King of the ES
Finally, a good 2nd round pick from the Gillis camp. That's a first.
HockeyHobo73
Does anyone know what the TSN panel said about him when we drafted him? I missed it. I just started watching.
zombieksa
So I am assuming the nucks will most likely take a goalie, defenseman and another winger in our later rounds. Hopefully some BC blood...
CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Wow another overager.... Took Alex Grenier last year and now Alex Mallet, this guy has a big package of size, skill, grit and toughness. You dont find these guys around the draft very often.....very happy with this pick..
oldnews
nhl.com has him as a left wing, but the rest of the sources list him as a center - a gritty depth center with skill sounds like another appropriate pick. 34 goals, 81 points, 123 pim, +27, 13 pts in 10 playoff games. BabychStache
Smart move imo. With the potential of some of the other youngsters on the wolves getting a promotion they needed to add a few guys down there that could potentially come up for injuries. I expect him to challenge Volpatti, Kassian, Duco, Pinizotto, etc at training camp. I am not saying he is better than those guys, but some more competition is a good thing. VAN_FAN_MATT
10 goals,15 assists and a +11 in 21 playoff games this past spring is pretty impressive.

komodo1970
They definately addressed toughness with this one. Looks to be a great pick. I am curious, however, to know where Henrick Samuelsson went.

DaMacNamedDre
Will be interesting to see if The Mallet comes in hardbody at camp. Like both picks so far. non euro pansy. almost as if management has finally figured out that Cups are built on savagery.

JC2
At this point finding star talent is rare so if Mallet could become a steady bottom six player than I would consider the pick a success, the 57th round pick may as well be an early 3rd round pick anyways. The benefit of choosing older players is, assuming their conditioning is up to par, they can make the transition to the higher levels faster and it seems based on the article that he can compete against stronger players so he could very well make it to the AHL next season. The drawbacks of choosing older players is that they have a shorter window of development and their stats could be inflated since they were in the junior leagues for too long. Only time will tell like all players taken in the draft regardless of which round he has potential, its just a matter of fulfilling it.
King of the ES
I wonder if he'll celebrate by indulging in some Werther's Original and Metamucil washed down with some prune juice.
GradinToSmyl
Considering he has been passed in the 2 previous drafts, i'm not sure if he's 2nd round pick material. He seems to have pretty good potential though.
Phamda
I wish Canucks waited on him. Some great picks went late. Ben Thomson, Brady Vail, Matiaarcantioni all guys I would have been willing to gamble on with a 2nd rd pick
