A Game Of Thrones: To the point of the TV show, no spoilers beyond that

my actual problem is not the nudity, it's hbo's current lack of quality. game of thrones, true blood, boardwalk empire, girls and veep can't hold a candle to sopranos, six feet under, the wire, oz, curb your enthusiasm and the flight of the conchords. i can't stand when cinema and tv become mediums for popcorn entertainment.

why wasn't the sarah connor chronicles on cable instead of dexter, weeds or true blood? at least on cable, they would let them complete the story arc before pulling the plug. now the same thing will happen to hannibal i'm afraid. these kind of shows aren't meant to survive on network tv. these two are way better than what's on hbo right now. but that's just my opinion.

What does quality even mean? It's only a word you use when you don't know what exactly it is you are talking about and base your argument solely on "I don't like it".

I don't see how Sopranos and GoT can be on different levels for you. They are pretty much equally good. For me, GoT is even better because:

1) structurally, it doesn't have these 'self-contained' or 'theme-based' throw away episodes that every TV show seems to suffer from. Not every scene, but at least every episode pushes the plot forward.

2) it has a far bigger production. The cost of the 1st season was like $100 million or something. And Daenary's dragons are only gonna get bigger...

3) the story lines challenge the limits of contemporary story telling themes, touches every genre you can think of and even incorporates troubles of our governments in the real world (Cersei vs the Iron Bank of Braavos, Daenerys vs the 'insurgents'... I'm a little ahead with the books).

4) character wise, with a few exceptions, there is almost no such thing a pure protagonist or a pure antagonist. And unless you have read the books, you actually have no idea what's gonna happen next. I mean, no non book-readers saw Red Wedding coming...

To be fair, the one thing I don't like about the GoT is the damn music... so needlessly dramatic. Like when Joffrey was trying to drawn Ser Dontos with wine in S2E1.

Since Breaking Bad has concluded, Game of Thrones is the best show on TV at the moment. Honestly, it's probably one of the best ever. Looking at the Walking Dead on AMC compared to its comic predecessors, it is definitely toned down. The comics are a lot more dark and unforgiving. I think HBO is the only option to make a Dark Tower series that is true to the source. It may prove difficult, but if anyone can pull it off, it is HBO.

And to the current discussion, I love GoT (not near as much as the books but still) but I wouldn't put it anywhere near the likes of Soprano, Deadwood, the Wire, and Six Feet Under. Maybe it's on par with Breaking Bad.

That being said, it's absolutely one of the best adaptations from literature to exist. Probably only second to LOTR. I don't think any other franchise comes close

I don't hold Deadwood as high a regard as you do... 3rd season was a major disappointment.

stop trying to get me to adopt an antiquated technology! How old is the printing press? the first model was made in China in 1041.... Gutenberg created his in 1450. ANCIENT technology and a dead medium.

If you enjoy reading 1.77 million words (and counting) on your computer screen, go ahead.

I would agree partially with you about GoT. I can think of some scenes that weren't present in the book that were put in to fulfill the boob quota given by the creators D&D. But is it so distracting that it takes away from the rest of the show? I don't think so. And some of the nudity (especially in the case of Dany) is not porn but I'd love to know why you think so

Did you even finish Deadwood? Also, I didn't know you watched Six Feet Under.

Veep is pretty funny, come on.

and what is with this "popcorn entertainment" buzzword/phrase I read around CDC all the time?

"10/10 loved the Avengers, great popcorn flick!"

as opposed to what? wine-and-cheese movies like Fanny and Alexander? as a wine-and-cheese flick, would The Avengers be a 2/10?

The popcorn distracts you from the movie's horrid nature.

Mmm....this popcorn is good. The movie must be, too.
