Popular Post Kurisu
Absolute blinder of a regular season for Tampa Bay! Depth was the key this year, as we had 11 players eclipse 40 points this season, including 7 players with 20 goals or more. No player on the team finished with a negative +/- rating. Mid-season acquisition Evgeni Nabokov was fantastic down the stretch, posting 5 shutouts and boosting his save percentage by a full 0.10 points after the trade. Our other 2 big acquisitions, Mark Bell and David Vyborny, contributed to the secondary scoring and will be relied up to continue that! We look forward to playing the New Jersey Devils in round 1 of the playoffs! Team Awards: Leading Scorer: Steve Sullivan (38 G, 40 A, 78 P) Key Stats: 30 PPp, 278 SOG, 13.2 Sh% Steve flourished as a top line winger here in Tampa, leading the team in goals and points! He formed a dynamic duo with Pavol Demitra on the top line and set new career highs in goals and points. 30 of his points arrived on the power-play, helping us to a 25.1% efficiency rating in that department. Runner-up: Pavol Demitra (26 G, 49 A, 75 P) Team MVP: Pavol Demitra (26 G, 49 A, 75 P) Key stats: 29 PPp, +24, 10 PIM, 0.48 FO% New acquisition Pavol Demitra put the team on his back after being moved to 1C ahead of Saku Koivu early in the season. Despite a revolving door of linemates, Demitra consistently produced all season. Pavol will hopefully be in contention for the Lady Byng trophy this year! We will be hoping to re-sign Pavol this summer! Runner-up: Steve Sullivan (38 G, 40 A, 78 P) Best Defenceman: Dan Boyle (12 G, 42 A, 54 P) Key stats: 38 PPp, +24, 26:47 ATOI, 169 HT, 169 SB Our team captain and one of 2 remaining members from our 2004 Stanley Cup victory (Cory Sarich being the other)! Dan played all season on the top pairing with Dan Hamhuis and did a phenomenal job against opposing top units. He led the team in powerplay points with 38, running the top unit with Mark Streit. Dan will be hoping for another run to the finals, and hopes to win another cup in honour of his fallen comrade Nikolai Khabibulin! Runner-up: Mark Streit (6 G, 54 A, 60 P) Unsung Hero: Ryan Craig (11 G, 12 A, 23 P) Key stats: +5, 11:05 TOI, 157 HT, 31 PIM After a torrid last season, fan favourite Ryan Craig cemented his place on the team this year. Starting the season as a healthy scratch, Craig was asked to provide a spark and never looked back, scoring a hat-trick in his season debut and playing the remaining 73 games. He formed an industrious 4th line with Scott Nichol and Mike Johnson, and we hope to re-sign all 3 players! Runner-up: Cory Sarich (+8, 134 HT, 171 SB, 16:17 ATOI) Edited April 11, 2020 by Kurisu 2 1 1

Patrick Kane
Tried to push the Hawks early, but clearly too young and not ready for any sustained success. Looking forward to the development of Kane, Keith, Seabrook, Byfuglien, Crawford and hopefully see Jonathan Toews up next year.

dough teeth
Amazing, the Avalanche actually made it to the post season. Colorado really is the definition of average. Average forwards, average defense. Average goaltending. Just lucky to have had a relatively easy schedule playing rebuilding teams and getting wins there. Not expecting too much in the playoffs. Will be lucky if we don't get swept. Predicting Preds in 6

Popular Post Time Lord
Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Preview #1 Pittsburgh Penguins vs #8 Carolina Hurricanes: This should be an exciting, high-scoring series, as both teams are top 4 in the league in goals for and have the 2 best powerplays in the league! The Penguins are favoured to win due to the defensive deficiencies of the Hurricanes, who conceded the most goals of all the playoff teams. The main difference is the goaltending - Fleury has been very good while Ward has had a rough season. The offensive threat of Art Ross winner Martin Havlat along with Sidney Crosby may be too much for the Hurricanes to overcome, although they have offensive threats of their own, with Marian Hossa and Evgeni Malkin being up there in the scoring race and the 2nd line producing well. The Hurricanes also come into the playoffs on a roll, after being in danger of missing the playoffs not too long ago. Look for them to outscore their problems a few times this series, maybe even 4 times! Prediction: Pittsburgh wins the series in 7 games #2 Buffalo Sabres vs #7 New York Rangers: This is a showdown between 2 solid defensive teams. The Rangers are backstopped by the best goalie in the league this season, Henrik Lundqvist (1.92 GAA, .931 save %!), with Ryan Miller of the Sabres not too far behind. The Rangers also have the best penalty kill in the league, so goals may be hard to come by for the Sabres. However, the Sabres have one of the best 1st lines with Jason Pominville, Chris Drury, and Thomas Vanek all putting up 90+ points to find themselves in the top 14 in scoring, a scoring threat that the Rangers do not even come close to matching. The Sabres have more offense from the blueline as well, with three 40+ point defensemen as opposed to just one on the Rangers. Let's see if Lundqvist can stand on his head and close the gap between these teams. Prediction: Buffalo wins the series in 6 games #3 Washington Capitals vs #6 Boston Bruins: Only 3 points separated these teams in the regular season. The Capitals' top 3 scorers Alex Ovechkin, Alex Semin, and Nicklas Backstrom have 91+ points each, and the team has plenty of secondary scoring as well. The Bruins also have good secondary scoring but lack the dominant primary scoring of the Capitals. They do have a few players who seem likely to thrive in the playoffs, as well as a goaltending advantage with Tim Thomas in net. It's interesting that Boston dominated the season series, going 3-0-1 and outscoring Washington 16-9 in those games. Does this mean anything come playoff time? Will the youth of the Capitals' stars work against them since they're kind of new to this playoff thing? I think it might. Prediction: Boston wins the series in 7 games #4 New Jersey Devils vs #5 Tampa Bay Lightning: Although the Devils finished higher in the standings, the Lightning made moves to improve their roster at the deadline, suggesting that their place in the standings may not be a good indicator of their skill level. Both teams have similar top lines and solid, well-rounded defense cores, but the Lightning have 8 forwards with 50+ points while the Devils only have 4. The Devils were the best defensive team in the league this season with only 183 goals against, largely thanks to Martin Brodeur who posted a .927 save percentage and a 2.02 GAA - a much better season than Evgeni Nabokov's. However, Nabokov improved significantly after being traded to the Lightning, going 17-6 with a .924 save percentage and a 2.01 GAA. If he can keep this up, the Lightning are the better team. Prediction: Tampa Bay wins the series in 6 games Edited April 11, 2020 by Time Lord 5
Monty
Year End Roundup Toronto sucked. As expected. There were positives, though. Alex Ponikarovsky: 61 points Matt Stajan: 58 points David Perron: 53 points Bryan McCabe also had 39 points, which was a big increase over last season. With a better club, he’d produce a lot more. The biggest area of improvement is, I don’t know, everything? Huge prospect pool, with a number of standouts in production, the two with the highest production and NHL ready already are Nik Kulemin (still signed overseas) and Anton Stralman. Hoping to see both on the club next season. Lots of picks in the draft. Need to come out with one high end prospect.
