Aside from a scenario where @Ty Webb is disqualified for giving his team performance enhancing drugs, it seems like the Red Wings season is coming to a close. It's been a giant step for the organization, being in contention for the league's #1 seed all season, and finally getting the taste of some playoff action. There were many lessons that were learned in these past 10 days, and using this information is what is going to keep up competitive moving forward (especially in the Beast that is the East). Tip of the old ball cap to Ty for building such a strong team and having a little fun in the thread with the GIFs and memes. Wish you all the best moving forward.

With all that being said, the Red Wings are open for business for the offseason. There is some tinkering that will occur, so teams interested in players should get in touch. There probably won't be a scenario where one of the Red Wing's young roster players are moved out, but depending on what the deal looks like, never say never.

With some time to now have evaluated the roster, The Islanders will be looking to go through a year or retooling. We won't be calling it a rebuild as we feel that we have a team that could potentially contend for a wild card spot at the very least! We love the youth on this squad, and it goes without saying that we will be looking to only get younger! As it stands this is what we forsee our lineup looking like, going in to next season

92 Evgeni Kuznetsov - 19 Ryan Johansen - 16 Mitch Marner

71 Nick Foligno - 37 Patrice Bergeron - Alex Tuch

20 Nick Ritchie - 39 Adrian Kempe -  38 Ryan Hartman

18 Jake Virtanen - 21 Logan Brown - 13 Kyle Clifford

91 Vladislav Kamenev

20 Ryan Suter - 27 Dougie Hamilton

5 Jakob Chychrun - 9 Dmitry Orlov

49 Samuel Girard - 6 Travis Sanheim

40 Tuukka Rask

30 Alex Stalock

We will likely be letting Jannik Hansen, Jason Garrison, Torrey Mitchell as some notables test FA this summer. We feel we have some solid players who can step up and fill those spots. We feel even on paper that this team is good enough to contend for at least a playoff spot. Some players above are also in bold. These players we feel are our best and most prized tradeable assets. We won't trade them all, heck maybe none of them... but we will explore and listen as we feel some of these guys can net us a very nice return. Again, this is only a retool. We feel we have what it takes and hope to build this young, up and coming team in to the contender it can be!

State of the Franchise

Despite missing the playoffs and finishing near the basement in the East this year, the Habs feel that they're well positioned to begin the climb to the top of the standings due to the youth and depth acquired over the years. The team played very well down the stretch, which is good as almost the entire team is expected to return. With Clayton Stoner and Zach Redmond expected to go to free agency, the only other UFA on the books is Matt Duchene and talks have already begun in that regard. And with Max DomiBrett Pesce, Matt Nieto and JT Compher as the RFA's of note, they can expect to be qualified with conversations for longer term deals to begin in the near future.

With the 11 forwards, 5 defenders and King Henrik in net, the bulk of the lineup is expected to be set (unless some trade opportunities arise), but there is a long line of youngsters who are poised and ready to step in and claim some spots. Expect the team to sit on the sidelines during free agency, perhaps looking for some depth players and youth instead of seeking out the high-priced talent. The team expects to be near the cap once raises are accounted for anyways.

Taylor Hall - Matt Duchene (UFA) - Jordan Eberle

Alex Galchenyuk - Nolan Patrick - Max Domi (RFA)

Richard Panik - Ryan Strome - Matt Nieto (RFA)

Carl Soderberg - JT Compher (RFA)

Shea Theodore - Brett Pesce (RFA)

Thomas Hickey - Erik Johnson

Jake Dotchin

Henrik Lundqvist

On the Bubble:

Forwards: Maxim Mamin, Evgeny Svechnikov, Sammy Blais, Aleksi Saarela, German Rubtsov, Alex Formenton, Boo Nieves

Defense: Tony DeAngelo, Noah Juulsen, Sebastion Aho, Steve Santini

Goalie: Ville Husso

2018 Draft Picks: MTL 1st*, VAN 1st, MTL 2nd**, CGY 2nd, WPG 3rd**, ARI 4th

(Conditions: *MTL 1st goes to PIT if James Neal does NOT re-sign in PIT before draft, though it is lottery protected, **ARI receives MTL 2nd if Matt Duchene re-signs in MTL, if not than ARI receives WPG 3rd)

The only players who would be close to considered untouchable are the 4 names in bold above, but then again everybody has a price. Feel free to inquire within about certain players and their availability if you wish. It'll be tough to move any picks until the conditions have been determined ahead of the draft, but the "worst case" scenario, picks related, would be the Habs still having a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

A Long Road Ahead

What to say of our inaugural season. Surprising first 3/4, followed by a spectacularly awful last 2 months.

