I hope Motte is on the roster come opening night...aside from Demko he was one of the brightest lights against Vegas, and all playoffs really - a take away monster and also got his opportunities even though he was almost exclusively used in the defensive zone.   Was actually hoping for a promotion...should be interesting to see how things shake out the first couple of games.

I don't think they hang the two rookies out to dry in the 3rd pairing (Juolevi-Rathbone), I have doubts that Jack makes the team out of camp. As for Hoglander, he's making it difficult for the coaching staff by the sounds of it, maybe a little surprised he's showing so well for a smallish 20-year old Euro. I think some might've also been concerned about Petey's small frame when he arrived too. Hogz is going to be fun to watch and I think he makes the team.

I generally agree, but would switch Motte and Roussel.  I think Motte has more offence to give and would balance that line nicely.  I thought he was spectacular in the playoffs.

That's fair. But I think Green will try to put atleast 1 veteran on a line with Jake and Gauds. Rooster also shown good chemistry with Gaudette last season from time to time, that's why I have him at the 3LW spot. I could see Motte move up the line up as the season progresses. I could also see Virtanen be rotated in all 4 lines as a RW throughout the season. Really hoping for a big year from Jake, Gauds and Hoglander to give this team the depth scoring we need to success.

I Believe there is a way, but we will have to cut both gaudette and hoglander to fit him in, and we will lose 200k of cap space.

the only way we can fit motte opening night roster is if we have Hamoni sign for 1.5m or less.

none of you actually read any of my thread eh? ok.

all of your suggestions are impossible.

what many people tend to forget is that LTIR is a really bad thing, it sucks we are in this position. If we dont start our rookies on opening roster we lose out two fold. we have to pay extra cap to bring them up.

Another thing many armchair GM's forget is we lose 1.7m in cap for last year's performance bonus overages. With playing rathbone for 1 game and then paper him down we effectively gain .850m in cap space. if this kid gets injured before opening night we are in big trouble.

after opening night roster we will gain 5.3 million in cap space so we will be in much better shape.

The only 2 options is determined by if Hamonic signs for around 1.0-1.2 million

yikes, foot in mouth, we wont have any cap issues

That’s quite possible.   We won’t know until game night - but I have a hard time thinking TG and JB would sacrifice Motte to make the Hamonic deal possible, and would be a little shocked if he wasn’t in the opening lineup.

I like Motte.  Aside from the core and Myers, he was the only player that surpassed and surprised me last playoffs.   First in takeaways (in the entire playoffs until we lost) a monster motor that never quits...JV gets all the rope in the world compared to him, he’s had to scratch and claw for everything he’s done in hockey so far.   His hand to eye is elite - he matched Stone  play for play knocking pucks out of thin air and getting on with it.    Feel he’s got untapped Burrowesque potential and hope the team gives him a better job to prove I’m right.

Also OP (Petty Boi),  adding Hamonic I think is going to be in the 900k-1.2 .... JB has shown that he will do the job he has to fill the cap as far as he can take it pretty much every year... Wilson said it best when he signed EK “if you don’t have cap issues you aren’t trying hard enough in this league” or something to the sort - as a GM.    JB has his work cut out for him for sure.

That’s what I think the lines will look like on opening night.

A couple of minor points of contention:

1) I have high hopes for Gaudette but am not confident that he’ll be able to do much with that line.  Would love to be proven wrong.  I think Sutter is a better fit there and is a much better center than Gaudette when healthy.  Sutter is also useless as a winger and so putting him on that 4th line spot does nothing for us in my opinion.   I’d much rather see Sutter be the 3rd line center, and him being used as part of a load management strategy (ie Sutter plays 50 percent of the games while Gaudette plays the other 50).

2) With Sutter and Gaudette rotating in and out under my first scenario, I’d much rather see Zack MacEwen be the teams’ 4th line RW.  I like MacEwen’s size and willingness to stand up for teammates.  MacEwen also has some scoring potential from what I see.

3) I love Hoglander but am still not sold on his defensive game.  Would love to be proven wrong here but I’m not sure if Hoglander is quite ready to be on the 2nd line.    People might hate me for saying this, but I think Eriksson still might be the best option here.   Eriksson is a black hole offensively, but that entire Pearson-Horvat-Eriksson line was a major bright spot for us last year in terms of taking on the toughest match ups.
