  1. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/mar/19/justin-trudeau-canada-china-trial-michael-spavor-espionage China up their usual routine... secret trial against one of the Michaels. Canada needs to stop acting so nice and outright embarrass the CCP. Instead of just complaining and objecting, just go out and take the high road by saying that China should reciprocate the courtesy given to Meng. That Canada has acted in complete transparency, allowed consular services, access to legal assistance and behaved with honourably... that if China doesn't want to appear uncultured and uncivilized, that it should behave the same. CCP is all about "face"... might as throw some egg at it.
  2. I always felt that the 09-10 Canucks were better than the 10-11 Canucks. They felt more complete. Had more truculent players who were more than willing to drop the drop the glove or play a little more chippy.... Rypien, Hordichuk, SOB, Steve Bernier, etc.
  3. There are stories (mostly from the US) of people who are actually too ill to use a mask being put into uncomfortable situations due to the guidelines (or improper understanding of it). I think former NHLer Brendan Witt's wife is going through a lawsuit. She was manhandled by the manager to leave the store, even though she is still battling cancer and has asthma. She actually does have medical exemption, but the manager still forced her out as she "didn't have papers" with her. Even though CDC guidelines said people with medical exemptions are allowed to skip wearing a mask and that it is actually illegal in the US to "ask for papers" when it involves medical or disability issues. The problem when there are recommendations set in place, where people who poorly understand such rules are overly zealous on enforcing them.
  4. IIRC, wasn't there a time when Ian Clarke wasn't as highly touted in Vancouver? I think it was pre-Luongo era... the Canucks even used a very late round draft pick to choose to draft his son. I vaguely remember CDC being p/o'd back then.
  5. A bit of a sell off midday. Nothing like being up 5 figures... down the same amount.. then ending up about even.
  6. If assuming this individual really was medically exempt, then the cop did the wrong thing. I think they should just let people with "exemption" not wear masks, but record all their details. Check out whether it's legit, if it's fake, massive fine. Regardless of whether it's a good idea for someone with a medical condition to travel without a mask should be irrelevant. The authority shouldn't be policing "what you ought to do" since it will ultimately open a huge can of worms. Of course, screw her if she's lying.
  7. Grigorenko? Decent size, entering his prime? Decent stats in the AHL and the KHL. Appears to be maybe a 30~ points guy in the NHL? Either than him being a top prospect for the Sabres at one time, what's the scouting report on this guy?
  8. Depending on the exchange rate, it's sometimes cheaper to just get a US plan with North American roaming than a Canadian plan.
  9. Not trying to sound crass... but oral, anal and/or pulling out would alleviate a lot of the pregnancies....
  10. https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/entry/vancouver-overpopulation-ads-climate-change_ca_5f6e717cc5b64deddeedbf08 Research has shown that an unequal distribution of resources is actually more to blame for the climate crisis than increasing numbers of people. “Focusing on human numbers obscures the true driver of many of our ecological woes. That is, the waste and inequality generated by modern capitalism and its focus on endless growth and profit accumulation,” Nottingham University researcher Heather Alberro wrote in The Conversation. “Blaming human population growth – often in poorer regions – risks fuelling a racist backlash and displaces blame from the powerful industries that continue to pollute the atmosphere.” And even then, researchers note that the world population is actually expected to decline on its own.
  11. But to be fair, most of Canada's population is within the thin 200km strip parallel with the US border. RoBeLus aren't building 5G networks along the Westcoast Trail or somewhere 50km north of Whitehorse. If anything, they have an advantage where they can encompass the majority of Canada's population by focusing on only a dozen spots or so.... Golden Triangle, St. Lawrence, GVRD, Vancouver Island, Calgary, Edmonton, Red River Region, Regina, each Atlantic provinces, BC Interior, Ottawa/Gatineau.
  12. Yet many seems to protest in West for "overpopulation". Remember all those signs around Vancouver about how people shouldn't have kids? Funny how they put them in Canada and not like... in Somalia or Brazil or Indonesia.
