Baggins
So here's something interesting..........who would you rather have as a goalie, Lou at a cap hit of $5.3 or Schneider at a cap hit of $5? If the Canucks had just been willing to eat a million of Luo's salary, they would have traded him to TO, Schneider would still be here, AND we would have gotten two second round draft picks. Baggins
But there is complete sense in firing Gillis over it. He traded the younger, better goalie who wanted to be here and didn't have what is now the worst contract in the NHL. In return, we are stuck with a goalie who was bad in the playoffs even when he wanted to be here, and is now sulking in Florida. If he reports and plays like trash, how bad does he have to be before the team is allowed to suspend him without pay?
King Heffy
They can't. They could send him to the farm team but would still have to pay his NHL salary.
Baggins
Even if it's reasonable to believe he isn't trying?
King Heffy
Performance doesn't matter once you're under contract. The team is still on the hook.
theminister
However, players are often suspended for incidents off the ice. Luongo playing like a turd on skates would, I assume, be as good justification. Any CBA experts in here?
CALGARY!
I think his mental state will really affect his play, Lack or whoever winds up backing him up may find themselves busier then expected. Torts will likely just piss Lou off more, although I doubt he will piss Lou off as much as AV
sam13371337
bo horvat better become a hall of famer.... because letting go of cory for this aging headcase with a never ending contract; will come back to haunt this franchise for a long time
MANGO
It's correct. Performance is not a justification to nullify a contract. He would need to be in violation of the contract; i.e.. drug suspension.

CityinFlames
I don't blame him i rather have him gone, not because I don't like him but I think it's time for a rebuild with a new GM.
sam13371337
one thing i have from this non-ending lu saga is: the only thing that could possibly be more annoying then lu's yearly meltdowns, are his little twitter fanboys
sam13371337
I've said since day one....trading Schneids will be MGs biggest mistake when all is said and done.
pimpcurtly
look at recent numbers technical abilities age contract mental strength and a true professional who absolutely wanted to be here and took a slight discount.... lu's first reaction coming here was not good, When he was wanted, he used his florida leverage to take this team to the cleaners, and now this.... absolutely cant stand this guy anymore.... Zuongo
I understand why hes frustrated, but at the end of the day he signed a contract. They def need to talk to him and see if they can clear the air.. If he decides not to play then so be it. But Gillis needs to be fired straight after... Hes such an embarrassing GM. Making the franchise look like its been run like a game of NHL. Vansicle
Dear Luongo 'Decide' to take a year off, get the Canucks 5.3 million in cap space.. re-join the team at the deadline when they have the cap space for you. Burn a year off the contract and do what's best for the team. Spend a few months in Florida with your family. Feel better, play like hell. Win a cup, play in Sochi. Thanks, Teemu. AllEyezOnMe
So we got a guy that is one of the highest paid goalies in the league, who's job is to stand between 2 pipes and save pucks every couple nights. He gets to travel back to his hometown in the summer where he enjoys himself until its back to his job(payday). Anyone who feels sympathy for luongo needs to get his head checked. You guys are treating him like he is the best goalie to ever play the game or is a legend. Luongo is only declining from here on and there is only so much he can do when he comes back. theminister
It's true that performance per se isn't enough to suspend a player, but if Luongo was literally just standing there watching goals go in, I think the team would be able to do something. It's completely uncharted territory though.
