Benning thinks 2016 draft is deeper

I've had an extra eye on D-man Jake Bean (Calgary Hitmen) while I've been watching Virtanen.

Not a big guy (6'0/175lbs) but he has great hockey sense and is very good on the PP. He's obviously not as highly-touted as the Chychruns, Days, Matthews, and even Bensons of the world, but he is a puck-moving PP specialist with tremendous hockey sense.

I agree, been keeping a tab on him aswell. Like the way he plays in both zones, Obviously strength and positioning away from the puck can be improved upon but I really like his game. Like you said PP specialist definitely comes to mind

People seem to question, the move, Its not like we gave up our 1st or anything, It seems to me the point Benning wanted to make was that this draft is deeper in the 1st round then previous drafts, but after the first round Benning feels there is a significant drop off in talent and types of players hes looking for.

We have a decent prospect pool going forward as is, though one more good defenceman wouldnt hurt.

We will get a good prospect for with our 1st this year and maybe we try to snag a couple more picks next year.

There are lots of players right now in the system, prospects, vets and rookies. Benning is thinking big picture, he is building the now while looking for tomorow. I bet he has a sheet on his wall theat says Vancouver projected line up 2018.

I trust the moves Benning makes, after Mike Gillis im just glad we have an actual hockey mind who has been doing this a heck of a lot longer than any of us. :] Go Canucks Go!!!

We still have the draft to get more picks. We will have to move a goalie and possibly a forward or two to move.

2015 has such high end talent in the top 5, but who knows where the drop off is. Benning probably sees 2nd round picks next year being better than the ones available this year

Every comment Benning makes gives me less and less confidence in him.

I have a feeling this guys media persona doesn't reflect what kind of business man he is. He seems a lot more transparent and well respected than Mike Gillis was. I don't recall them showing footage of any other GM conducting business.

...and Gillis's repetitive robot responses, with "it's a process this" and "it's a process that".

I thought Benning was actually giving some generous incite into what they've been trying to do. You can tell he dislikes doing interviews, as I would too.

He also seems to be improving things around there, so what more do you want really.

That is questionable

Anyone else suspect that Benning has several walls at home dedicated to tracking prospects for upcoming drafts?

He probably just uses the entire basement of Rogers Arena for every AHL, ECHL, WHL, OHL, QMJHL, USHL, SHL, Liiga, DEL, KHL, Extraliiga, National League, and some Israeli league we don't even know about

Austin Matthews is going to be a friggin stud, arguably could be in the top 3 in this years draft. At 17 6.2 200lbs and was one of the best players on the US squad at the WJC, took a lot of the critical faceoffs against the Russians in the knockout game. Has number 1 center written all over him.

You don't like the GM or the coach, don't like the captain, don't like the goalie.

Must be missing many other things you don't like about the team.

If this team that has Henrik at near a PPG pace without a PP is not to your liking or the fact that the team is in a position to compete in the post season is not to your liking or the fact that this team that has undergone major injuries to the d corps but still has 12 more wins than losses is not to your liking..... just what do you still hate?

You're not very happy considering what Benning was dealt with last May.

What the hell are you talking about? I don't like the captain? Another nonsense post.