It became clear at the beginning of the season that, while we started off strong, that following seasons would not be as bright. This is going to be a long, long rebuild. Going into next year, these are our only players expected to be in the lineup:

Alex Killorn - Jason Spezza - Evgeny Dadonov

Micheal Ferland - Vlad Sobotka - Tomas Tatar

William Carrier - Mike Amadio - Spencer Foo

Gemel Smith

Mattias Ekholm - Nikita Zadorov

Jake McCabe - Dan Hamhuis

Oscar Fantenberg - Rasmus Andersson

Stolarz

Pickard

Painful. Really, really painful. Some of these guys: Carrier, Amadio, Smith, Foo, Andersson, and Fantenberg are not guaranteed NHL players. If they do make it, they are bubble players, not guys to rely on chipping in a lot of points.

Vegas Draft Picks:

2018: LVG 1st, PIT 1st, LVG 2nd, LAK 2nd, LVG 3rd, CAR 3rd, NJ 3rd, LVG 4th

While I have tons of holes to fill, notably in every position, I will not be trading away any prospects in order to speed up a rebuild. The above bolded players are unlikely to be dealt, but will consider all offers.

Best Prospects:

- Timothy Liljegren

- Ilya Sorokin

- Adin Hill

- Cal Foote

- Josh Mahura

- Evan Fitzpatrick

- Mathieu Joseph

We're quite pleased with progress made by some of our early arriving young guns and with our prospects progress in their respective developmental programs. At this point we won't be posting a full roster yet with so many positions up for grabs and youth (hopefully) pushing for spots next year.

We're happy to let that process continue, including a REALLY big draft coming up for us this summer and let our prospects fill holes as they open and earn those spots. Perhaps supplemented with a couple UFA's (and/or trades) should we find good fits.

With that said, we're also hoping to push forward next year and wouldn't be opposed to moving some of our youth and/or later picks for early 20's players should there be a fit with other clubs. So feel free to kick some tires if that suits your club's needs. (Perhaps you're a team with excess, ready youth that requires waivers and a lack of space for them? Perhaps you're an older team teetering on a rebuild with a couple of young guys who's prime would be 'wasted' during a rebuild?)

As of now, our two lotto picks are not for sale (at least not for anything reasonable) but that could change after the lottery (or after an insane offer ).

Partial forward roster thus far:

Barzal, Monahan, Nyquist

Granlund (RFA), Helm, Pominville

____, ____, ____

____, Dowd, Bailey

____

Bubble/questionable prospect forwards:

Nichushkin(RFA), Pulkkinen, Gaudette, Necas, Frost, Forsbacka-Karlsson, Senyshyn, Dahlen, Harkins, Bittner, Gregor etc

Defense roster thus far:

Bowey, Demers

____, McQuaid

____, Schenn

Witkowski(RFA)

Bubble/questionable prospect D:

Fabbro, Day, Capobianco, Pokka, Morin, Zboril etc

We're also going to attempt re-sign our pending UFA Connauton this summer as well.

EXTENSION: The Montreal Canadiens have re-signed forward Matt Duchene to a six year extension.

mon.png Matt Duchene: 6 years, $ 42.0 million dollar contract ( $ 7,000,000.00 per season ).

We're absolutely thrilled to lock up Matt for the next six years, and we fully expect him to be our top-line center with Taylor Hall on his wing for the coming season and hopefully for the long term. When his availability came up, we saw an opportunity to strike and bring him in for a test-run and we are glad that he liked it enough in Montreal to decide to stick around.
