A too many men penalty, defensive breakdowns, and letting Pearson shoot in the SO instead of Hoglander is good?

Oh come on. The team played well yesterday. They got a point. Could have gone either way. Stop being so negative all the time.

Overall the effort was good, but too many men penalties are the coach's responsibility and have been an ongoing issue.  I also believe in rewarding talented guys who play well for the shootout.

The pp needs to move the puck much quicker.  They scored immediately after they started doing so.

Things happen and the player jumping on the ice also needs to count, I’m not sure how things are run but the coach could have said, “ur up next on the ice” and not “you’re good to go now”.

Shootouts should never be based on a reward system. Should go to the best skilled guy that has demonstrated success in that aspect of the game.

I agree the power play needs some work.

Last nights game was like a playoff game. Very tightly checked and careful by both teams. It was entertaining and the Canucks looked good in all 3 periods. Let’s be proud of the team and the coach.

Looking back it feels like a planned process.

1st year was about going all in to try to give the Sedins one last shot at the cup. And if I’m being honest whatever we had to give up to do that was worth it for two of the best NHL players ever to get another crack. They deserve the Stanley Cup. They’ve given so much to us as Canucks fans it felt right to do so for them.

Next 2-3 years we had no prospects and no set roster, trading and inserting placeholders in and out of the lineup. Whoever we could get to sign with us regardless of NHL ability. It wasn’t so much a team, but a mishmash of AHL’ers and vets.

Then things start to change.

The last 2-3 years our draft picks are starting to enter the NHL and regulars are starting to solidify their spot. We start having assets we can trade for upgrades in positional needs that other teams actually want. Holes start to get plugged and the Canucks continue improving.

Rebuilds take a minimum of 5 years to do, so if you take out the Sedins last shot year and the COVID all hell breaks loose year you get about 6 years to build this core. It’s really not that bad of a job done overall. JB like all GM’s has made mistakes, but none have irreparably harmed our team.

These next few years are the really fun ones for us fans. It’s when a rebuilt core starts to gel and compete hard in the regular season and playoffs. We have a great goalie and capable backup, a complete top 6, a good/decent bottom 6 and a good top 4 D. As long as we stay healthy we’re going to be a team to watch every season for a potential run at lord Stanley.

We’re right there now with the talent on our roster, just need to have some years playing together to build chemistry between the lines to really threaten for the finals and the ultimate end goal of winning a cup.

This is also assuming that Benning can resign players like Horvat and Miller when they eventually need new contracts right?

You think Bo will remain a Canuck?

I suspect that out of the two, Miller is the one that we may trade away for, either for a promising prospect on the way up, or draft picks/roster players. He's not that old when he becomes a UFA. 29/30 years old?

There's always going to be some form of defensive breakdowns for every single team. Nobody plays a perfect game. Ever. It's how the team rebounds from a defensive lapse that is the key. If they roll over and die, well yeah, then we have some concerns and worries about the lack of push back and compete. But this team doesn't seem to do that. You have players here who want to win so badly - Horvat, Pettersson, Miller, Garland, etc.

- Too many men penalties need to be reigned in.

- Defensive breakdowns were not that much, considering we had 2 of the 3 best players in the world, facing us on one line

- Pearson has a really good, accurate, deceptively hard shot. They do regular work on shootout, the guys who are strong in game, are not always the best at shootout. It's kind of like the free throw line in basketball. You put Shaq at the free through and he had trouble performing.
