in a 3rd line role. Podz-it’s good they still have some flexibility with him. He’s a late bloomer to me so Im with being patient. Johansson is a wild card-gets big praise from Mike Zanier but they dont need to rush him either. Rathbone-his defensive game is hurting his chances. Woo is the most intriguing for me. He wont make it past waivers. Can he be a #7 D man and play limited games/adjust to the NHL? Im ok with bringing this kid along slowly if he makes the roster. Otherwise like Rathbone his trade value isnt that high (but no doubt will get plucked off waivers). The rest of the youngin’s keep developing in the AHL.
  6. Despite Podz not getting much production, I think having Tocchett will get this guy headed in the right direction. Points will come (he’s got skills) but just needs to focus on being that “moose” like Tocc wants.
  7. Dont care for S&P but this interview w Mile Zanier is excellent. Lots of good tidbits on Canucks prospects and he is a believer in FJ. If the Canucks snag another hidden gem that would be great for the back end. (Canucks should hire Zanier)
  8. JT Compher has been my #1 choice for awhile but $$$ I think he will be in high demand. If the Canucks could get him in at a fair cap hit/go a bit cheaper in the wings I would be more than happy. Sundqvist Ive been watching.. Steady but reminds a lot of Grandlund. Solid but doesnt really excel at anything + his skating is just average. Kampf would be a good add but another guy who will be in demand. Athanasiou no way. Im betting on Bleuger. Agreed that expecting Aman to be that type of 3/4 year player in his sophomore season is a bit much….I was just thinking of how difficult it might be to trade for or sign (ideally) a preferable younger, responsible 2 way C. Aman has all the traits I like in a 3C minus his faceoff ability at this point. Bring back Juho Lammigoals
  9. Barbashev isnt very good on face offs (check his stats) and from what I recall played a lot of wing this year as well. Canucks need an very responsible 3C that can win key face offs and help drive play towards / offensive zone. Ive been looking around and there arnt a lot of options in free agency. If Teddy Bleuger doesnt re-sign with LVGK-he could be an option. Allvin would be very familiar w/ from his PIT days. Ideally, Nils Aman works hard/improves on his faceoffs and can grow into that role. Hes got the work ethic for it.
  10. Well I was dead wrong on Plant v Benevidez. DB was the more ferocious fighter and for that reason I gotta go with Tank. Hilarious interview as well:
  11. If he can truly level up his athleticism in the off season I have no problem keeping him. My gripe w him was when he is not producing, how is he helping his team? He needs to be harder to play against, and if he can do that PDG JTM BB could be a very good line. He’s still so young that developing quickness is not out of the question at all. Anerobic conditioning is all about pushing to uncomfortable levels ala Tocchett.
  12. I very much like Brock and want to see him succeed. And he very much needs to take his athleticism to another level if he wants to be a leader on this team. So I hope he does.
  13. Im no fan of that but they arnt doing the reporting.
  14. This is a tough one for me. Gotta cheer against Bo, but also would love to see what happens if CAR loses. Ill go with NYI for this series
  15. Im in the same boat (not that there’s much of a choice). Ill take him at his word and that he will come to camp expecting to perform at a high level. He strikes me as someone who cares, and after a tough year/getting towards the end of his career he will want to bounce back. Plus the D zone play under Boudreau was terrible. Id even like to see how Poolman does (if he returns) under Tocchett. Guys like him who arnt 1 man break out machines like Hughes need that structure. Hronek seemed to do well as the 1 timer option on the left half wall in DET. Maybe OEL feeding him the puck/getting his shot through at the point can up the ante for PP2.
  16. TG still has a young family here in VAN and it was one of big reasons for becoming an AGM here (proximity).
  17. This kid looks good. Plays a very calm/steady game. Good skater and uses his size. I think the Canucks have got a player here. Todd Harvey really wanted to draft this kid. Klimovich too
