Was hank drunk or high this morning? That was as candid as i've ever seen him in an interview ....

:ph34r::lol:

I get he wants people to chill out a bit but I also got the feeling some of that was tongue in cheek like he was thinking "it's gonna be fun when this guy hulk smashes Ferland"

Hahaha. That was awesome. "He's not going to be the next Chris Pronger". Lol. That's awesome

Pronger was the dirtiest dude of his time. Suspended 8 times for cryin out loud....

So let's hope Nik isn't anything like this:

but more of this.....

I think I would much rather Pronger dude. Aside from all that , he is one of the best d men of all time. He's way Ahead  of chara IMO.  That's just me. I not convince tryamkin will be either. Like it's been suggested , I see a edler  type guy.

Pretty stoked to see him skating with Hammer. In a earlier interview Tryamkin said he didn't care if he played left or right D, so it would be nice if we can settle him on the right side to fill the lack of depth we have there. Playing with a defensive specialist may also help smooth out some jitters defensively he could be having. It's a completely different game over here and there is no one better on the team to learn from then Hammer.

Also could set the foundations for a possible Pedan/Tryamkin pairing in the future, which is terrifying and exciting.

As for the Sedin comments, I took those as not only jest, but as a message to fans and media. He's not going to start immediately gushing over the kid and hailing him as our savior... We got that covered already. He's setting the bar at a realistic level, it will likely be very tough for him to adjust his game to North American style and to be up against the best hockey players in the world. He will likely have some serious... Growing pains... Heh.

The reason I'm leaning Hank's comments toward playful banter and not a curt comment is the Pronger joke at the end. Chara is the obvious comparison that has been used regularly,  so throwing a curve ball like that shows humour. Least, that's how I interpreted the interview.

Yep I think so too. Chara is a good hockey player but it was his size that made him so good. Our boy NT will be better!

Oh and just to clarify. Longer muscles have more strength because hey have more fibers then a shorter muscle. If you have a longer bulky muscle it will be exponentially stronger then the shorter muscle. You would have to have a short muscle with like 5 to 10 times the bulk to start to compare to a lager long muscle. But the long muscle always has improved strength because muscles are not designed to be shaped like basket balls. The linear shape of the muscle is the force multiplier. Not the bulk.

Two muscles being equal in length and shape. The larger/bulkier muscle will have greater strength. The protein muscle fiber size does play a role but not nearly as much as you would think. AKA diet and training program. The one variable that people leave out is the Adrenal Hormones that have significant effect to the strength that an individual displays.

Its the very reason why your leg muscles are the strongest in your body = Because they are the longest in your body! Well even that's not quite true. The strongest muscles in your body are the Erector Spinae muscles. Why? Because they are the longest in the human body and have the ability if they spasm hard enough to snap the human spine in half!

Anyways back to the argument: Is Zdeno Chara a superior athlete to Nikita Tryamkin? NO They are the same size. Nikita Tryamkin as advantage over Zdeno Chara for the simple fact that he is younger and has bulkier muscle groups then Chara.

Fact. Chara has a flat chest and in his photo shoot pic he is basically showing off his ripped abbs which are only visible because of his lack of body mass/FAT. Tryamkin has the same muscle groups and quite possibly in better shape because he has more body mass to move with them on a daily basis. The only reason you don't see Tryamkin with ripped abbs like that is because he didn't spend 48 hours dehydrating himself with salt.

What is abundantly clear is that Tryamkin has superior upper body size and therefore superior strength over Chara. That my uneducated friend is a fact!

Strength also comes from each individual athleticism plus the heart & determination.

Never have I ever seen the Biggest Longest person win every physical sporting test.???

eg. Gretzky, Bure, Ronning, Gallagher, Messi, Maradona, F. Edgar, GSP, K. Puckett, Apolo Ohno, Ben Hogan, Y. Berra, Emmet Smith, H. Richard, B. Sanders, Pele, Meisha Tate, B Orr, M. Hamm, Tyson, Fedor Emilianenko etc. etc. etc...

Yeah. They were both great d men , but Pronger was by far the best shutdown d man of his era, unpredictable and mean. Played almost 30 minutes a night and controlled the pace throughout. Guy was a dink , but an absolute beast.

There's a difference between being mean , and being DIRTY.

Pronger makes Gordie Howe look like a cherub.

Remember the last really "big mean d man" we had?

Andrew Alberts. 6'5 220 lbs

Everyone was hoping he'd come here and keep the house clean... but every time he touched a guy he was in the sin bin

Seems to happen whenever we get a player like that. The refs just flock to them like a fly to $#@.... so he toned his game back and wasn't nearly effective afterwards, then to top it all off, he gets boarded from behind by Malkin (no penalty of course) gets a concussion, and never plays again.

Welcome to Vancouver! /sarcasm
