They'd make a great second line behind our superstar first of Daniel Henrik burrows Burrows (the Refs Pet) is washed up. Go see how many goals he has scored in the last 3 years. one night Posted July 13, 2015 Share Posted July 13, 2015 You're not going to have a team full of drafted players, so at some point you have to fill the holes through free agency. Our biggest holes are on D, and I don't think any amount of drafting will allow us to catch up to the lack of D depth based on this teams timeline for rebuilding. Therefore a couple big ticket players on D might be in the cards. As I said, it's not taking away spots from young players. It's all about having the young players push from below. When Horvat shows he can replace Bonino on the second line, he'll move up. When McCann and Cassels show they can be third or fourth line centers, they'll be in the lineup. It's all about keeping the roster flexible, which is why we'll likely sign some vets to shorter term deals. Don't be surprised if we sign some 25-26 year olds to fill in the gap between the Sedins and guys like Horvat and Virtanen though. It's all about the succession plan, and not forcing guys into roles before they're ready. Canucks will not be singing any big $ UFA's, why do you assume we would be on defence when we are in a rebuilding mode and we need to give our young players a chance to play. Sedin Sedin 8 mil Baertschi Bonino 6 mil Kenins Horvat Hansen Prust 2 mil Dorsett 750k 7.5 mil 5 mil Edler Tanev Sbisa 1.2 mil 800k 900k Miller Markstrom Just an example of how we could spend. Fill in whatever names you want, there's definitely room to beef up our roster after this season. As long as the signings are short term for vets, or long term for 25-26 year olds, I think we're good. It'll give the Sedins one last chance for a run in the playoffs. Then with a high pick this year, we can continue to build for the future and insert young guys like Virtanen, Boeser, McCann, Shinkaruk and Cassels as they become ready. Considering what you have figured out, it would have to be about $75 mil. ya he's overreaching a bit. vrbata at 5m is a great contract and will get us a good 2nd at least at the deadline. the cap number is set at 71.4m, so proven players on contracts like his are worth lots with us retaining if necessary, its only this year, to move up in the draft... all good. so pretending virtanen takes the spot on the 2nd line, at only 950k or whatever, that'd give you 8m for what on the top line... too silly. if the cap is that high this coming offseason, with our expired and traded contracts, we could potentially snag a stamkos or voracek or some other stud goin' for their parise-pay-day... or 12.5 at a discount for stammer. Benning said himself they wil be freeing up cap space to be able to potentially spend big next summer. Our young players will get a chance. Right now we don't hav any on d that will be able to step into the top 4 anytime soon, so look for us to spend some money on D, or trade for a big ticket d-man.
