[OFFICIAL] Canucks Injury Thread

Hope this is the truth.....Global News Barry Deley said he has a concussion :sadno:

I would think if he had a concussion they would have said it and likely even ruled him out for the Olympics. Concussions are the one injury they don't lie about, nor should they. A brain injury is way more important than playing in the Olympics, no matter how much he wants to and hopefully everyone involved understands that.

TEAM Radio@TEAM1040

Gillis on Henrik and Olympics: Up to team doctor. If doctor says he's not fit to play, he won't play

Gillis (more on Hank Olympics): Can't answer that today. If he's not fit to play, he's not going.

Gillis on Hamhuis: He's got a soft-tissue injury that he's making progress on. Says it's not a concussion

The Hamhuis tweet was already posted, but the Henrik stuff is new. Team1040 is also reporting they've been linked to some Swedish media outlets that Henrik has already been replaced in the Olympic lineup with Backlund from Calgary.

Matthew Sekeres@mattsekeres

Swedish media reporting that #Canucks Henrik Sedin is out of the Olympics and that Mikael Backlund will be his replacement.

Dan Murphy@sportsnetmurph

#canucks Captain Henrik Sedin confirms that the Swedish reports are true. He will miss 2014 Olympics due to injury.

Just saw that Kuzma posted this today:

Ben Kuzma@benkuzma 50m

Gillis on Daniel Sedin: "I'm not going to talk about a potential injury with a player who's playing. I think Danny is pressing a lot."

Expand

It's pretty weird for Gillis to talk about "a potential injury" when replying to a question about how Daniel is playing.

Anybody have anything re: Daniel possibly nursing an injury?

It's been speculated off and on and it's going around the Twitterverse a fair amount today (some example tweets inside spoiler):

Shane M@SocialAssassin2

His answer about Daniel Sedin's slump was bizarre. Gillis almost made it sound like he is playing through an injury.

James@Canucks_news 11m

@SocialAssassin2 Danny was getting medical treatment after Boston game

SHAP DADDY@SHAP4LIFE 5m

@SocialAssassin2 he referred to team dr having to clear "them" for Olympics

Sam@sstanley84 11m

@SocialAssassin2 Didn't hear the intvw, but odd to say "not gonna talk about playing thru injury", if he wasn't specifically asked about 22.

Shane M@SocialAssassin2

@SHAP4LIFE Yea, but they asked him specifically about Daniel + Gillis said he doesn't talk abt players playing who could b hurt or some crap

Only a week ago, Dimitri Filipovic over at Canucks Army posted this:

Injury?

When a player of his stature experiences the sorts of struggles that he has, you immediately begin to wonder whether he's attempting to play through a nagging injury that's ultimately hampering his play.

I have it on pretty good authority that this is *not* the case with Daniel. He hasn't been getting any sort of treatment from the team's doctors, and by all accounts he's as healthy as you can expect a hockey player to be during the grind of an NHL season.

Generally speaking, if those guys suggest they have a good source on something, it's usually safe to assume the info is legit.

So did Danny pick-up an injury during the Boston game? Something pretty minor?

Or has he been nursing something for a while and they've been keeping it under wraps?

It's going to be interesting to see what happens with Daniel now that Henrik's officially pulled out for Sochi.

If Daniel is also injured, and the Canucks have been hiding it until now, they might need to go public about any injury to Daniel so that Team Sweden has the option to legally add a replacement player under IOC/IIHF rules (as per Elvis's post here: http://forum.canucks...0#entry11955887), if Daniel decides to also skip the Olympics.

After the Boston game, it was pretty obvious he wasn't healthy enough to play and a few more days wasn't likely to get him in good enough shape to risk playing outside of his club duties.

You switched your position pretty quickly.

Burr is hurt again.

Alex Burrows of the Vancouver Canucks is injured. Again.

The good thing for him and the Canucks is the National Hockey League is on its Olympic break, so he does have time to heel up. The injury, according to Elliott Pap of the Vancouver Sun, is a sprained hand, suffered during a scuffle with Toronto Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel last Saturday – the final game before the league shut down for Sochi.

He might as well just pack it in now for the season.
