This kid is unreal, i had a couple chances to see him play in Cranbrook, sadly he didn't score in the games I attended, but the way he looked on the ice was that of a pro. He was smart with the puck, made really good plays, and for someone who just turned 17 years old (November 6) he has shown great leadership qualities. Sam won the Rookie of the year award in the WHL in the 2011-2012 season having 62 points (28-34-62) in 67 games showing his offensive skills as a 15-16 year old. Sam started out slowly only having 6 points in 16 games, but in the month of November of 2011 he put up 4 goals 16 assists for 20 points in 11 games, and his season had a steady production of points, putting up 5 points (2-3-5) in 7 games in the month of December, 16 more points (10-6-16) in 11 games in January, 11 (6-5-11) points in February in 14 games, and in 8 games in March he put up 4 more points (2-2-4). Sam had two points (1-1-2) in four games before the Ice were elimiated from the playoffs. He finished second in scoring on the Ice roster last year behind his brother Max Reinhart. Sam finished behind three other rookies in scoring in the year, but he was also a year or two younger than the rest of them acquiring the Rookie of the year award. Sam now in the 2012-2013 season is wearing an "A", PPG on to say the least a lackluster Kootenay Ice squad, who have been struggling to string together a few wins. Sam showed great skill at the Subway Super Series WHL Vs Russia when he scored in the shootout to solidify the win for the WHL squad 1-0. Sam was one of three players that shared a '95 birth year, the other two being Curtis Lazar and Eric Comrie (who are both draft eligible in the 2013 draft.) Sam has to wait until the 2014 draft year before he is eligible, he is a highly coveted player, who is one of the players who will potentially go 1st overall in the 2014 draft. Nas19
Canada has some sick mofos coming. MacKinnon, Drouin, Monahan, Reinhart, Ekblad, McDavid, Barzal, Noel. Some of these guys coming up right now are special, special hockey players. Canada's future in hockey is looking better than ever.
Gally
I'm excited to see how he develops in the games I have seen of him he looked great. I've played against Matthew Barzal before and it wasn't very fun trying to stop him and I look forward to seeing how he translates into higher levels. Jaku
Kootenay Ice had a game VS the Seattle Thunderbirds where they were promptly beat down 7-4 Sam didn't have any points on the 4 goals the Ice scored but he was -2. To say the least it was a bad night for Sam.

There is already a thread on him but there is no way you can have a 2014 prospects discussion and leave him out. The kid is unreal!

Jaku
I don't know much about a lot of the players on the list besides Sam and Ekblad. But like Steven Stamkos' Mullet said a lot could change in a year and a half. The Ice were downed tonight (december 2nd) by the Calgary Hitmen 4-1, Sam had one assist and was even on the night.
