This was no small feat and we still have a lot of work to do. We struck out on most deadline deals and were not able to make others get off the ground, but we are ecstatic for what the future brings to Tampa. With nearly $26M in cap space to work with over the off season, as well as 7 picks in the upcoming draft, including 2 1sts, we hope that the future will only get brighter. This is only year 1 of what will likely be a 3 year plan, but we always hope we can get ahead of that curve. From bare cupboards to stocked cupboards, below is the following changes (Asides from FA signings) that we have brought in or shipped out IN Quinton Byfield, Matt Murray, Colin White, Drew Commesso, Prokhor Poltapov, Simon Robertsson, 2023 Maple Leafs 1st Round Pick, Conor Dewar, Fabian Zetterlund, Nick Suzuki, Noel Gunler, Shane Pinto, Joel Kiviranta, Hugo Alnefelt, Martin Jones, Connor Ingram, Ivan Chekhovich, Sabres 2023 1st Round Pick, Simon Edvinsson, Matt Roy, Filip Berglund, Nikolai Knyzhov, Canucks 2022 1st Round Pick, Dominik Kubalik, Brendan Brisson, Connor Zary, Jake Wise, Sabres 2022 3rd Round Pick, Lawson Crouse, Martin Chromiak, Egor Afanasyev, Tyson Jost, Roni Hirvonen, Jay O'Brien, 2022 Capitals 2nd Round Pick OUT Connor McDavid, Jonathan Quick, Eetu Luotsarainen, Alexis Lafreniere, Barclay Goodrow, Carey Price, Roman Josi, Jaccob Slavin, Nicolas Deslauriers, Philip Danault, Arturri Lekhonen, Bryan Rust, Derrick Brassard, 2022 Tampa Bay 4th Round Pick Some big names moved out, but some future what we hope are star players for the long term brought in! Again very excited and thanks to all who we got the chance to chat and neotiate with Edited March 30, 2022 by Tylez 2 2
da.moose
It was the most quiet Trade Deadline in years for the Washington Capitals but we are not disappointed. We looked into a few different possibilities but decided that compromising our future at this point was unwise and that we would rather see how our current group performs while continuing to build for the future. Earlier in the season an NTC nixed a trade to bring in Sergei Bobrovsky who ended up going to CBJ. With Rush and Mike each likely having two starters in the playoffs this season we decided that saving our assets and taking a season to let our system breathe after going all in for so many consecutive seasons would be a good option for our franchise. We did lock up Evgeny Kuznetsov to a 5 year contract extension which we are extremely excited about and we believe that keeping our current group together will give us plenty of opportunities to buy more heavily over the next few seasons. We also do think we have a strong roster that could surprise if all does go right in the first round of the playoffs. Capitals Post Trade Deadline Lineup: Patrik Laine - Mark Scheifele - William Nylander Alex Killorn - Evgeny Kuznetsov - Carter Verhaeghe Andrew Copp - Frederick Gaudreau - Mathieu Joseph Ryan Lomberg - Pierre Engvall - Wayne Simmonds Devon Toews - John Klingberg Brian Dumoulin - Justin Holl Travis Dermott - Radko Gudas Philip Grubauer Karel Vejmelka Extras: Nic Dowd (inj), Zack Kassian, Andrej Sekera Injured Reserve: Ryan Ellis, Kris Russell Dover Dobermans Lineup: Dylan Sikura - Arttu Ruotsalainen - Garrett Pilon Josh Ho-Sang - Tanner Laczynski - Alex Limoges Simon Ryfors - Otto Somppi - Kristian Vesalainen Hunter Drew - Andreas Wingerli - Buddy Robinson Sami Niku - Mark Friedman Ryan Shea - Chase Priskie Tim Berni - Tyler Tucker Mikhail Berdin Josef Korenar Extras: Pontus Holmberg, Mathieu Olivier, Kim Nousiainen 1

I genuinely wasn't trying to stir the pot with my comments. All I am saying is that I think Bobrovsky, Vanacek, Andersen, and Swayman are all likely to start for their teams in round one of the playoffs in my opinion, so I felt that it might not be in my best interest to go all in this season. Fair enough. A lot of teams opted for ‘all-in’, so a totally valid strategy. I’m on that same train.

It looks like Swayman has a better shot than Ullmark to start this Playoffs season if you don't count tonight's game vs the Leafs lol. My goaltending situation got messed up by Rask and the Bruins and I sought an NHL playoff netminder in Elliott, whom I tried to trade with no takers. Swayman was not eligible to be a callup with Rask in beantown this season. Now that that scenario dissolved Swayman is back in the big leagues

Naw im just kidding. Imma be good If you can fit it under the cap I dont see any issue with it. Atleast as a mid season trade for a playoff push, or a guy that isnt a for sure locked up started for the next 5+ years. Just me 2 cents

da.moose
In my opinion neither Vanacek or Swayman had real negotiating power nor are either of them clear cut starters. I also think teams should be rewarded for finding players before they earn bigger roles and even if players demand trades I think only players that are not under contract or incredibly unique circumstances should lead to a player refusing to play. I personally think it wouldn't have been fair to single out Mike or Rush to enforce any rules on them pre deadline. I just can't imagine why a veteran player like Bobrovsky would waive his NTC to play for the @Rush17 circus in Columbus when they could have played for Washington but that is a completely different topic and obviously I have a bias opinion. 1 2