  13. Remember all those ads RoBelus ran when there were rumours of Verizon entering the market? How it's bad for Canada, unfair competition, anti-Canadanism, or whatever.
  14. I wonder how much does it relate to the restrictions on the outflow of funds from India?
  15. The British tabloid has always been barely better than liner for a bird cage.... not sure how Meghan wouldn't have known about that. As a Hollywood celebrity, she should be aware of it as well. What I have issue is that Meghan is throwing out lots of accusations and inferring racism on issues that may seem believable to those who doesn't understand the full context of things. An example would be complaining that Archie not be officially a prince (at birth).... some may say it's due to him being partially black.... but it makes more sense if Archie isn't a prince. He isn't in the primogeniture family.... many of the non-primogeniture members aren't bestowed the title of prince or princess either. Prince Edward's kids are just Lady and Viscount, Princess Anne's children and grandchildren (same tier as Archie) doesn't have any titles (not even noble titles)... probably way more if you really start digging the family tree. Meghan (and Harry) definitely comes off as entitled and calculated. Prince Philip is still hospitalized and probably on his death bed, but you come out blasting your family. Imagine if it was some socialite like.... Paris Hilton doing the exact same thing... would people be as understanding or would people just write her off as some opportunistic gold digger? Or if Meghan was 100% white.
  16. I've wondered about this often... I'm glad that many others have had similar thoughts as me.
  17. Or maybe have Domi as the 2nd line scoring centre... then have Bo focused as the shutdown centre? If the Canucks roll only 3 lines and have the 4th lines playing around 9-12 minutes per night.... it may be doable?
  18. Maybe it's due to Covid, myself in a different stage in life, or the current state of the franchise... but the Whitecaps almost feel non-existent to me now. I have to more or less remind myself (and my wife) that we used to be season ticket holders for a few years.
  19. Nah... he's too high profile to disappear. He'll "reappear" with a "heart-felt apology" on the error of his ways and how he hurt the feelings of the Chinese/HK people, etc. China should just use 1 standard video and just deepfake a person's face on it as they need it.
  20. True to some extent, but still somewhat different. I don't know Korea, but the Japanese wear when they are sick, they rarely wear when they are not sick. Unless you're female and you're too lazy to put make-up on. Although it would be nice to have those types of mask for here. Scented bubbles where you pop it and it makes your mask smell like mint, lemon, floral, etc.
  21. From my own Vancouverite's perspective.... the Canucks had more peaks and more valleys. The Buffalo Sabres were more "average", with only this decade being a really low point for the franchise overall.
  22. Well yeah, those throwing parties or purposely travelling even when they've been exposed.... throw the book at them. Assuming the coronavirus mutates often enough and I'm assuming it's more potent than the regular flu. If the seasonal flu already affect the elderly and those who are immuno-compromised.... this may be an on-going issue. I have no idea how the vaccines will be rolled out in the future. Will it be like the flu shot where it's usually available during the colder season and people take it once per year? We sometimes hear about how "this year's flu shot isn't as effective for the prevalent strain..." would it be the same for coronaviruses? I'm just worried that "reduced efficiency" might still mean a trip to the ICU (or worse) for some people. If the coronavirus is overall more potent than the "regular flu" we have, and it mutates just as often... does it really seems ridiculous that people will still be wearing masks going for even after the majority of people have been vaccinated?
  23. I'm asking about beyond this currently pandemic. Assuming the coronavirus will be floating around the population for here on out, like the regular flu..... everyone has to wear a mask going forward until the end of time? Will such restriction only stop for this virus? Should similar restrictions be applied to other illnesses? There are already instances of people being whisked away to places unknown to quarantine, the authorities recommending complete isolation of minors, civilians with handcuffs and taking matters into their own hands, etc. I'm just wondering at what point will we as a collective group will look at the mirror and finally realized that society has went off in the deep end.
