IIRC, captaincies help with team and player morale (lowers how much team and player morale is reduced if they lose games and v-v). Toronto loses a tough OTL in the opening game but had a very nice 6-2 bounceback win at home against Brooklyn. Lots of firsts in the regular season's opening games: Tanguay with his first goal and assist as a Leaf. Mozyakin with his first goal and assist in the NHL.
