elvis15
This picture probably wouldn't help the officer's cause: http://www.thestar.c...identified.html Sorry but I have to be skeptical... how can you shoot a kid 9 times and taser him and then feel 'devastated' that he died? Any one older than 13 should know that 9 bullets from less than 10 feet will probably kill a human being.
Red Light Racicot
Exactly. In this case they failed. Miserably.
The Brahma Bull
Yeah but my point was even if the cops had the luxury of being able to determine if you were high/insane just by looking at you, it doesn't necessarily make you any less of a threat. Lancaster
To play devil's advocate.... If that teen was high, to which he was then tasered and had a cardiac arrest and died.... I wonder how many will still be saying police brutality.

Butters Stoch
The kid was being a dumbass but the cop was an even bigger dumbass unfortunately.

Denguin
So many things.... Although these points have likely been brought up - what if he had mental illness? Someone had drugged him? There were so many people in the area (on bikes, etc.)...how about their safety with a barrage of bullets being fired? It seems to me to be excessive force. Do they not have tasers or other cannister type weapons to diffuse the situation vs the worst case scenario - killing someone? He's a kid for chrissake. I just am sick over this because, although he was armed and a threat, killing him didn't seem like the only option. He's totally outnumbered with no where to go but out of the street car...seems like they could have apprehended him vs shooting him a number of times. Electro Rock
If cops are willing to do this in front of an audience, where they can assume there's cameras present, imagine the kinds of things they do when nobody is around?

theminister
BREAKING Toronto police officer charged with murder in streetcar shooting Sammy Yatim, 18, shot dead by police in July CBC News Last Updated: Aug 19, 2013 7:36 AM PT Sammy Yatim, 18, was shot dead by police on a Toronto streetcar last month. On Monday, the officer was charged with second-degree murder. A statement issued Monday from Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says the actions of Const. James Forcillo in the downtown Toronto incident this summer justify a charge of second-degree murder. Forcillo, the officer who fired the shots, had been suspended from duty during the investigation. Yatim was on a streetcar stopped on Dundas Street West, near Bellwoods Avenue, when he was shot dead in the early minutes of July 27. Witnesses have said that Yatim was holding a knife while inside the streetcar. The shooting was recorded on video by several sources. Footage posted online has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times. The 18-year-old's death shocked many Toronto residents, and prompted a protest march days attended by hundreds of people. theminister
Soooo..... uhhhh..... yeah.......officially excessive use of force. Anyone still want to defend the officer's actions? He may not get convicted but if you wind up getting charged as a cop you screwed up. Big time.
